18. Jyeshta Nakshatra

The Heart of the Scorpion

16º40’ Scorpio — º 00’ Sagittarius
Alpha Scorpionis (Antares) & Sigma Scorpionis &
Tau Scorpionis

“[They] are as a rule the legendary heroes of mankind, the very ones who are looked up to, loved, and worshipped, the true sons of God whose names perish not. … Their greatness has never lain in their abject submission to convention, but, on the contrary, in their deliverance from convention. They towered up like mountain peaks above the mass that still clung to its collective fears, its beliefs, laws, and systems, and boldly chose their own way.”  — Carl Jung

Ruled by Mercury.

Dhumavati has many similarities with Alakshmi

Main deity is Indra: the Hero & Dragon Slayer, the King of the Gods and the Indriyas (the senses).

Jyeshta means the Eldest, the Senior-Most, the Big Sister/Big Brother, Lakshmi’s shadow, Alakshmi, (Sometimes Kali or Dhumavati)

Gives the power to churn things up & churn them out; to gain courage in battle and conquer any enemy. The Churning of the Ocean of Milk.

The Ouroboros (snake eating its own tail), the coiled snake, a round earring, an umbrella, and a protective amulet are significant myths and symbols.

The western deities related with Jyeshta are Moirai, the Goddess of Fate. Fate was also represented as a trinity of “the Fates”: 1. Clotho (the spinner), 2. Lachesis (the allotter), & 3. Atropos (the unturnable/death). Aristaeus who was a kind of homesteader or jack of all trades, including dairy & wine making may also have something to teach us about Jyeshta.

The stag or male deer is the sexual/creative animal.

The pine trees & silk cotton tree, also called Semal have special significance for Jyeshta.

The neck & right side of the truck are the body parts.

Sometimes associated with a sense of arriving or becoming. The middle finger, the Ganges river, Narmada River and Ravana  also to relate with Jyeshta.

Great battle heroes, those who are noted for pedigree, wealth and fame; thieves, kings who are intent on conquests and commandants are all ruled by Jyeshta.

According to the Brihat Samhita, when Saturn transits Jyeshta trouble befalls kings & their preceptors; those that receive royal patronage or honour, war veterans, great heroes, groups or seminaries, elite families and trade guilds.

Jyeshta lies at 16º40’ Scorpio – 30º 00’ Scorpio; the heart of the Scorpio. A red star called Antaresis (Alpha Scorpionis) most significante, but Sigma & Tau Scorpionis complete the trio that make up this asterism.

“The spirit of the East is penetrating through all pores and reaching the most vulnerable parts of Europe. It could be a dangerous infection, but perhaps it’s a remedy.”

— Carl Jung

Servant: They almost consider it a service or a duty to churn things up, they can be reluctant heroes, but when nobody else steps forward they will do the dirties jobs as public service. The best leaders are also servants of the people who inspire to those they lead. The aslo serve by doing what nobody else wants to do: like stay home and babysit the younger siblings when they are a teenager.

Artha: They are primarily motivated by wealth and social connection and they can be very protective of what they have and jealous of what other have. They might also be working to restore things to haw they used to be. Placements in Jyeshta support material abundance, accumulation, appreciation, and enhancing value.

Rakshasa: They hail from the clan of Rakshasa, outcaste demon tribals who come down from the mountain and cause trouble. They don’t like to follow the rules as they usually consider themselves exceptional. They typically do not have a clear path of dharma to follow so they end up make it up as they go along; but their own desires and the accompanying passion tends to create obstacles on their way.

Sattvic: The trouble and churning of Jyeshta is to purify; to make milk into ghee; to get at the essence of life; to inspire, to lift up the soul of man.

Shiva: Jyeshta tends to be a destructive nakshatra: it clears out the old to bring in the new. Its shakes things up and breaks things down so that only the pure essence is left.

Female: We might note that there can be something quite passive about Jyeshta aggressiveness. It often works from inside to outside. It supposrts shakti practices and a certain closeness with hthe forces of nature. Imparts female characteristics to the live karakas related to planets sitting here. For example, the 5th house lord placed here can give a female child; 10th lord can give female boss, and 3rd or 11th lord here can give female friends.

Air: Changeable, subtle, cold, pervasive, movable, & clear. We can note that Fire & Air have a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship. But Earth & Air impede each other. Water & Air are outright enemies. This is a very mobile nakshatra, thing can move and change very quickly. Placements here are more sensitive the the subtler realms. Jyeshta can experience sudden gusts of wind.

Vata:  A windy constitution which is a combination of Air & Ether. Vata is cold, dry, light, moving, subtle, clear, hard, pervasive, & rough. Makes a person flighty and thin. Vata is disturbed by bitter (Mars), astringent (Saturn), pungent (Sun). Vata is pacified by sweet (Jupiter) & sour (Venus).

Active: Planets here will actively pursue their interests. Active planets like Mars and Sun will have their activity enhanced making these people exceptionally productive; but they will also bring a lot of disruption to life. More passive planets like Jupiter and Venus will struggle a bit more in to achieve the heights of Jyeshta, but there will be fewer disruptions in life. The moon gives an active, analytical, ever churning mind which disturbs our peace, but we also need active and alert minds to nourish and protect the weak. Saturn here can be incredibly destructive but they will hang on till the end none the less.

Triyanga Mukha – Facing Straight Ahead (Level): This is a level-headed and forward looking nakshatra. It’s good for mundane, everyday tasks that allows us to prepare for the future. This nakshatra promotes an honest, realistic assessment. It marks a good time to level with others or yourself, to ensure that the playfield and the ground are all level. It can be a good time to start surveying, building, laying pipe, or sticking a level on anything. Mercury and Venus share this perspective. Ashwini, Mrigasirsha, Punarvasu, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Jyeshta and Revati are all forward looking.

Tikshna/Daruna – Sharp/Hard: The impulsivity of Jyeshta often comes out in sharp, hard and cutting way. It’s a dirty job but someone had to do it. Most people avoid the things that are really hard and we tend to discourage behaviour that is sharp and cutting, but Jyeshta will dive into these tasks with gusto. Acts of violence of aggression, cutting things or people down, all those kinds of cruel, dreadful acts that nobody wants to even be a part of. Beneficial placements will make it so placements here are carried out for justice, or sport, or fun; they can do really hard tapas and austerities, intense physical or mental training, overcome the most difficult obstacles, enemies, layers of rock or darkness keeping us from going deep into the ground, into the mind, or into anything to get to the very bottom of things and bring it to the surface. This is no easy job. Of course afflictions can bring out the worst in people: fighting, killing, wonton destruction, psychedelic drugs, crazy dangerous activities maybe illegal, maybe getting themselves or someone else killed by their foolish inspiration. Sharp & Hard can be used for good, or for evil.  Ardra, Ashlesha, Jyeshta, Moola are all hard people with potentially sharp tongues.

West: Auspicious direction for prayer, worship or travel in periods of planets placed here.

Sage Atri:
Sage Atri & his wife Anasuya

Sage Atri, the Adi-Guru of Jyeshta. One of the Brahma’s mind born sons first born from the eyes of Brahma; one of the twice born. Sage Atri wrote many of the hymns and mantras in the Vedas as well as he Atri Samhita & Atri Smriti. He was famed for his power for detachment as well as for his wife, Anusuya, who was the embodiment of chastity. Her story figures prominently in his life. Sage Atri taught the science of inquiry; some of his famous philosophers who have taught this method are Charvaka, Kapila, & Dattatreya. He wrote about architecture and Vastu Shastra. He had broad knowledge of many topics: creation theory, cosmology, mythology, philosophy and genealogy. He wrote a pilgrimage guide book and narrated the legends of many special places around the Godāvarī region in India.

The wives of the great trinity of Gods; Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva; became jealous of Anusuya and wanted to see her fall in prestige so the harassed their husbands to go to her and test her chastity. They came as sadhus, wandering holy men whom she was duty bound to serve, and they demanded she serve them without clothing. She would fail in her duties of hospitality to refuse their request, but of course she would fail in her duty to remain a chaste wife if she fulfilled their request. She agreed to their request, but only after performing a mantra and sprinkling water on them to turn each of them into infants who she then happily fed from her own bread one after the other.

The great gods were so overwhelmed by this that they took her for their own mother and blessed her by being born from her womb. Brahma was born as her son Soma. Vishnu came to being from her womb as Dattatreya. And Durvasa was born as an incarnation of Shiva. Other stories say that When Sage Atri returned home, he embraced the three babies making them merge into one child with three heads. This, of course, is Dattatreya. In his second life Sage Atri had two more children: Aryaman (nobility) and Amala (purity). Mercury was one of his notable grandsons. Atreya, the great Rishi scholar of Ayurvedic medicine is also said to be one of his children.

Dattatreya is notable today for the monastic movements he has inspired. Vaishnavas, Shavites, and Shakti devotees have all been inspired by Dattareya. He was a know for living a simple life, for his kindness to all and for sharing his knowledge and teaching the meaning of life as he travelled. He owned nothing but was happy. For the Natha lineage he is the Adi-Guru; the first guru with knowledge of Tantric technique; the Lord of Yoga on par with Siva; the whole trinity as a single being. He was later represented as the Nine Natha Gurus. He has numerous temples along the North bank of the Narmada river where pilgrims can get food, shelter and rest.

Dattatreya

He is often depicted with four dogs to show his loyalty and caring nature towards even the lowest dogs of this world. They also suggest the four Vedas.  A cow is often there as well to suggest the nourishment and blessing of mother earth. He hols the Japa Mala and water pot of Brahma; the conch and discus of Vishnu; and the trident and drum of Shiva. He is dressed as a forest aesthetic who has renounced world pursuits and practice a meditative yogic lifestyle. He is often praised as a kind of “Honey Bee” gathering nectar from so many flowers. In this way he is an archetype for Syncretism; combining so many mythologies and schools of thought into one. He didn’t accept the status quo and believed that the best way to gain knowledge was through direct perception, critical thinking and contemplation.

Some myths say he started wandering very early in life, he had nothing and no teachers to guide him, but he reached self-awareness from watching nature, meditating immersed in water. Teachings and practices are everywhere and can come from all sources, one merely has to make some effort to see.

He learned form everything, but for our purpose his lessons on the elements can shed some light on our own mystic quest and there are a few more that directly relate with Jyeshta:

1. Earth: He noticed that the earth was steadfastly productive, does its dharma, gets abused, heals and is steady in giving nourishment. From this he learned forbearance, to remain undisturbed even if oppressed, and to keep healing even if others injure you.

2. Water: he observed that water serves all without pride or discrimination. It’s transparent to everyone; purifies and gives life to everyone it touches. For him this meant that a saint discriminates against no one and is never arrogant; he takes the impurity and bad karma from others but is never tainted by it himself.

3. Fire: He noticed that fire purifies and transforms everything it comes in contact with, its energy shapes things. For him is meant that the heat of knowledge reforms everything it comes in contact with, to shape oneself one needs the energy of critical thinking.

4. Air/Wind: He noticed that the wind could pass through everything and everyone, unchanged, unattached like Truth. A strong wind disturbs and changes the world; also just like Truth. He strove to.be free like the wind, yet resolute true to his own power.

5. Sky: The sky is highest, it has no boundaries, no limits, it’s unaffected even if clouds and thunderstorms come and go. For him this meant that the highest within oneself, the Atman (self, soul) has no limits, it is undifferentiated and non-dual no matter what. Let the clouds of materiality pass, be one with your soul and the Universal Self.

6. The Deer: is deceived by his fear, by hunters who beat drums and scare him into a waiting net. The lesson he learned from this was to fear not the noise, and do not succumb to pressure others design for you.

7. Snake: lives in whatever hole that comes his way, willingly leaves bad skin and molts. He learned that yogi can live in any place and must be ready to molt old ideas and body for rebirth of his spirit.

Durvasa

Durvasa seemed to gain spiritual power whenever he cursed someone, which he did often, but it didn’t always work out good for him. He once cursed a righteous king with a frightful demon that sprouted from a single strand of hair. The power of the king’s moral standing easily defended him by raising a more powerful beast who chased Durvasa around until he finally went back to the king to ask pardon. Another time he cursed a young maiden to be forgotten by her lover and she was.

Drona, the mad leader of the Kaurava family was a direct disciple of Atri. Right around the time Yudhishthra announced the death of Drona’s son, Atri came to counsel him to give up the bloody war and stop the destruction that had come from his actions which went against dharma. Drona heeded this advice and went into a completely detached meditation in the middle of the battlefield until he was killed. Atri also crossed paths with the Pandavas during their exile. By Krishna’s blessing Drupati was able to satisfy his hunger with a single grain of rice to avoid the wrath of his curse.

Gods & Symbols of Jyeshta

Indra:

King of the gods, the great hero and dragon slayer. The protector of sovereignty, seniority, and as the weilder of the  thunderbolt he comes to rule electrical energy and the atmosphere generally. Farmers prayed to Indra for rain. He’s famous for being humiliated and cursed to be covered in 1000 vaginas, but this curse was modifies to become 1000 eyes allowing him to see in every direction. But he’s especially famous as the guardian of the eastern direction: the direction of the sunrise and the seat of the fire master. Some say he is the child of Saturn or maybe Mrtyu who is like the Grim Reaper. Despite being the great hero, Indra has many qualities of both of these dark gods; and Jyeshta folks usually do too: non-compliant, immoral, lonely, hiding his face in humiliation, and self-sacrificing.

The whole story of Indra is one of jealousy, the Asuras always wanted what he had, but Indra always wanted what others had. He fought 12 major wars against the Asuras before they all came together to churn the ocean of milk. After all that churning of the ocean of Milk he was given the wish fulfilling tree, but only after much trouble and churning. He’s a master of psychology and nobody usually knows what Indra is up to. He is the controller of the Indriyas; the five senses that allow us to take in information from the world, and the five faction that allow us to offer information to the world. There were 12 wars so I imagine that the mind and the intellect serve as the junction box between input and output. He is said to control the different dimensions, and he is the great protector of mother earth.

In the Kaushitaki Upanishad Indra says: “Know me only; that is what I deem most beneficial for man, that he should know me. I slew the 3 headed son of Tvashtri; I delivered the Anunmukhas, the devotees, to the wolves (salavrika); breaking my treaties, I killed the people of Puloma in the sky, the people of Kalakanga on earth. And not one hair on my head was harmed.”

He has pride and power, but what he’s trying to say is that you cannot trust your senses, nothing is ever what is seems. The reason he was able to defeat these enemies is because he was willing to do what no one else would do: break treaties, feed devotees to the wolves. He was willing to do the unthinkable, the impossible to get what he wanted. In some ways he telling us to reach for the impossible, do what nobody else will do; don’t follow the status quo; be authentic; be free; know yourself as the controller of the senses.

There is similar to the lesson Alakshmi teaches us. Who is really looking after the house? It’s not the lovely rich lady who is greeting the guests, it’s the servant who is managing the whole thing from the shadows. It reminds us to always look to see where the power is behind the throne. Indra also has some of the same qualities as Alakshmi: self-sacrifice, isolations, loneliness. Indra’s own house was stolen from him one time. Devasena, the divine mother of all dogs who usually travels with Yama, went to find it for him.

Churning the Ocean of Milk

The Churning of the Ocean of Milk all got started because of Indra. While he was riding his elephant he came across sage Durvasa who offered him a garland made by one of the forest nymphs as a home for the great goddess Sri. Indra accepted the garland, but thinking it was a test of his ego he didn’t dare wear it himself so he put it on his elephant. Eventually the elephant got annoyed with the bees and insects it was attracting and threw it onto the ground. Durvasa became enraged at this slight against not only himself, but against Sri, the forest nymphs and god himself. So Durvasa cursed Indra and the Devas (as opposed to the Asuras) to loose their strength, energy and good fortune. At this time the Asuras, led by King Bali began winning the battles against the Devas and reigning over the heavens.

Eventually the Devas went to Vishnu for advice. He theme they would have to get the Amrita from the bottom of the ocean of milk and the only way to do so was to work with the Asuras to churn the ocean until it rose tot he surface. The first thing that arose was the toxins and the pollution which threatened to destroy everything until Shiva agreed to drink it.

This churning of the Ocean of Milk is essentially the Hindu creation myth. Everything that arose from the Ocean of Milk had a good side and a bad side. From all the good that would come of the treasures of the ocean of Milk, there would be and equal amount of evil. We see revise psychology used right off the bat as the Devas grab the head of snake knowing the Asuras would complain. Once they did complain they would, bother own choice take the head of the snake which vomited forth the toxic Halahala. They were to share everything, but this first portion Shiva drank in order that the rest of us could live. And the last portion, the Amrita itself, which is what everyone wanted, was promised by Vishnu to go only to the Daityas; but of course the Ashura, Shwarbanu, became Rahu and Ketu by seeing through this treachery. And of course somewhere in the middle of of this Lakshmi was explicitly born while her shadow, Alakshmi was implicitly born along side of her. We should also note that although Lakshmi became Vishnu’s wife she was to be shared with all of the Devas and Ashura’s. Word on the street is that since she will go into every man pocket she is a bit of a whore. And this is the way of wealth, it doesn’t care if you are good or bad, if you worship her fortune will come top you, along side her will be her sister, misfortune. What goes up must come down.

This churning, and vigorous agitation is the path of a Jyeshta native. Moon is a bit sensitive here because the mind and emotions are always churning, but any planet will churn when placed in Jyeshta. The ultimate goal being a substance of the most refined purity. The gods could not do this one their own, they had to integrate the Asuras into the project.

A churn is commonly known as a machine for making milk into butter, but any kind of agitator can be considered a churn. The washing machine does a the same in order to get cloths clean. The cleaning process that happening in jyeshta can be vigorous and intense. Some times when people are sick to their stomach they might say their stomach in churning moments before vomiting. This too is just the body trying to clean itself. If it’s really bad then the toxins might come from both ends; and there is much allusion in Jyeshta to back side and the shit that comes out after all the good stuff is absorbed by the body.

This mind also chins when we are disturbed, and a jyeshta will have to release what bothering them before they can feel better and relax. It’s like something starts bubbling up from deep inside, their blood might boil to a certain degree. Again the trick is to just allow the process to complete itself before acting. The inner churning is separating the crap from the truth. If we act too soon we are likely to be full of shit and end up humiliated again. Just wait, the truth always reveals itself eventually. Just look at all the crap that came out of the ocean before the elixir emerged. The first thing that came up was the poison that threatened to destroy everything. And then slowly slowly more refined substances started to emerge.

These people like to stir the pot, stir things up and agitate the situation in the quest to bring up something unexpected but most refined. Business school also has something they call the “churn rate.” This refers to how many customers are lost over a given time. Customer turnover rather than customer retention. Jyeshta natives tend to have a fairly high turnover rate in anything they get involved in. And finally we can talk about churning things out, which refers to very quick, mechanical, and generally carelessly producing large quantities of something in the way China churns out a bunch of junk trinkets for the world, or the way a 2nd rate novelist churns out one book after another.

Killing of the Asura Sage Prahlada

After the Churning of the Ocean of Milk there was another great battle. Prahlada was the King of the asura and great Vaisnava Bhakta who showed loving and devoted worship to Vishnu the despite abuse heaped on him by his father, who had no appreciation for his son spiritual inclinations. Some of the stories are similar to those of Hercules who faced every kind of advisory from the time he was a small baby. His father tried to poison him, have him trampled by elephants. He was thrown in to a river, and had two snakes released on him while he was in his crib. But he was well protected by Vishnu who saved him every time. Unlike Hercules who killed the two snakes in his crib, Prahlada’s snakes just made a bed for him to recline upon. Another story has him sitting on his aunties lap when she went to isolate herself on her husband’s funeral pyre. It was assumed her austerity would save her but the boy would be burned up. But it was he who lived while she was reduced to ash. This is actually the story recounted through the Holi celebration and we mostly see Prahlada pictured as a young boy.

Prahlada’s father was the great asura king, Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu had a boon that he could not be killed by anything born of a living womb, nor by man nor animal; neither during day or night, neither indoors or outdoors, neither on land or water or in the air; and by no man-made weapon. Indra fashioned Narashima out of sea foam. The fierce half lion half man slipped through all the cracks in the boon to the loopholes to kill Hiranyakashipu in an in-between place at an in-between time. After Narashima kills Prahlada’s father Prahlada himself became king of the asuras. He was greatly loved and respected; by his virtues alone he was able to conquer the three worlds and Lord Indra eventually had to go to Vishnu to figure out how to get his kingdom back. Indra ended up deceiving Prahlada into giving him the power of his austerities; it can be a very heavy burden to carry around. But as soon as he relieved himself of them, his kingdom began to fall apart.

Killing of Virochana:

Virochana was the son of Prahlada, husband of Satchi and father of Bali whose head Vishnu eventually used as a stepping stone. Virochana had been seeking to avenge his father’s death which gave Indra no choice but to kill him. This was to be th 5th major war between the Devas and asuras: the Tarakamaya War.

Indra and Virochana were both pupils who stayed with Prajapati for 32 years to learn about the self. They both went away feeling they had learned something, but Prajapati suspected that they still believed the body to be the self. Virochana went back to the demons to teach that the body is the self; to worship and adorn the body beautifully. He taught that indulgence would bring joy in this world and the next. Indra, meanwhile, suspected that his understanding of the was incomplete and went back to study for another 32 years. And again he went back until he spent 101 years studying to master the teaching of the Self. “Those who know the self to be beyond the body master pleasure and pain and live in a state of joy.”

Since Virochana’s knowledge of the self was far from complete, Indra was able to easily deceive him into giving his own head to what appeared to be a beggar. Indra used his own generosity against him. Krishna later used this as a president to convince Arjuna to cheat in his fight against Duryodhana

Killing of Vritra: Vritra is the one who covers everything, the dragon who blocked all the great rivers to cause a drought. See hymn 18 of Mandala IV for the best version of this story. Vritra was raised by Tvashta to avenge the killing of his son Vishvarupa. He arose on the south side of the sacrificial fire and began terrorising the world. Indra went to Vishnu and asked him what to do. Vishnu told him that only weapons made from the bones of a saint would killed the beast. They approached Sage Dadhichi who gladly offered his bones for a good cause. Indra made the Vajrayudha out of them.

The one who stepped forward to be the Hero then went to Tvasara house and drank a keg of Soma to gain power, courage and inspiration in his fight against the dragon. Tvasar made him the thunderbolt and Vishnu made space for the battle with 3 great steps. The battle lasted 360 days. Indra had both jaws broken in battle but managed to decide Vritra and body slam him into one of his fortresses, killing him. Indra then destroyed all 99 of Vritra’s fortresses (dams) to open the river. Indra then went after Vritra’s mother, Danu, who was one of the wives of Daksha. He quickly defeated her with the thunderbolt. Most stories put Varuna, Soma and Agni on the side of Vritra who they called father, but one story is that they were on Indra’s side all along. One Vedic hymn suggests that it was Saraswati who killed Vritra. Indra had to go into hiding after all of this to get away from Brahmanahatya (the personification of Brahmanicide).

Curse of Sage Gautamam:

Sage Gautam’s wife, Ahalya, was the epitome of beauty. Indra became obsessed with her. He hung around the ashram just so he could feast his senses on her. He also kept his eye on the sage so he could plan his opportunity. When he noticed that Sage Gautama would go down to the river for meditation every morning, he decided to crow like a rooster extra early to make some opportunity for himself. When the Sage left for his meditation, Indra took on his form and went to make love to Ahalya. She did not notice at first, but she soon became filled with shame. The Sage cursed her to remain invisible until she met Rama. He cursed Indra to be covered in vaginas which were said to follow the menstrual cycles leaving him covered in blood for a few days every month. This caused Indra to go into seclusion and pray to Lord Brahma for help. Brahma partitioned the Sage on his behalf and the curse was modified from vaginas to eyes. Sleeping with another’s wife, shamed by one’s own desires and attractions to the objects of the senses, public shame, retreating to do penance, redemption, rooster in the hen-house, inflammatory illnesses of the skin (boils, spontaneous bleeding, haemorrhoids, difficult periods for women),

Indrajala – Indra’s Net

Indra is known as the first creator of Maya, so Indrajala refers to Indra’s net, his magic, deception, fraud, illusion, conjuring, juggler, sorcery. In short it refers to this whole world of Maya. He is able to create something in peoples minds that does not really exist in order to manipulate and deceive them. He spreads his net of Maya over whomever he chooses and mankind generally in order to keep us under his control. This power can be used equally for good or for evil; but it’s thought to be ultimately beyond good and evil. This power is often used to scare the enemy and it’s included as a branch of diplomacy in the curriculum of kings.

Indrajala is also known as Indra’s pearls or Indra’s Jewels which hang over his palace on mount Meru. This is the Axis Mundi, the axis which connects the underworld with the heavens as it passes through earth. I will go in to this important concept below.

This net is described as stretching out in every direction to infinity. In each eye of the net is a jewel; since the net is infinite it means the number of jewels is also infinite. They hang there, glittering like stars. In each jewel is reflected every other jewel of the net, they are all connected and all are part of each other. The Buddhists have a nice way of comparing this to the atoms. Indra is very much a nucleus figure: the power in the centre around whom all the electrons and protons revolve. A close inspection of atoms seems to suggest and infinite reduction of ever smaller atoms within atoms; and all the atom interconnected in some inexplicable way. An ancient Chinese text tells us that if we become seating in one of these jewels, it’s the same as being seating in all of them. So, they say, we never really leave and jewel or enter any other. Everything that exists seems to imply the existence of everything else. The universe is a web of connections and interdependencies.

With this net Indra was capable of tricking his opponents into using their own powerful weapons or special abilities against themselves, thus never having to lift a finger himself. This net is further referenced as a spiders web, and weaving in general which connects it the the western spinners of man’s fate as well at to the tantric notion of weaving time and space together. Aldous Huxley used this idea of Indra’s net in his novel: Brave New World. The Indra was a kind of artificial intelligence that obsess Yves, monitors and analyses all the citizens 24/7 just like big brother.

Axis Mundi – Cosmic Axis

Connects the heavens and earth; the higher realms with the lower. This is the axis we travers through our good and bad action. The hero quest takes place on this axis: starting from the depths of hell, one climbs up to heaven where paradise awaits.

It’s sometimes connected with the centre of the universe, which connects it to the individual  so that wherever one happens to be in the centre of the universe. You could say that each “eye’ of Indras net represents centre from it’s own perspective. This reminds me of an old saying: “within each head lies an entire universe. This universe is full of heads.” This concept is also used to refer to the idea that the macrocosmos is reflected in the microcosms. Anything can serve as an axis mundi. In this way it’s quite similar to Indra. Holy places often serve as such an axis, especially mountains and trees which have reach below the ground, pass the the earth and reach up to the heavens. The home is also seen a a kind of cosmic centre around which all activity revolves.

This is where the disk of the Milky Way intersects the zodiac: Zero degrees Gemini and zero degrees Sagittarius. Rohini and Mrigasirsha are thought to be highly auspicious while Jyeshta and Mula are thought to be highly inauspicious. The first relate with Soma the nectar of immortality while the later relate with poison. The axis mundi can be said to go from the star Aldeberan of Rohini (18 degrees Taurus) to Antares of Jyeshta (20 degrees Scorpio). They are said to be to doorways to the milky way. Rohini is represented by Lakshmi with the heart of Brahma very nearby, while Jyeshta represent Alakshmi. We can also connect Taurus with the bull, virility, the universal creative principle of Brahma. Scorpio is the killer of the bull, the destructive tendency and poison of the scorpion which bring things to and end. Brahma of Rohini is the father of the Gods while Indra in the King off the gods. Indra commits fights and kills his own father in order to gain his independence and sovvregnty. This is why astrologers predict problems from the the first born when they see moon in Jyeshta. This axis is sometimes called the Shiva axis with the masculine energy on one side and the feminine principle on the other.

Brahmas creations are based on desire and duality which is probably part of the reason he is so little worshiped in India. He is easily defeated by those who are able to transcend duality and rise above their desires. Rohini and Mrigashirsha offer many material boons, but Jyeshta and Mula offer many spiritual boons. This is the duality inherent in everything. What is nectar in the material realm becomes poison in the spiritual realm and vice versa.

The Hero or Dragon Slayer Archetype

“What I think is that a good life is one hero journey after another. Over and over again, you are called to the realm of adventure, you are called to new horizons. Each time, there is the same problem: do I dare? And then if you do dare, the dangers are there, and the help also, in the fulfilment or the fiasco. There’s always the possibility of a fiasco. But there’s also the possibility of bliss.”

~Joseph Campbell

  1. The call to adventure. The call to follow your heart or do something unique and unusual. This is the call to realise your unconscious potential. (Many people don’t heed the call).
  2. They meet with their fear of what their hidden potential might hold as well as with the fear of failure. (Many people turn back or are destroyed by their fear or their call to adventure was misguided.)
  3. As they move along the path they are confronted by various obstacles and challenges, and things from their past that seek to hold them back from fully embracing the unconscious potential which is seeking expression. At some point they will experience a “dark night of the soul” and the corresponding profound realisations or epiphanies on life, typically through a period of isolation or seclusion (Complete and utter destruction is possible all along the way on this journey).
  4. Victory means some kind of sacred treasure, elixir, princess or what Jung called Individualisation, a unique and confident person who has integrated their unconscious motivations into their conscious life and realised their hidden potential. But even more than that, they are a new person, severed from their past.
  5.  The challenge now is to return home. In the words of Joseph Campbell; “The whole idea is that you’ve got to bring out again that which you went to recover, the unrealised, unutilized potential in yourself. The whole point of this journey is the reintroduction of this potential into the world…It goes without saying, this is very difficult. Bringing the boon back can be even more difficult than going down into your own depths in the first place.”
  6. Eventually there is another call to adventure.
The 10 Indiyas

Indra is known as the one who has subdued the senses. He is the controller of these ten tools rather than being controlled by them. By force of the will Jyeshta natives gain control of their senses by turning everything in ward. They are natural yogis capable of storing great amounts of energy internally before releasing it at the chosen time. They run into difficulty when they are incapable of controlling the release. They can be masters of Pratyahara, withdrawal of the senses and they do learn to master a great amount of control. When this is self-control you get a yogi; when they seek to control those around them they can become tyrants.

One of the main rules of sense withdrawal is that you are what you eat. Whatever you are seeing, hearing, smelling, taste and touching is a direct reflection of who you are. If you want to change yourself or transform your life, start here: become aware of each sense organ and function, adjust your sensory inputs, seek to cleans them by seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, tasting no evil. Stop looking around so much, be cool, just relax all the senses. Watch the mind, because the mind the the controller of the senses. And of course whatever comes from the senses goes directly to the mind. We might take note that this relation with the Indriyas connects Jyeshta to lord Vayu of Swati nakshatra, Soma sitting across from Jyeshta in Mrigasirsha, and possibly Rudra of Ardra; all of which have something slightly uncivilised about them. Respectively you could say they represent the senses, the movement of the senses and the energy of the senses.

5 Jnanendriyas: These are the five senses that allow us to collect knowledge (jnana) about the world surrounding us. Energy moves from external to internal.

            1. Eyes for seeing the world
            2. Ears for listening
            3. Nose for smell
            4. Mouth for taste
            5. Skin for touch

5 Karmendriyas: These a the five functional abilities that allow us to interact with the world. Energy moves from inside of ourselves and goes out into the world somehow.

            1. Mouth for speaking
            2. Hands to reach out and grasp
            3. Feet for walking and moving in the world
            4. Genitals for procreation
            5. Rectum for execution
Ravana

Ravana was the great wise king of Lanka who Ram had sworn to destroy. In some ways he is a Moby Dick character who doesn’t really do anything extra-ordinarily evil, but Ram destroyed the world in order to get his revenge anyways. In the mean time Ram turned Ravana into a gear anti-hero revered across the land. He had such great knowledge that it filled ten heads and he was infamous for offering his own head to Shiva in his daily prayers: another one would just grow back in its place. This sense of self-sacrifice is a key element in Jyeshta natives. They are not out to win in the same way as an Aries. The Jyeshta native usually wants to send a message; in some way, there is much more at stake for a Jyeshta than just winning. It’s also written that Lakshmi lived in his golden city; for such wealth to be there Lakshmi had to have been presiding there as well; and wherever there is Lakshmi there is Alakshmi in the shadows. We might not that Ravana was a Shiva Bhakti, Shiva also came in the form of Hanuman to help Rama, and, it was to a Shiva lingam Rama prayed before going into the final battle. Shiva is the destructive phase realty. Vishnu, represented by Rama, is the organised, operator and controller of reality. But we see every time that as this organising principle tries to exert greater and greater control over the world that eventually the forces of destruction come to help him try to control things and sustain a certain way of life. It’s like trying to control a spring by progressively applying more force. Al that restrictive force applied over time eventually gets released in one power moment; one final battle that changes everything. Very often when a jyeshta releases their energy there can be no going back to the way things used to be. And thus, with Ravana’s defeat, Rama (or Vishnu) won the battle; but it was Shiva who won the war. The energy of Alakshmi also works something like this. And we must not forget the Alakshmi also represents the jealousy that comes with great wealth. It was certainly Jyeshta energy that led Ravana to covet Rama’s wife. But it’s possible that Rama also wanted to defeat Ravana out of jealousy for all that he had. One could see the whole war as one of pride (which. Is also a strong Jyeshta theme.

Ouroboros – Circular earring – Protective Amulet – The Coiled Snake

The symbol of the Ouroborus brings several other symbolic motifs to mind. The snake eating its own tail is sometimes represented by a dragon doing the same. We can also think of it as a coiled snake, like the one at the base of the spine, or protecting its eggs, or getting ready to strike. Mythologically we find a coiled snake being used to churn the ocean of milk from whence all duality arose.

The snake itself is a powerful symbol of transmigration, periodic shading of the skin and a dropping of the mask. The cycles of time and the circadian rhythms: day, weekly, monthly, yearly cycles of nature; life, death and rebirth; the churning of the wheels of of Karma. The snake is also a power symbol of fertility, especially with the phallic snake tail going into the yawning yoni-like mouth of the snake. The circle is a natural symbol of divine protection: order on the inside and chaos on the outside.

The Natha sadhus, who brand themselves with the large circular earring greet each other with the word “Aadesh,” meaning order, meaning, welcome to the inner circle. The Natha baba’s typically live somewhat chaotic heterodox lifestyles. The order offered by the brotherhood through interconnected ashrams, pilgrimage routes and the many householders who are devoted to the Natha order provides a kind of ground that Natha’s (or any one else) can fall back on in times of need. They are like backstop for those who are hitting bottom and being devoured by life. The possibility for redemption is a the heart of most, tantric and mystic philosophies. It doesn’t matter what you have done in this life, regardless of how deep your self loathing, self regrets, guilt. pain or suffering might be; you have always turn things around. And although we cannot go back in time to fix things, time is moving in circles so that some energy will come back into our lives again and again allowing us the opportunity to redeem some of what was lost, make amends and learn the next lesson. It’s like we keep coming back to the same place in life and are given the opportunity to make a different choice. To break the cycle is a little like the snake coming unwound. To complete the hero quest the Hero must also return home with his prize, but he also returns a new man.

It’s customary to do a circumnabulation (or Parikrama) of temples, statues, sacred tree, or any kind of sacred space. Many rituals also begin by kind of going around and marking out the directions to mark out the sacred space.

Kundalini Shakti

Jyeshta has a lot to do with the power of the will and much of their path in life is to align their individual will with the universal will. They get their intense sense of purpose from this alignment. It’s also the hidden source of power and knowledge that they seem to have. Of course it’s not for the universe to align it’s will to our, we have to accept reality, use what we have available and align our will with the universe.

But how can we know the difference between our own limited desires that may be driving our will, and those desires of the universal will?

The individual will wants to satisfy limited hopes and desires, the fruit of which may be enjoyed in this life. This is like going after quick money or fast women; it don’t provide any kind of long term term satisfaction: every day we set off on a new quest for a fresh conquest.  It just provides and ego boost that quickly fades away.

When you are called by the universe to carry out a mission it usually seems impossible, absolute madness, and it’s the last thing in the world you will want to do. The hardships will likely be inconceivable. It will likely challenge every fiber of your being. But the universe doesn’t care about your feelings, stop whining and get to work. There’s something much bigger at stake than you petty concerns. And it’s not just physically dangerous, one is usually called to suffer a lot of humiliation. Regardless of what kind of quest it is, they key to success for Jyeshta natives is usually humility.

If what you feel called to do makes sense, if it’s ground in the world of logic and reason, then it’s probably just your own limited desire and not the universal will. It could take a whole life time or several lifetimes to complete a universal mission. And the universal will is beyond good and evil. This makes it very hard to judge a Jyeshta native. If not for the evil genius the hero would never rise up.

So, when our will aligns with the universal will and we find ourself with some special purpose in this life the kundalini awakens and we are given super human strength to overcome all odds.

The highest mission that Jyeshta natives are called to do is to conquer themselves, establish control over their own senses and mind, and channel every bit of energy they have on self reflection and self-mastery. Whatever fears are left at this point one has to go directly towards that by recognising that fear for what it is: just Maya. Jyehsta natives have to awaken their shadow sides, to stir things up, to poke the bear and arouse the dragon. They have to trigger their traumas, their fear, doubt, shame, guilt, all of those negative feeling we have inside, expose them to the light of day and the lamp knowledge, an overcome by the power of divine will. It’s always our own inner demons and dragons which much be conquered before success can be found in the external material world.

By surrendering our individual self to the higher self and taking the perspective of the universal witness we can get our of the cycles karma, overcome long ingrained samskaras and gain knowledge that cannot be measured and take action that is without limit. We just have to sacrifice everything we have and return we are given the whole universe. Indra cuts the knots that keep us bound.

Protective Talisman & An Umbrella

Jyeshta natives seem to have divine protection. Most astrologers relate this with purely mystical types of protection like spacial amulets or luck charms. But Jyeshta native are typically prepared. They have the first aid kit, the letterman multi-tool and the umbrella always ready in case of emergency. We can’t keep it from raining but we can bring an umbrella. From the mystical prospect they might believe that just having the first aid kit is protective because the one time the leave it at home it the one time they really need it. They understand that everything has energy and that just being prepared provide a kind of protection; possibly deterrent. It’s when we not prepared that the universe will show us what we are lacking. Besides everything has a kind of mystical energy and at least part of the energy is atmospheric which is a particular specialty of Jyeshta. But it’s more than just the atmosphere, Jyeshta understand the importance of sentimental energy, like the kind one might get from family heirloom. And on a deeper level Jyeshta natives a profound understanding of the placebo effect: the power of belief and the suspension of disbelief; otherwise known as magic. Jyeshta natives tend to have some special sensitivity for how things feel, how they test, and how the smell. The snake like powers are all strong. But since snakes don’t have ears they don’t hear or listen very well.

Churning the Ocean of Milk

Churning the ocean of milk is heavily referenced by Jyeshta.

Alaxmi – Not-Lakshmi

Laxmi’s elder sister, Lakshmi’s shadow, the dark goddess with the power to quickly transform things. She is the embodiment of duality for anything good to arrive there first arises something bad. It’s like we see the shadow of a thing before we see the thing itself. She is called cow-repelling, antelope-footed, bull-toothed. She has dry shrivelled body, sunken cheeks, thick lips, beady eyes and rides a donkey and is sometimes accompanied by a crow. It said that when she enters a household she bring jealousy and malic with her: brothers fall out with each other, families and the male lineages (kula) face ruin and destruction. She brings poverty and grief. She only comes up by this name in the later Puranik literature, but he watches all the features of Nritti of the Rig Veda. She is sometimes called Jyeshta, or Kalahapriya, or Daridara.

Alakshmi was the second wife of the demon Kali, the lord of Kali Yuga who was born from Anger and Violence. His first wife was his sister, Durukti, Harsh Speech. From Kali & Durukti was born Fearfulness and Death; and from them were born Excessive Pain & Hell.

Some say Alakshmi is the Owl seated beside Lakshmi. She is a secret goddess; invisible to all except those who has Saraswati (learning and knowledge) by their side. But Lakshmi does not like Saraswati. It’s said she will always kick her out to make room for her sister. Alakshmi who invariably makes trouble, and causes the family wealth to move to a different house.

Alakshmi is the first; the senior-most; the dark antithesis of Laxmi; goddess of the dark side. This is the dark shadow mother that seeks to thwart the progress of the hero by instilling them with doubt, shame or fear. She is a little like the Medusa figure who we do not want to look at. She is our own shadow side that longs for integration and expression in the world. She is the one who reminds us that there is more to this life than the material world. On one hand she can be that hole inside of ourselves that we are trying to fill. One the other hand, all those negative feelings of doubt, shame, guilt and fear are not trying to drag us down, they are trying to purify our desires, purify our path in life.

Doubt asks us: “Do you really want this?” Shame asks us: “is it worthy?” Guilt asks us: “What could I have done differently?” Fear protects us, but like anything that protect us, it can be too protective and keep us from growing. When our life is directed towards truth, beauty, knowledge, freedom, God, the Self; things like wealth, comfort and luxury tend to take a back seat. Jyeshtas are looking for this deeper meaning, for the power behind the throne; the one who is manipulating things behind the scenes; the true source of power.

As long as we do not follow the hero’s quest when called, this dark queen will keep us in a dead end job and an unfulfilled life. At some point in life many people come to a point where they have everything except one thing is missing. It’s different for everyone, but that feeling that something is missing is Alakshmi and regardless of how much wealth, comfort and luxury one might have, they will eventually move on to go looking for it, possibly giving up everything in the search for deeper meaning.

Alakshmi is the eldest of the nakshatra wives; the eldest sister. Of course the role of the eldest sister is to be a role model for the younger sibling while taking care of them. The eldest sister is like a second mother to the younger siblings. Elder siblings or step-relatives often play the role of whatever planet is in Jyeshta. And then whenever a a jyeshta person comes into your life they are often mimicking the relationship with that relative somehow.

Moira (the Fates and fairies):

The spinners of the thread of fate. One spins the thread when we are born, one measures it while we live and the last cuts it at our death. They commonly travelled in groups of three regardless of culture or time. They are said to be even above the gods as they control the fate of every being that is born into this world. And the gods too were born and will one day die. They reflect a fatalistic outlook of life with death always as the outcome, the culmination of a continuous process. These are the Devis who measure out each person’s portion; this can relate to the allotment of life force, but the concept of moira was used by pirates when talking about how to divy up the loot. They were known to put order to chaos. Aphrodite Urania, born without a mother from the severed genitals of Uranus and the sea foam of Neptune, is the more ancient version of Aphrodite and is considered the eldest sister of the fates. They essentially rule over birth and death. New brides offered locks of hair and they sought their favour in giving a long life to their children to be born. They were especially famous for arriving for the birth of a hero to give them their destiny. They were sometimes associated with Artemis who was the leader of the nymphs.

Eris:

Eris is the Greek Goddess of discord. She is the brother of Aries, the god of war. She is the one who sought revenge for not being invited to a wedding. She threw a golden apple in the crowd that said “for the most beautiful woman.” Helen of Troy was judged the most beautiful by Paris, who was the prince of Troy. They married, but the jealousy which ensued led to the Odyseusses quest in search of his fair wife and the destruction of the city of Troy.

Rta:

Rta means fixed, right, true, properly joined, settled order, final word, divine law. Ordered action, action which is measured out. “Bṛihaspati is referred to as possessing a powerful bow with “Ṛta as its string” and as one prepared to “mount the chariot of Ṛta.” Agni is described as one who is “desirous of Ṛta”, one who is “Ṛta-minded” and as he who “spread Heaven and Earth by Ṛta.” The Maruts are referred to as “rejoicing in the house of Ṛta” and as “knowers of Ṛta.” Usha is described as having been “placed at the root of Ṛta”; Varuna is praised as “having the form of Ṛta” and, along with Mitra as Mitra-Varuna, as “destroying the foes by Ṛta” and as “professing Ṛta by Ṛta”. Epithets such as “born of Ṛta” and “protector of Ṛta” are frequently applied to numerous divinities, as well as to the sacrificial fire and the sacrifice itself.” (wiki) But they never commend Rta, they are rather the agents of it’s activity.

Rta as a concept combines karma and dharma with natural laws. The idea that each person gets their just allotment of karma was ruled over by Rta. Our beliefs must accord with dharma natural order and our actions must conform with the ritual order of the universe otherwise the deviation would bring problems into our lives.

We could probably learn a lot about Jyeshta though the stories of Dhumvati, Gilgamesh, Osiris, Christ, Dante, Odysseus, Aeneas, Pinocchio, Dorothy in wizard of Oz, Zeus, Ra (the Egyptian King of the Gods).

Pine Tree

Pine trees are incredibly tough. They have a very tough exterior, covered in needles, scaly, almost snake like bark and numerous defence mechanisms for birds, insects, fungus, cold, and drought. They can withstand almost anything. But what we really cherish is for is the soft-wood inside. Pine is essentially a forestry cash crop; it makes money, figuratively and literally since it’s one of the main trees used in pulp and paper. It’s not hard to see how all of this ties in with Indra, but also with Mercury who rules over paper, currency and cash. It only takes about 30 years for a crop to mature for commercial use. The pine tree is also the original Christmas tree though many cultures now use spruce.

In the 1980’s pine trees met one of their great enemies in the Pine Beatle. In the 2000’s this Beatles began to spread (partly due to warmer climactic conditions in the north) and really devastated forests.

Inside the pine tree is a thick, almost clear resin that protects the tree by covering-over wounds made by insects and animals and helps in the natural healing process. The needle shaped “leaves” makes snow fall off  so that branches don’t off. The needles are coated in a special kind of wax that helps seal in the moisture, and provide a special kind of insulation so the needles don’t freeze. Breathing is quite restricted by these coated needles, but they are capable of surviving and living through the winter. Jyeshta natives might also have some special skill for surviving in the cold.

Pine trees are monoecious, meaning that they grow both male and female pine cones that fertilise each other. The cones are essentially the equivalent of flowers. They contain helicopter seeds that are spread in the wind or through animal droppings. The roots usually go down about three feet, oxygen is not usually available to roots deeper than that and since the breathing through the needles is restricted, they tend to breath more through their roots. It can be noticed that very few other plants, and certainly no gasses tend to live around pine tree. It’s said that the fallen needles kill everything off; but this might be a service to the roots which are very hungry for water oxygen and nutrients. The original root branches out to secondary and tertiary branches called “hairs.” To absorb nutrients the roots work together with a fungus called “mycorrhiza” which grows like a coating over the roots to help it absorb nutrients while it lives off the sugars produced by the pine roots.

Some species of pine grow edible pine nuts. Other species allow turpentine to be made from the sap. A few varieties are planted in wintery places to act as windbreaks and they are also considered pretty enough to be ornamental. The vapour released by pines becomes arosol when it meets oxygen. This is said to contribute to climate change and certainly aids in cloud formation. Something to think about the next time you go into a misty pine forest. And we cannot forget the lovely fragrance they share with us. The smell of fresh pine was synonymous with cleanliness for many ageing baby boomers.

Red Silk Cotton Tree – Indian Cotton Wood

Bombax ceiba – Kapok Tree – Kateshwar or Shalmali.

Red Silk Cotton Tree hot, dry river valleys, lower elevations, humid lowlands. It’s often found near stream banks. It’s a fast growing tree that can grow to about 25 meters high and spread it’s foliage in an umbrella shape as much as 15 meters wide. Leaves are bright green, leathery & rounded. Flowers are cup shaped with five red petals that bloom in spring near the time of the Holi festival. Fruits are brown oval capsule. The truck and stems have spikes to deter animals, but it’s also a very attractive plant for most animals. Bee, insects and spiders are especially attracts to the flowers so many species of bird also come to eat the insects as well as the fruit.

Mythology

Mythologically the Silk Cotton tree is one of the best places to find spirits and supernatural beings who live in the tree. This often makes creates difficulties for worldly people who are trying to get superstitious people to clear a piece of land for them. This has actually created big problems in some parts of the world. They were construction a new highway in Guyana when they came across a huge silk-cotton tree where the highway was supposed to go. The locals caused a big fuss in refusing to cut down the tree. It’s said that the engineers who were pushing for the trees removal all died of mysterious causes and eventually they decided to leave the tree and build the highway around it. Some parts of the world call it “the God Tree” or “the Devil Tree.” It takes them about 60 – 70 years to fully mature: they grow big and live for a long time. Some myths say they can move around on their own and will occasionally gather together. Rituals are often performed beneath their canopy and the wood is sometimes used to make caskets. In Trinidad in was believed that the Great Snake God lived in a forest of silk-cottons. The British government has ordered the clearing of large forests of these tree to discourage local indigenous spiritual practices. And it was said that you could bury treasure beneath these trees, and kill the slave who dug the hole so that the ghost of the slave would inadvertently protect the treasure.

China Southern Airline uses the flower of this tree as it’s symbol

Ayurvedic Uses

Different parts of the plant can treat a wide variety of conditions. The flowers are astringent and used in the treatment of cholera, tubercular fistula, coughs, urinary complaints, nocturnal pollution, abdominal pain due to dysentery, and impotency. The cotton is used for insulation, refrigeration, soundproof covers, or as padded surgical dressing. It can also be used as a aphrodisiac. Leaves are hypotensive and hypoglycaemic They can also be used for blood purification. The dried fruits are used for calculus affections, chronic inflammation, ulceration of the bladder and kidneys. The roots are cool, sweet, stimulant, tonic, and demulcent and are used used for excess bleeding in mensuration. Roots and seeds are used for more serious skin conditions. Mixed with cow dung and applied to the muscles over night to treat inflammation. The gum is astringent, demulcent and tonic and used for dysentery, hemoptyisis in pulmonary tuberculosis, influenza, menorrhagia. The bark is good for cholera, pleurisy, insect stings, or as a diuretic. It’s also used to bandage fractures, or given for toothache. Fresh rubbed bark can be used for pimples, acne, boils, and wounds, as well as being rubbed on the nipples to improve breast milk. Fresh stem bark can be mixed for gonorreha, impotency, sterility, nocturnal emissions, or leucorrhoea. Decoction of the shoots has reputedly been used to treat ulcers of the palate, syphlis, leprosy, spider or snake bites. Combined with the other things it can be used to treat enlarged spleen, edema, or even corns on the feet. Seedlings in combination with other herbs have a reputed anti-pyretic activity, carbuncle, or hematuria. Knots and stems can be used for bleeding gums. The seeds can be poisonous when injected.

Culinary Uses

The flowers and leaves are edible when cooked and are an excellent in curries. Ripe seeds and young roots can be roasted and added to curries. The flowers can bear dried and used in bread or as part of “five flower tea.” Edible fatty oil can be obtained from the seeds which are 22-25% oil. Tap-root in peeled and eaten raw or roasted. Young bark is used as a kind of famine food in emergencies and it also helps settle the stomach.

The seed oil can be used in soaps. Trees can be planted for quick growth when restoring natural woodlands, also makes a nice shade tree in the garden. The cotton can be used to stuff expensive pillows and cushions as its considered “vermin proof.” It’s also waterproof and buoyant. It also provides good insulation to keep things cool, it makes good packing material to protect fragile items. Fibre from the inner bark can be wound into rope. The gum is mixed with ash and and castor oil to make a kind of cement for caulking iron saucepans. It can be hollow out and used for canoes and is often used to make matches, pencils, and toys, boxes kitchen utensils or other construction materials like plywood. Some tribals use it to make musical instruments.

Male Deer (some say the Hare)

Pairs with the female deer of Anuradha.

Deer rely heavily on the use of smell which becomes especially important in mating season as they leave their sent either by pawing the ground and urinating or by ruling their head, neck, antlers on trees or eventually their mate. Several different lands play their role in this. The scent gives deer information about the sex and reproductive state of the other deer.

Most species of deer are polygamous, though there is one species of Water Deer in China that sometimes pair-bond and defend their territory together. Otherwise, the dominant male   beats up on the other males and herds his females together and mates with them one after the other as they become fertile and receptive. It’s actually only a small portion of the male deer population that is able to successfully mate; most remain brahmacharya. The dominant male with the harem will occasionally get challenged by other males, nobody gets seriously hurt in the contest, but the winner does get the harem. The Red Deer is especially famous for the great contest at rutting season when all the males come together in “the arena” and compete for the best plots of land, which is typically in the middle of the territory to give them access to all the females. The less dominant males will typically stay out of the fight and thus end up out at the edges and border land of the herds territory. The female will typically go to the dominant male when she is ready.

In some species, such as the Elk, males will mate with a succession of females; mating with one when she is receptive and then moving on to the next one when she is not. There can be fierce fights for each female.

See Anuradha for female deer and information about pregnancy, childbirth, and mothering style.

Auspicious Activities

A sharp, hard, cruel, fierce nakshatra, but sattvic, pure and level. Don’t expect this to the a pleasant day, but it’s a good day to even the score. Can be an excellent day for the underdog to rise up; if things look hopeless Moon transiting Jyeshta is your day to rise and win. The wold needs a hero, be that hero. On the negative side, it’s a good do to get revenge, to hit your enemy where they least expect it. Very good day for removing any kind of obstacle, but not a good day to obstruct anything. Parikramas, or circumnabulations, are directly referenced by Jyeshta, but euphemistically “driving around town,” or “I’ll be around” can also be successfully performed. Jyeshta can also be a lazy day, in which case it might be life which is kicking you to move. Indra loves his Soma so just go for a beer, look for some inspiration.

It’s good day to stir the pot, make butter, bake. Shake things up somehow; do something different, something you’ve always wanted to do. Jyeshta is a day to go for it. Test your will against the world, perform some difficult tapas, burn; break ground in any kind of building project, have a scientific break-through, deal with a bunch of “shit’ that you’ve been avoiding. Jyeshta is not a pleasant nakshatra, but its activity is purifying and cleansing as it removes any impurities. A good Jyeshta transit can leave you feeling satisfied, as the day wanes take rest, award yourself or those who have faced the day as heroes and rest satisfied in a job well done.

Special Considerations
  • Jyeshta is a Ganda-Moola nakshatra It sits on a junction point of fire and water. It’s inauspicious. A special ceremony is recommended every month when the moon transits one’s natal Moon in these nakshatra. Jyeshta is always hunting dragons and looking to be the hero so this tends to start in the family. All pada of Jyeshta will bring trouble from one place or another. 1 elder brother, 2 younger brothers 3. Mother 4 one’s own self.
  • The Sun typically passes through Jyeshta in the first half of December. The Gita Jayanti & Dattatreya Jayanti is usually celebrated at this time. This year Gita Jayanti falls on 3 December 2022 & Dattatreya Jayanti is on Dec 22, 2022.

Jyeshta Careers

Jyeshta natives often do the jobs nobody else wants to do. In many ways, their service is sacrificing themselves for everyone else’s comfort. When it’s tough job, but someone has to do it, it’s usually a Jyeshta; they take all the worst kinds of job in whatever field they are in. When you need someone to “take care of business,” call in a Jyeshta. They are good at being the boss or the executive making difficult decisions. When you’re on there right side of a jyeshta they will do anything for you, but if you get on their bad side, watch out cause they will put the same passion, the same heart of a scorpion into destroying their enemies as they will protecting their brethren. They like to take positions that allow them to do this.

They are often bosses, managers, or self employed; since they typically know best, they don’t do well in subordinate jobs. They have a powerful faculty for critical thinking and do well in critical situations. The setting for Jyeshta is always churning, purifying, testing, agitated and nobody really knows what will come out of it; or what will rise up from the bottom. Jyeshta’s can be called in to shake things up; or churn things up. They can be very productive but their energy fluctuates. After a heroic output of energy they need to rest and recharge so their work is usually not steady. They might change jobs often, work in jobs that allow then to express both sides of their personality: the powerful force of will that overcomes anything; and an equally powerful laziness that isn’t moving for anything.

Fields that involve investigation, detection, diagnostics, strategy or tactics are suitable for jyeshta natives. They can be good in politics, policing, counselling, health care, building and engineering, seasonal work, piece-work, contract work. They usually take very good care of those who are in the inner circle and nepotism can be a problem. They don’t take advice or criticism very well so they can be quite decisive, spitting the world between us and them.

The Mercurial side of Jyeshta makes them good writers, story-tellers, editors, researchers, messengers, signallers investigative journalists. They often work in the shadows which can lead them to occultism, astrology, tantra, shamanism and other mystical fields. We find a great deal of prophetic messaging for Jyeshta natives. They can be easily seduced by black magic, supernatural phenomena or even aliens. And I hate to point out that Jyeshta is all about probing, so be careful. Jyeshta natives rarely follow the status quo. They tend to understand that there is more to anything than meets the eye and often time the true nature of their work is invisible to others. It could be that their work is literally deep underground, or maybe people just don’t understand how they come by their knowledge. It’s often the case that Jyeshta natives do not have normal prerequisite for the position they hold; but they are either the best at it or nobody else will take the job, so what can be done. They tend to have a very unique set of talents that allows them to succeed in many fields.

Summary

“He is no hero who never met the dragon, or who, if he once saw it, declared afterwards that he saw nothing. Equally, only one who has risked the fight with the dragon and is not overcome by it wins the hoard, the “treasure hard to attain.”

 – Carl Jung —

If we’re being honest then we have to say that Jyeshta folks are kind-of jerks, the don’t play very nicely with others and they think they know everything there is to know. The problem is that we have to be nice to them because they will do all those things that nobody else will do. And although we might not like them in a personal way, we love to watch a Jyeshta native at work; they’re so inspiring; how do they do it? They are natural teachers and they tend to learn in a natural way as well. You just have to watch and learn. Everything they even need is always right there with them and they always seem to have a life-line for when things go sideways; and they often do. They love to stir things up and stick their nose where it doesn’t belong. You can’t tell them anything so you might well just let them go and leave the porch light on so they can find their way home afterwards.

They tend to have very powerful foresight, they’re natural chess players planing 10 moves ahead while everyone else is focused on the now. Jeanne d’Arc’s prophecies had the power of Jyeshta behind them. It’s almost like they are living in their own world that has little to do with this physical realm the rest of us are focused on and there often seems to be little rhyme or reason for their actions; but if you just watch and wait, you’ll see. Something will come bubbling up from god only knows where… And the great hero saves the day again.

They love praise and they can be a sucker for a pretty smile. They’ll make a fool of themselves often; especially in love. They can be very protective and possessive and they don’t let go of things easy. Any slights against them will churn in their mind over and over until they release it; usually in the form of revenge. Jyeshta natives don’t forget or forgive easily. They tend to suffer from a lot of criticism themselves. Many of their ideas are so far out there that you can’t help but ridicule them. The challenge Jyeshta natives face is just to take this criticism and keep on their path, complete their mission and show the world that they are not crazy. Though by most standards of society, they are crazy and often times even their accomplishment confirm this. But they are crazy like a fox so their exploits also arouse awe. When you are asking yourself, who would ever do something like that?, you can rest assured it was a Jyeshta.

Jyeshta natives have to face their fears, they are often masters of psychology, mystery and secrets. They are capable of tapping into the divine will that gives them Siddhis or superhuman capabilities.

Stars of Jyeshta

Antares (A Scorpii): “the rival of Mars.” A bright red star near the heart of the scorpion. The 15th brightest star. It’s a massive star whose size is said to vary by about 20% through a kind of pulsation. On May 31 of each year, this star is directly across from the sun, rising as the sun sets.

Other Names for this star have been: “Lord of the Seed”, “Creator of Prosperity”, “The King”, “The Hero”, “second star of the heart.” The Maori considered it to be the chief of all the stars and the father of Relegus.

The Sun crosses Anteres somewhere around December 1, but 2000 years ago this was much closer to December 20th which marked the beginning of the Winter Solstice and Christmas. So Jesus was likely born when the Sun was in Jyeshta. Many islanders in the south saw Antares and Scorpio as a fish hook that pulled up the land from the depth of the sea. Antares was known as one of the regents and guardian of the intergalactic directions along with Aldebaran in Taurus – Bharani; Relegus in Leo – Magha & Formalhaut in Pisces

Scorpio + Mercury: Whenever I see Mars and Mercury making a connection I think “cut &  measure.” Depending on the chart this can be applied to the spiritual path, in the intellectual realm, or in the physical world. In Scorpio all this energy is applied in the deep, much of it is turned inward. Accounts for the unknown and the unexpected. Expect the unexpected; but they often don’t just expect it, they take account for it. They measure the depth, grade, and elevation. Unexpected messages, secret messages, deep intimate communication.

Ascendant in Jyeshta

Female native: “…independent self-sufficient , capable, dignified, proud. If she is not born in a wealthy or well-to-do family, she will herself become wealthy through her own efforts. In such case, her family will be dependent on her and she will be recognised as the head of the family. She is careful and canny regarding money matters. Being proud, she has a tendency to dramatise herself and secretly glories in being the pivot or centre around which her family affairs revolve. She will, at some time in her life, occupy a very influential position and be greatly respected.”

Male Native: ”A dark and sensitive nature, superficially religious, but are hypocrites at heart. On the surface they are respectable, law abiding citizens, ostensible church-goers, but secretly their morals are loose and their tempers passionate. Smooth, oily, and suave to all appearances, they carry in their hearts schemes and thoughts which might not stand the light of day.”

Pada 1: Sagittarius Navamsha: Their mission in life often relates with gaining higher knowledge, deeper faith, more inclusive humanism or a global reach. The might spearhead some kind of faith based revolution.

The moon is still considered debilitated Natives with moon in Jyeshta are jerks, know it alls, lordly, proud and arrogant. They are typically comfortable precisely when everyone else its uncomfortable, so sometimes they make it happen. They have incredible psychological depth and they will use this to stir things up. They only want you to look at yourself, look at what you’ve become and perhaps reconsider your choices. Why do they have to be like this: just blurting out the most inappropriate thing at the moist inappropriate times. They don’t like to feel like they have no control. If you’re close to a Jyeshta, its best to talk to them about making changes in your life or they will become offended. And whatever you do, don’t tell a Jyeshta what to do; its’s the quickest way to offend them. They always know best, so do your best to make them think it was their idea: they love that. They are also suckers for flattery so don’t be shy about buttering them us before asking them for favours.

They can be very self-sacrificing. They needs heart and soul, they need to be all in, they need a bit of danger in life. They typically face many ups and downs that are completely their own doing. And they know this, they are usually ready for the sacrifice before they even open their mouth. All of nothing in one roll of the dice: now that’s exciting. They need to feel their heart beat; they need to feel the heartbeat of the universe.

They can also be very protective and jealous; they can also have a lot of jealousy directed at them. It’s just the atmosphere they often find themselves in. Like Ashlesha, Jyeshta can be like a den of snakes with danger lurking around e era corner. This can also trigger a bit of paranoia, but moon in jyeshta is always boiling inside, always agitated in some way, and they usually act before they have really thought things through. They mostly act by faith, leading from some internal feeling that seems to have little to do with reality, but something the future does vindicate them. They are usually misunderstood and tend to mess up a good thing when they have it and thus end up spending a lot of time alone. Besides, they’re no-it-alls who can talk a lot, but aren’t very good at listening. Sometime one has to wonder: what’s the point in even trying to have a reasonable conversation with a Moon in Jyeshta.

They can be incredibly inspiring and they will do everything that no one else wants to do. They tend to be heroes who swoop in at the last moment and save the day. When all else fails call your Jyeshta friend. It’s also better to keep Jyeshta’s close rather than make them into an enemy. They are very protective of friends and deadly to enemies. They will work sick or injured and not tell anyone; they will sacrifice everything for others and never say a word (until you cross them and they figure they can sting you by telling how much they sacrificed for you. They can be manipulative like that, just usually their passionate and angry ways work against them somehow.  They seek to achieve psychological superiority and control things from the background rather than get directly involved.

The classics tell us that natives with moon in Jyeshta are very ill-tempered, cruel, lying, libidinous, addicted to women not his own, lordly, wealthy, content, interested in meritorious deeds and just. They suffer heavy expenditure, will endure much grief, will curse others, and will not have many friends. They will be exceedingly irritable but they will have a strong sense of responsibility.

Pada 1, Sagittarius Navamsha:  Writers, scholars, writers, witty, pleasant faced, sexy and attractive to the opposite sex. Good conversationalists, who like to go deep. They usually have some kind of knowledge of psychology and philosophy. They are liked by all, interested in discussion of the scriptures and happy. They will work hard for knowledge and will work incredibly hard to do things right; they will sacrifice everything on principle. Elder siblings or the relationship with them can suffer with this placement.

Pada 2, Capricorn Navamsha:  Authority figures, the ones who accept responsibility. They can be controlling and confrontational but are usually trying to do the right thing, but they can also be protective and jealous, selfish and vengeful. They can often be relied on to do forbidden jobs, or the work that nobody else wants to do. It’s can be a dirty job, but someone has to do it. On the other hand they can also be lazy, sick, idle, cruel, fickle, stingy, and hated by people for the trouble they can create. Planets here can also harm the younger brother.

Pada 3, Aquarius Navamsha:  They are usually professional people, good citizens, and helpful to the weak and elderly. They might, however, suffer from continuous diseases, pain in their body and problems with vision, and many jealousies. They none-the-less enjoy some happiness in life. They often have a darker complexion with thick rough hairs. Planets here can harm the mother.

Pada 4, Pisces Navamsha:  Can cause hearing problems and diseases of the ear. They are typically learned in scriptures, respectful of the gods, and live a pious life. They are knowledgeable, peaceful, wealthy, kind and generous. They can be self sacrificing, taking on many miseries, They typically have sex at a young age and continually seek to satisfy their  desire for intimacy. They might live a kind of fantasy life  disconnected from reality. They are often emotional and suffer much in love and sacrifice for their beloved.

Mars in Jyeshta

“Every little thing that people know about you as a person impedes your ability to achieve that kind of terrific suspension of disbelief that happens when an audience goes with an actor and character he’s playing.” — Edward Norton

“None get to God but through trouble.” “I choose what I believe, and say nothing. For I am not as simple as I may seem.” — Catherine of Aragon

“We also have to work, though, sort of the dark side, if you will. We’ve got to spend time in the shadows in the intelligence world. A lot of what needs to be done here will have to be done quietly, without any discussion, using sources and methods that are available to our intelligence agencies… That’s the world these folks operate in, and so it’s going to be vital for us to use any means at our disposal, basically, to achieve our objective.” — Dick Cheney

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” — Christopher Reeve

“If you know you are going to fail, then fail gloriously.” “You learn an enormous lot through failure.” “The word ‘circumnavigate’ is quite a beautiful word.” “What you’re trying to do as an actor is somehow trick yourself into believing that these words have never been said, and so you’ve got to discover them for the first time.” “When you fall in love with someone, you’re not really changing at all. You’re really just reliving something that already happened at some point.” — Cate Blanchett

“Oh god, I wish. I really wish. If I’m time-poor, which I usually am, that’s the first thing to go. And I know it shouldn’t be, I know I should be really regular, but I like to get it done as quickly as possible.” — Cate Blanchett

“For me, my 20s were all about reaching for the brass ring of work in theatre, television, and film, surviving in between by waiting tables, painting houses, serving coffee, and temping.” “I have always been the girl who keeps on trying. I try! I try!” — Kate Walsh

“The less people know about what is really going on, the easier it is to wield power and authority.” — Prince Charles

This is one of the most powerful positions for Mars. It’s not at all comfortable as one seeks power and prestige through their actions, but it is the most honest heroes quest. They don’t just talk about it and do a bit a verbal jousting like Mercury in Jyeshta, nor are they seeking emotional conquest on the psychological level like debilitated Moon; they take action, they do it. Some say Mars is the most honest of all the planets because he does things, he acts them out, he brings them to reality. He is a very close relative of the earth element; the earth is the plane of activity unlike most of the other planets which function through the higher tattva.

Mars in Jyeshta go out and complete adventure that most people, even themselves, think are impossible but they do them in a humble way thinking that “if I can do it; any one can do it.” They are the true heroes and adventure seekers, the everyday people who rise above everything and undertake impossible quests like slaying the dragon, recovering the Amrita from the bottom of the ocean, or penetrating the firmest defence. They are not Knights in Shining Armour saving the day for glory and attention like the kings of Purva Phalguni or Leo; they are not the great champions of Krittika seeking reward, or the burdened warriors of Bharani who have to face up to past life karma. They do not have this ego and pizzaz of Aries or Leo. Jyeshta’s want the competition, the most dangerous thing you can say to a Jyeshta is: “You can never do that” because no matter how crazy it might seem, they will go out and do just that. They don’t go around bragging about they conquests, it’s enough for them to know that they did it. From this they get a deep inner power and confidence that they can face anything in life. And with this kind of confidence who cares what anyone thinks: Jyeshta natives know, and their confidence is ground in that knowledge. There’s no bullshit to a Mars in Jyeshta.

Of course this doesn’t make them very pleasant to be around all the time and they are often misunderstood; but this might be part of their strategy to conquer others, conquer society. Can you imagine some average looking dude strutting around like he’s the boss, moving with confidence. Always doing something that’s a bit mysterious, nobody really knows what he’s up but he’s often doing it right there in front of everyones. Such a mystery about what they are doing, in their activities, in the way they move and the ease with which they challenge others. If you need a hero, you need a Mars in Jyeshta; but if you’re looking for someone to be reasonable, you’ll have to look elsewhere in the zodiac.

They may have grown up in fierce competition with an elder sibling, so it was a kind of stiff competition; like a great dragon against whom they really had no hope, but they prevailed. They can be extremely productive, pulling incredible feats of strength and courage; but they can also be incredibly lazy, which can often give them a bit of a paunch in their later years. They can be excellent multitaskers, measure their every move, but they have to be fully involved in something or not at all. Jyeshta is the heart of the scorpion so whatever these folks are doing their will do with their heart, with passion that comes from deep within them. Indra’s mount in the Elephant, they can be tough to get going, but once they’re going they can be hard to stop.

These natives can play, dumb or act simple, their greatest strength is in having the opponent underestimate them. In many ways you could say that they actively deceive the world. This is different than the Moon in Jyeshta which seeks emotional superiority. Mars achieves superiority through his actions, but he still does in typically Jyeshta fashion using deceit and tricky. Nobody would ever guess what these Mars in Jyeshta folks are capable of.

They can be very productive and are almost always busy doing something. They typically have excellent physical coordination due, at least partially, to the Mercury rulership of Jyeshta which makes them very strategic in the moves they make. They typically have full command of their body and of their senses. This can make them seem a little stiff at times, but this is usually not the case. Like all Jyeshta placements, it can be hard for anyone to really see them clearly or know who they really are just by looking. Mars rules over form so these natives tend to use this to their strategic advantage. In some ways, the mystery itself becomes the weapon.

Superman, Christopher Reeve has Mars in Jyeshta. The Crash Test Dummies wrote the “Superman Song” that does a lot to explain this Mars in Jyeshta. In many ways Superman in the king of all the Heroes. Although he did have his weakness and Jyeshta folks also have theirs: often it’s the opposite sex, but their passion in general can be used against them. In any case, here’s the relevant lyrics form the Superman Song: “Clark Kent, now there was a real gent… Superman never made any money, Savin’, the world from Solomon Grundy…. Sup had a straight job, Even though he could have smashed through any bank in the United States. He had the strength, but he would not… Folks said, his family were all dead: Planet crumbled, but Superman he forced himself to carry on, forget Krypton, and keep goin’…. Sometimes, when Sup was stoppin’ crimes, I’ll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back on man, join Tarzan in the forest. But he stayed in the city, kept on changing cloths in dirty old phone-booths till his work was through, had nothing to do but go on home…. Sometimes I despair the world will never see another man, like him…” — Crash Test Dummies

Some might say that Christopher Reeve was himself a superman figure: power, handsome, highly educated, but now in a wheel chair for something they call a hang-man fracture; which itself alludes to the coiled snake. If you’ve seen a hangman’s noose you’ll quickly recognise the similarities. There’s a space within the coils that is especially protected, if you try to go there, the snake will kill you. Mars in Jyeshta natives can be the snake protecting its eggs, or the one putting his head in the noose by going after those eggs. But Jyeshta’s are accident prone generally; it comes with the territory.

Remember when you were kids and a small group of you would get some stupid idea and then someone would ask: “Who’s first.” It was a Jyeshta who stepped up to the plate. It’s not like there is a line up of people to go off and face the dragon. And again, Mars in Jyeshta is not some metaphorical dragon; it’s evil and unsurmountable obstacles of this world that can kill us in this world. Mars isn’t into metaphors. They are literally prepared to sacrifice their life to principle, to opening a path for others to follow.

But again they are no ordinary hero; they are often the anti-hero. The one who does everything backwards but still wins in the end. Think of the boxer who lets his opponent pound the hell out of him, but then wins the bout and says: “I was just letting him tire himself out.” They will win the war by retreating, drawing the snake out of his coil, of the dragon out of his den. He uses mystery and curiosity to draw his opponents to him. He will expose the bully by allowing himself to be bullied. He will set things up so that the opponent destroys himself.

And since they are so much about the mystery, they rarely feel like they have to explain themselves, which tends to sow confusion making it difficult for them to work for other or account for what they have been doing. They, themselves, often don’t know why they do what they do and they certainly don’t feel like they never have to explain themselves, but in the mean time their activities sowing confusion and catch people off guard. “I didn’t see that coming.”

Just look at these people like Catherine of Aragon or Edward Norton. Norton could have done his prison movies like a typical actor, but he dove into the role and stayed in the prison. He literally became the character. And then we find this quote by Norton: Popularity is the slutty little cousin of prestige, my friend.” This almost seem to exalt Alakshmi with prestige, while Lakshmi becomes the cheap whore trying to win the popularity contest. Mars in Jyeshta will sacrifice themselves in order to do things right regardless of what people expect of them. Actually, they will almost always do the opposite of what is expected of them and they can be contrary and non-compliant. They will find themselves in many tight spots, but they always come out of it: maybe broken, battered and bruised, but they get up and are ready to do it again. Like most Jyeshta placements it’s their pride that get hurt the most. It also common for these natives to be proficient with weapons, fire, steel, knives, martial arts… They are truly “no pain, no gain” type warriors: pain heals. They can also be the type of person who counts the slights against them: 1, 2, 3 and bam the prey just walks into the trap all on their own. But they have to be careful not to walk into such traps themselves. Their laziness can be a way of recharging their energy before going off on another exploit.

Chamatkar Chintamani Mars in Scorpio: “The native is industrious, practical, scientific in approach, firm and positive, indifferent to others. Diplomatic. Successful chemist, result orientated, sudden or violent accidents. If afflicted the native is unfriendly, unsociable and selfish. Trouble through service. With Sun aspecting the native enjoys health, wealth and happy family life. High status: a judge, an army officer, a surgeon, or an engineer of repute showing enterprise and confidence. Moon’s aspect makes him more sportive and electric. Success in every business involving outdoor activity. Motherless. More daughters than sons. Aspect from Mercury grants dexterity and precision in work. Jupiter gives eloquence and strengthens chances of legacy; big business magnate. Devoted to parents. Aspect from Venus makes him amorous, gives him capacity to earn more, but he is not acquisitive. Saturn makes him unfriendly and drives him towards debauchery.”

Pada

Mars in Jyeshta Pada 1, Sagittarius Navamsha: World travellers, philosophical warriors, acting on principle and often doing things because they are the right thing to do. Roaming can be like a religion for these people. Later in life they can put on weight.

Mars in Jyeshta Pada 2, Capricorn Navamsha: Mars is exalted in this navamsha. They maintain a powerful physique though their true power remains hidden

Mars in Jyeshta Pada 3, Aquarius Navamsha: Structural specialists. Greater support for scientific work and activism. They can occasionally make big profits through their secret activities.

Mars in Jyeshta Pada 4, Pisces Navamsha: Gandanta. Can bring out more passive aggressive tendencies. Planets in this 4th pada become very unpredictable in a dangerous way. They can be very active manipulating thing behind the scenes. Their aggression is driven by a watery emotional nature and they acting for what they believe to be universal principles. Not only are their activities mysterious, but they are mostly conducted behind closed doors. They might also have some sexual fetishes with this placement.

Mercury in Jyeshta

“Some words when spoken, can’t be taken back.” — Eddie Vedder

“The smallest oceans still make big waves.” — Eddie Vedder

“We need poets to change the world.” — Justin Trudeau (Mercury in Jyeshta conjunct Jupiter with Saturn & Ketu aspecting. Jupiter gives a strong ideological bent to his communication, Saturn seeks to restrict free speech, and Ketu aspect makes most of what he said hollow and meaningless.)

“I’ve learned. Every organisation needs somebody standin’ out front. Call it a figure head , a leader, a headman, a kingpin, a president, whatever. It doesn’t much matter to me who does it.” — Lucky Luciano (Mercury in Jyeshta with four plants

“We are men and our lot in this life is to learn and to be hurled into inconceivable new worlds.” “Man goes to knowledge as he goes to war, wide awake, with fear, with respect, and with absolute assurance.” “ I would say that the best of us  always comes out when we are against  the wall and we feel the sword dangling over our head.” “Nothing can temper the spirit of the warrior as much as the challenge of dealing with impossible people in positions of power. Only under those conditions can warriors acquire the sobriety and serenity to withstand the pressure of the unknowable.” “A warrior takes his lot, whatever it may be, and accepts it in the ultimate humbleness. He accepts humbleness as what he is, not as a grounds of regret but as a living challenge.” “Only a warrior can survive the path of knowledge because the art of being a warrior is to balance the terror of being a man with the wonder of being a man.” “The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge while an ordinary man takes everything as a blessing or a curse.” “To seek the perfection of the warrior’s spirt in the only task worthy of our temporariness, our manhood.” “The hardest thing in the world is for a warrior to let others be.” — Carlos Castaneda

“The man who has the will to undergo all labour may win to any good.”“Be thou comforted, little dog, Thou too in Resurrection shall have a little golden tail.” — Martin Luther

“Any film about heroism: the triumph of good over evil. If you look back at my films , you will see that as a reoccurring theme.”“Cinema should always be in touch with the soul of the country. My film celebrate the heartland of India.” — Salman Khan

They make good lawyers, communication management specialist, journalists, speakers or preachers, story tellers, songwriters. Mercury can be a little immature and deceptive, using words and ideas to stir up trouble. Like Ted Turner, the media mogul who started CNN and things like the cartoon channel said: “I wanted to better inform the world.” Turner has his ascendant and Mercury in Jyeshta conjunct Sun & Venus in Scorpio so he had a very powerful quest involving media, journalism, communications and these kinda of things. He also said: “I didn’t care how much adversity life threw at me. I intended to get to the top.” This is the spirit of Jyeshta, the Mars energy is supported by the Indra energy. But with powerful mercury in his own nakshatra this quest is brought into Mercuries sphere of activity. And we need not forget that Mars and Mercury are both war planets. Mercury is the natural ruler of Virgo and the 6th house and Mars is the natural warrior so we can easily make for information warfare. We find another quote by Ted Turner to be relevant on this topic: “War has been good to me from a financial standpoint but I don’t want to make money that way. I don’t want blood money.”

Martin Luther, with Mercury in Jyeshta conjunct Sun in Scorpio, warned us about information warfare back in the 15th century when he commented on the public school system. “I’m afraid that the school will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the heart of the youth.” People with Mercury in Jyeshta also make good preachers and speakers capable of drumming up a lot of passion. Especially,, as Martin Luther point out: “When I’m angry I can pray well and preach well.” Or “Grant that I may not pray alone with the mouth, help me that I may pray from the depths of my heart.”

In so far as Jyeshta seeks prestige, Carlos Castaneda tells us that “Power rests on the kind of knowledge one holds. What is the sense of knowing things that are useless.” Ted Turner also commented on prestige in the news business when he said, “If you had the most prestige and you were the network that everybody turned to in a crisis, that that was the most important position in the news business, to hold.” And of course the path to prestige is to do what everyone tells you that you can’t do. Ted turner again reminds us that “All [his] life people have said that [he] wasn’t going to make it.” He goes on to tell us how a Mercury in Jyeshta overcomes and makes it to the top; first he says: “There’s no point sitting around crying about spilt milk. Gotta move on.” And then: “I’ve never run into a guy who could win at the top level in anything today and didn’t have the right attitude, didn’t give it everything he had, at least while he was doing it; wasn’t prepared and didn’t have the whole program worked out.” Howard Hughs also talked about the nay sayers: “Do the impossible because almost everyone has told me my ideas are merely fantacies.”

Any placement in Jyeshta will be infused with a lot of pride and a bit of conceit: “If I only had a little humility, I would be perfect” (Ted Turner). “I am by nature a perfectionist, and I seem to have trouble allowing anything to go through in a half-perfect condition. So if I make any mistake it was in working too hard and in doing too much of it with my own hands” (Howard Hughes). “I have to play everything just perfectly. I can’t take less of myself. I’m strong. I’m prepared” (Gordon Lightfoot).

And it may be the immaturity of Mercury in Jyeshta that comes up with statements like LGBTQ activist , Hunter Schafer’s claim that, “We are on the forefront of a revolution and expression will take priority over the labels assigned to us at birth, in which self-identification will take priority over perception, in which gender will fall away entirely.” And Neil Young who recently sacrificed himself on his crusade against Joe Rogan on Spotify, once said, “I don’t like to be labeled, to be anything. I’ve made the mistake before myself of labelling my music, but it’s counter productive.”

Like Ann Coulter, they like to wade into controversy, say the things no one else will say, or even rush to be the first person to say what everyone sees but is not talking about. She point out that: “I am the illegal alien of commentary. I will do the jokes that no one else will do.” And: “A word to those of you out there who have yet to be offended by something I have said: Please be patient. I’m working as fast as I can.” And of course they like to win the argument even if it means fighting a weaker opponent. Jyeshta often has to watch that they don’t become bullies; in the case of Mercury in Jyeshta they can bully people with their words, ideas, logic, media. Ann Coulter puts it right out there when she admits: “I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am.”

There is also a chance they come off as preachy, because, like other nakshatra placements, Mercury in Jyeshta knows better than everyone else. Hunter Schafer, with no small amount of pride (pun intended) said about her work that, “No matter what I’ve worked on or what art practices I’ve delved into, they’ve always been an attempt to world-build.” And Neil Young should probably look back on this quote, cause he has been sounding a little preachy lately:“I have so many opinions about everything it just comes out during my music. It’s a battle for me. I try not to be preachy. Thats the real danger.” Neil Young might want to take advice from Eddie Vedder about how to properly defeat ones enemy: “You kill yourself and you make a big old sacrifice and try to get your revenge. That all you’re gonna end up with is a paragraph in a newspaper. In the end, it does nothing. Nothing changes. The world goes on and you’re gone. The best revenge is to live on and prove yourself.”

Schafer and Young seem to be following Howard Hughs business strategy: “Play off everyone against each other so that you have more avenues of action open to you.” But even Lucky Luciano was smarter than that. He once gave a lesson to the boys with a little story which kinda reminds us that Jyeshta can also have a bit of a revolving door: “Don’t worry, Joe. Maybe you know it was gonna happen to me, maybe you didn’t. But by the old way of doing things… If I became boss right now. I’d have to hit you in case you knew. And all of you shrug, except some of you are friends of Joe’s. And one day I might do something that upsets you, so then you’ll hit me. And the YOU”LL become boss. My friends will hate you for that. Then somebody else becomes boss, and so  on, and on… You know what I call that? Stupid. Very stupid… We’re all boss here.”

Carlos Castaneda has many wise words of the Jyeshta native. We also find a strong current of mysticism and shamanism in his writing. About success he says: “If one must succeed in anything the success must come gently, with a great deal of effort but with no stress of obsession.” The kind of effort we need to make is highlighted by Canadian singer song writer Gordon lightfoot who said, “Every time you wanted to do something, you’d hope it would score. You’d keep trying and trying and all of a sudden , something would come out of left field , like “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” No one hand any idea about that one.” Howard Hughes probably takes it too far when he said, “Passion will make you crazy; but is there any other way to live.” He was one of the richest men in the world, so who am I to contradict him. You don’t get that rich without being a bit of a jerk: “We don’t have a monopoly. Anyone who wants to dig a well without a Hughes bit can always use a pick and shovel.”

Swami Satchidananda Saraswati also makes reference to digging, diving and drilling of this Scorpio placement: “There is no value in digging shadow wells in 100 places. Decide on on e place and dig deep. Even if you encounter rock, use dynamite and keep going down. If you leave that to dig another well, all the first effort is wasted and there is no proof you won’t hit rock again.” And communing again on what lies deep and what arises from the depths Swami Satchidananda also said, “Yoga says instinct is a trace of an old experience that has been repeated many times and the impressions have sunk down to the bottom of the mental lake. Although they go down, they aren’t completely erased. Don’t think you ever forget anything. All experience are stored in the Chittam; and, when the proper atmosphere is created, they come to the surface again. When we do something several times it forms a habit. Continue with that habit for a long time and it becomes your character. Continue with your character and eventually, perhaps in another life, it comes up as instinct.”

Aside from the difficulty and struggles to reach the top, Mercury in Jyeshta people face similar problems in relationships as many other Jyeshta placements as their passion is for media and communication rather than relationships. Swami Satchidananda Saraswati, with Mercury in Jyeshta, tells that “At various points in our lives, or on our quest, and for reasons that often remain obscure, we are driven to make decisions which prove, with hindsight, to be loaded with meaning.” These discussions are inspired and don’t usually involve the partners, which of course can build resentment. Eddie Vedder tells us about the truest “love,” which is impossible love.  “It’s a song abut first relationships and letting go. It’s very rare for a relationship to withstand the earths gravitational pull and where it’s going to take people and how they’re going to grow. I’ve heard it said that you can’t really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. It’s a harsh one, because then your truest one is the one you can’t have forever.” Lucky Luciano is blunt when he said, “I don’t have a wife because emotion is dangerous.”

Speech can also be a kind of defence mechanism causing them to talk too much or ramble as a way of trying to control or dominate a conversation. Like other Jyeshta placements they can be control freaks. They are not particularly diplomatic in the their communication style, usually blunt. And due to their habit of charging into a conversation, and perhaps is contrast to their perfectionism they do make mistake. They are intelligent with an intense communication style but sometimes cloudy thoughts. Ted Turner reminds us that, in his words, “I’m a very good thinker, but I sometimes grab the wrong word. I say something I didn’t think through adequately. I mean, I don’t type my speeches, then sit up there and read them off the teleprompter, you know. I wing it.” Just another Jyeshta on a crusade for power; nothing to see here folks.

They have no problem talking about taboo topics, that bluntness of the Mars and Indra.  They may be involved with conveying secrets or safety information, giving warnings about possible sudden events. We find many coaches, tutors, and teachers with Mercury in Jyeshta. A few yoga teachers, health nuts, life coach and these lower level teachers who seem to know what’s best for us also have Mercury places here. The house it’s in will often suggest the topic of their sermon. They can easily become over-bearing in meetings, workshops, and conversational settings. This quality can also make them good lawyers, activists or policy advisors with an excellent knowledge of rhetoric and the art of the argument.

It can also be noted that Jyeshta’s don’t really like to listen to others. This may be do to lack of attention, conceit or merely because of a hearing problem. Ted Turner once said: “I’m hard of hearing. I miss a lot. It’s really tough.” I  can certainly relate to this. I don’t have Mercury in Jyeshta, but I do have three significant placements in Jyeshta. And Jyeshta, like Ashlesha, has strong snake symbolism and snakes don’t have ears. Instead of heading they have a special sensitivity to atmosphere through their tongue and their skin.

Pada 1, Sagittarius Navamsha: They tend to espouse a strong ideology, lifelong students of philosophy. They can get tenure as teachers or professors. As politicians they can use emergency situation to ram through policy changes and maintain power. The message is first relates to scorpio so strong, powerful, penetrating, sudden, shocking, taboo, sexual or relates to life and death. Such messages, self narratives, logical pathways can make for very exciting reading. Transformation after transformation, tell all kind of books. The underlying message of that is spiritual a philosophical; humanistic, but also focused on policy path then law. Spiritual media.

Pada 2, Capricorn Navamsha: This is a good position for leaders of revolution, or leaders of changing times. All of that Scorpio stuff paves the path to leadership for these people; or at least that the story. Catastrophe or surprise attacks may be used to gain power at young age. One may be an immature leader. State media.

Pada 3, Aquarius Navamsha: Revolution in network communications. “The system is gonna chase.”

Pada 4, Pisces Navamsha: Mercury comes into debilitation in the navamsha. Which causes their story of what happened in the emergency to become a little scattered, This is not like the Saturn pada where Mercury gives a linear story; in Pisces Pada there can be some confusion, lacking the linear, disconnected and possibly a little fanciful. It’s not necessarily that they lie, but their minds record feelings, and can fall into believing what they think happened. This can be like over-hearing two people in another room and completely misunderstanding. Maybe events happen in a similar way. Propaganda and miscommunication can also be involved. “All is lost anyways.”

Jupiter in Jyeshta

This is a strong position for higher academia: Philosophers, professors, judges, lawyers, preachers. They like to stir the intellectual pot; there is typically something revolutionary in what they teach. Copernicus is an excellent example of this pot stirring since he not only stored the pot but put the Sun at the centre of the universe. Jyeshta has much to to with the nucleus around which everything else moves. Other philosophers and thinkers with this placement exalted independent human action and using reason to establish moral moral values rather than blindly following authority, reestablished dogma or popular ideals. They often take their own path in regards to their beliefs. Krishnamacharya strongly emphasised that we have to teach what is appropriate to the individual. They also tend to attract and surround themselves with people who agree with them, leaving their beliefs and ideas unchallenged. This can, of course stifle their philosophical growth: like the philosophy professor working all the time with students and rarely meeting with peers who rich challenge them.

These folks like to challenge others, but they don’t like to be challenged themselves. They don’t believe in listening to or following authority, until they are themselves the authority, then everyone must listen. They also have a tendency to practice nepotism, using their power to do favours for friends. They might also find themselves regurgitating the same thing over and over again; again, like a professor teaching the same topics year after year. It’s as if they only grow to a certain point and then that’s it.

This is a very prideful and lordly placement as it brings beliefs and ideals into the halls of power somehow. Politicians and judges with this placement can never act bi-partisan; these folks are always partisan. They can be incredibly destructive with the faith that they can “build back better.” They might be willing to risk life and death for spiritual and humanistic growth; diving in like crusader; a champion of a cause. But in their quests for the greater good inflict a lot of suffering. This might involve using fear or shocking ideologically motivated messages as a means to bring people to their side. It’s not just politicians of course: spiritual healers who are on a mission, politicians plotting behind our backs, bloated bureaucratic systems are all represented by Jupiter in Jyeshta.

Jupiter in Jyeshta is 12th from Sagittarius and 9th from Pisces. This draws energy away from his Sagittarius qualities of humanism as they pursue larger universal goals. What one “should do” gets lost in chasing after the greater mission.

Pada 1, Sagittarius Navamsha: They serve as messenger about the coming catastrophe of humanity, but their message is one of hope, optimism and global humanism. Some of the issues they face with Jupiter figure can however become overwhelming of over bearing. Their secret knowledge usually has a religious, spiritual or ideological side to it for which the orthodox wisdom keepers come down hard. They can also become idealists in preaching how things should be while having full knowledge about how things are. Usually liberal leaning; can get a little extremist when this is mixed with the hero worship. They can get too caught up in the ideology. Darshan Undirwadkar’ hero was Durga which is probably the highest expression of this ideological position.

Pada 2, Capricorn Navamsha: Jupiter is debilitated Navamsha. These folks run into a little more friction trying to exercise their ideology. They can can virtue signal in order to gain leadership positions. They can become unwitting crusaders for a cause; sticking their nose into places it doesn’t belong. Their hopes are often shattered and they tend to see some of the worst of mankind. All pada are giving out distress signals; but Jupiter in his debilitated pada seems to be the most hopeless placement.

Pada 3, Aquarius Navamsha: Messengers of the coming transformation of large systems. Populist mystics messengers who develop broad connections of close friends with who they have shared transformative experience or shared secrets or confidentialities. They might work as advisors within big systems like the criminal justice system or get caught up in such systems in some way in their life.

Pada 4, Pisces Navamsha: They tend to think their transformative beliefs or ideology should be universally applied. Although Jupiter is in his own navamsha here, this seems to be the most dangerous pada; especially if the person has some power. Not only does Pisces share the 5/9 angle in the main chart with Jupiter, but with Jupiter also in this Pisces pada, Pisces seem to grow all too powerful as they seek to apply universal principles of the soul to this external world where it does not apply.

Venus in Jyeshta

For me, a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its appearance changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere brings it to life – the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value.” — Claude Monet —

“The light constantly changes, and that alters the atmosphere and beauty of things every minute.” — Claude Monet —

“It’s on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly.” — Claude Monet —

“I want the unobtainable. Other artists paint a bridge, a house, a boat, and that’s the end. They are finished. I want to paint the air which surrounds the bridge, the house, the boat, the beauty of the air in which these objects are located, and that is nothing short of impossible.” — Claude Monet —

“A man of character finds a special attractiveness in difficulty, since it is only by coming to grips with difficulty that he can realize his potentialities.”  Charles de Gaulle

There’s a love of power, prestige and secrets. Power struggles, jealousy and possessiveness will almost always come to dominate relationships. They often want to prove their love through the struggle. They can be very manipulative and these are often the ones who will give you everything love, devotion, gifts as if from the goodness of the heart; but then when the other person doesn’t reciprocate they say: “after everything I’ve done for you.” The old phrase, “fighting for peace is like fucking for chastity” comes to mind with Jyeshta Venus.

There can be something a little bit sexually kinky about these folks: hidden liaisons, secret affairs, hidden cameras, prostitutes, pornography. If Rahu is involved they can get into all kinds of BDSM stuff. It can almost be like they are sexually possessed; and of course this is likely to get more and more intense as they age. They can easily fall into sado-masochistic roles or control and domination.

They  typically have a strong appreciation for shamanism, occult, tantra, secrets, black magic, aliens, mythical beasts, conspiracy theories and other such oddities might be prominently represented in their lives. They might even add some extra bling to their private parts (a tattoo or ear-ring). This can be the old cougar showing off her camel toe like it’s a badge of honour. They usually have no qualms about using sex to gain or express power. This is of course a game that is typically played differently by men and women.

Status anxiety and jealousy often comes to play with this placement. They want the wealth and possessions that others have, but they often don’t want to show it off. They like to keep their wealth secret and hidden: cash, gems, jewellery, art, offshore accounts and usually a fairly low profile. Venus is the master of the mask and the guru of the illusive qualities so from this perspective Venus does very well with secrets. But they can be easily seduced by secrets; when you get into these kinds of manipulative sex and power relationships it can be very difficult to know who it is that the true master of manipulation. Sure the old boss might want to express his power by conquering one of the young interns, but that intern also wants to reach the top by sleeping with the old boss.

Like other Jyeshta placements these folks are on a mission. In this case they want love and beauty and wealth. And if you get in their way they will run you over. They can also be very protective of what they have. And they might have to be, because they will often be surrounded by people who are jealous of what they have, others will covet it and try to take it away. Since this is Venus, there can be affairs. You might want the wives of others and others may be chasing after your wife. It’s like a game for some people. A man might keep all of his wealth hidden, but very often their sexy wife tends to show off the hidden assets.

Beauty is a discovery, it’s a quest that brings one ever deeper into life; it changes constantly. They can be very careful of the atmosphere. Sensual, seductive, and secretive in nature; they love the hero, of love being the hero in love. They might give and get a lot of unexpected messages of love and they are likely to have secret admirers everywhere. How can they not; they are incredibly sexy. They are on a quest for beauty, for love, or appreciation. There is a great appreciation for the mysterious, for occult attainment, for secrets. The women in a mans life can be a saviour. Typically somewhat regal women who command respect.

Marriage doesn’t come until after 30 years old. Spouse and the women in your life will have a strong sexual seductive energy. One may have been seduced by an elder sibling, women and sister figures may tend to be elder. Whatever house and human karaka Venus in Jyeshta is ruling over is likely to be a female with strong sex appeal: 7th lord will be the spouse, 120th lord will be the boss, 11th lord will be the friends network generally.

Saturn in Jyeshta

“My tribulations are so great, my life so disturbed by the plans daily invented to further the King’s wicked intention, the surprises which the King gives me, with certain persons of his council, are so mortal, and my treatment is what God knows, that it is enough to shorten ten lives, much more mine.” — Catherine of Aragon

Responsible for maintaining structure in chronic chaotic situations. It takes a long time for them to prove themselves and gain the kind of prestige that Jyeshta offers. Questions of life and death can weigh very heavy upon them and they might feel some responsibility for the death of someone close to them. They might have had very difficult childhoods and carry around a lot of guilt and repression relating with sexual matters. Possibly a position for post traumatic stress. Some very battle hardened warriors have this placement. There may be sustained transformation. They will have to work very hard to change; but they often do the work. They might face heavy consequences for being the hero. They are able to gain by taking on some of the most difficult leadership placements. They might get recognition for their sacrifices late in life.

Ketu in Jyeshta

The dragon they are called to slay often comes up as ghosts from the past. Allegations loosely founded on ancient history might rear up and insist that you face it. If and when you face it, it will usually crumble to dust. They have become ambivalent to cries for help, messages about sex death and transformation. Ketu can take away important parts of your life or your body. But they will turn you towards a more spiritual, mystical, stable life; fearless. They do well in emergencies and always keep their cool.

Ketu in Jyeshta can bring unrestrained psychological warfare, scattered secrets, no barriers to research, no limits to the depths which one can go. Research into the paranormal, a kind of lifeless revolution, scattered secret conquests, and alien hero, unexpected surrender, loss of sexual boundaries, numbness to the internal sexual passions and responses, surrendered sexuality

Ketu in Jyeshta 1st house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 1st house: “Makes a person always suffer from ingratitude, remain unhappy, and carry tales against others. He is an outcaste, fallen from his position, disabled, keeping company with the wicked.

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 1st house: “The native is a maker of cotton threads, sickly and diseased, distressed, troubled with fear, worried about his wife, agitated, perturbed, and suffering from windy diseases. Head aches and brain disease is possible, suffering caused by wicked people.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 1st house: “Psychic powers are likely. It denotes a weak constitution and an emaciated figure. Instability and deceitfulness may influence the character. Morbid imagination, strange appetites, tendency to excitability and wandering disposition became pronounced. Married life will be unhappy unless there are other favourable configurations.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 1st house: “Constant distress and anguish through relatives; fear and anxiety through the wicked. Trouble from wife and sons etc. Confusion, biliousness and rheumatism. He remains perturbed and his wife suffers from restlessness and stomach problem. The native is sad, inert, selfish, ugly, and foolish. Death of wife and trouble to the arm. He is seen as a liar, ungrateful, wicked, spiritless, dismissed from service, afraid of sex. Trouble for maternal uncle. He faces losses, scandals, danger to the face and eyes, and he has a short life. If in Capricorn or Aquarius the native is blessed with property and noble sons.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 7th & Ketu in the 1st: “May produce restrictions in ones relationships. Psychologically the person can be self0-centred; socially, he is sometimes lonely. He expects the world to conform to his terms while he himself is reluctant to compromise. Such individuals may find partners in life, wether business , social life, or in marriage, not working in harmony with them. Enduring amiability or happiness are difficult to establish. Marital problems do not necessarily arise due to any lack of desire to achieve harmony and adjustment, but could be caused by illness, voluntary or involuntary separate living arrangements, divorce. Such experiences may lead the individual to extreme degrees of loneliness; he feels no one understands or appreciates him. These people have a tendency to relapse into seclusion, to keep away from others physically as well as in thought. When they begin to develop self-awareness, they then find themselves well prepared to undertake severe austerities and to assume a spiritual course in life.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 7th & Ketu in the 1st: “The native is pronounced worldly wise even when they are functioning on an otherworldly plane. Rahu in the 7th takes good care on ones social standing between the years of 24-42 unless there are overriding negative indications. The spouse is usually more mature than the native and a rise of fortune takes place after marriage. If Rahu is working through his lower principle than the motive behind these relationships is questionable and balance is not maintained causing misunderstandings, break-ups and abuse at various levels. If the nodal axis is afflicted these natives will carry out the mindless sexuality we see in modern media. Balance in sexuality is absent allowing the darker side to take over. They often enjoy vocations dealing with people like counsellors, psychologists, management experts, project coordinators etc. They usually start something on their own as they would rather be boss of their own small private setup than work under someone in a bigger set up. Ketu in the ascendant usually adds some psychic dimension to the personality and gives a self effacing nature. An aspect from Jupiter will solve 90% of the problems that can arise from this placement. Natives are usually short in height and have an out of ordinary appearance if Ketu is close to the ascendant degrees. The ascendant lord needs to be well-placed to keep these natives from being too under-confident in regards to appearance and personality. An exaggerated self-consciousness may be apparent. Ketu in the 1st is also supposed to give low appetite and peculiar tastes in foods. They can internalise energy and develop along spiritual lines. Spiritual transformation usually takes place in later years. The native has to be careful about depending on relationships to drive his or her sense of self.”

Commentary: An empty sense of superiority. Loss of personal identity; instead one becomes the face of transformation, revolution, cataclysmic effects, recycling of the hero’s journey.

Phala Deepika Ketu in 2nd house: “Deprives the native of good education and riches. His language is foul and he has a sinister look. He depends on others for food.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 2nd house: “Brings loss of wealth, opposition against own men, disease of the mouth. Loss of wealth due to punishment of the king. Loss of grain due top theft and birds. The native get refuge with great difficulty in his time of need. If Ketu is in his own sign, or sign of a benefic friend, the native gets very much happiness.” According to BPHS Ketu is exalted in Taurus, moola trikona in Cancer, and ruler of Virgo. Phala Deepika say Ketu is strong in the later half of Taurus, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces.

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 2nd house: “Bad speaker. Loss through fraud and deception. There will be liability in financial affairs. Success in spiritualism, navigation, mystical arts, hospital etc. mat be expected.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 2nd house: “Perturbed about his wealth lest the government should take it away as penalty. Worried about food grains; if that support should be snatched away there will be strife and opposition with friends and family. Not a word of respect or hospitality escapes his mouth. If in Aries, Gemini or Virgo this Ketu is most favourable. The native is always mentally agitated, losses by government, hostility with relatives, ineffective speech in an assembly, harsh and critical speech. His supporters find themselves in trouble. If in Aries, Gemini, or Virgo, or influenced by benefics there will be much happiness and wealth. Loss of wealth, association with low people, wickedness, unhappiness and misfortune. Suffers from want of education, casts vile looks, is dependent, and has trouble with his mouth. If in own sign of associated with friendly planet they can be sweet and soft-spoken.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 8th & Ketu in the 2nd: “Attracts super-physical powers. Such individuals often display tremendous energy which they utilise to achieve extraordinary results. They make their mark on society. Under favourable planetary conditions they create a niche for themselves and may become greta scientists, exceptional police officers, politicians or doctors. If the individual is preoccupied with sense gratification, however, he or she may be drawn towards unapproved activities such as smuggling, drug trafficking or gambling. The results of Rahu in the8th are difficult to predict because the range of the unseen work which this house represents is very extensive. Whatever their achievements in life, this placement will lead to the sudden psychological transformation of these individuals.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 8th & Ketu in the 2nd: “Confers long life, but Ketu in the 2nd is not considered good for maintaining a smooth financial situation throughout life unless Ketu is In Sagittarius or Pisces; but even then they will have to suffer substantial loss at least once in life. It gives peculiarities in the way the native handles money: miserly with small spending but carefree with big purchases. Gambling can be a major downfall of this placement: this is the worst nodal placement for luck in speculation, while feeling the desire to gamble. Extreme cases can see the native gamble on almost everything in life; including their own life. A lot of natives who squander ancestral property are born with this placement. This Ketu gives a wandering nature and pleasurable travels. Many renown travellers have this nodal placement. Since the native is not inclined to follow orthodox religious rituals he should strive to develop some personal philosophy in life. Ketu in the 2nd causes bitterness in family life, which requires patience on the natives part. The native may end up under the control of their life partner at some point. This Ketu can adda sarcastic tone to the voice and the native can be a bitter critic and use foul language. Rahu in the 8th promises legacies and wealth from the partner. At the very least the native can be forced to learn humility by accepting resources from others. This Rahu favours 8th house professions: scientists, researchers, explorers, adventurers, insurance agents, bankers, spies, detectives, writers of mystery stories, occultists and all kinds of employment involving old things. If working through its lower principle this Rahu can make the native commit some bad deeds similar to those of Rahu in the 2nd house. It’s a very dangerous placement as the dark side of the 8th house is a very destructive force. There is a thin line between the balanced use and the excessive use of 8th house energies. The native can totally neglect 2nd house affairs or handle them in a very peculiar manner. The native needs to control their speech. It can be better to communicate in writing as their speech will often be misunderstood. Optimism also needs to be cultivated as these natives can be overly pessimistic.”

Commentary: Very mysterious eyes, they usually lack attachment to possessions and can disregard their partners indiscretions. Of course Rahu in 8th can give them someone their own. They might at some point in their life abandon their family, leave all their possessions, and go off in seek of the deeper mysteries of the world. In many cases this natives, especially the females, marry rich and simple don’t have to think about money and finances; they also don’t really have any understanding of value, even the credit card bill seems to mysteriously get paid and they don’t even think about it. Any money they do have, they tend to spend, but they wouldn’t really know what they spent it on, many of their purchases would never get used and much money is put to waste. But since this Rahu/Ketu combination opens up the gates of the mysteries of the occult with Ketu in Jyeshta and Rahu goes into the 8th house seeking occult attainment through Taurus activities, these folks develops some strong occult powers via all kinds of 2nd house and Taurus indications. Occasionally this will be from taking bad food, improper pleasures, a shamelessness surrendering powerful desires that carry them away. But since this is the foundation of their pride, power and authority; they are typically humbled and shamed many times in life. They may, however, be seamless and continue on like nothing happened.

They also seem to have some magic with lighting and visual displays. They family many be scattered and at some point wealth will be lost. They might have to be reminded to eat sometimes, and they often follow various new-age fad diets and they seek tantric entitlements. They can also say the most mysterious things, their thought can come out loud, and they will not have qualms about saying anything and can be rudely blunt. Other planetary placements might rush in after the fact to apologise, but often it’s too late,

Ketu in Jyeshta 3rd house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 3rd house: “Promotes longevity, strength, wealth and fame. The native lives happy with his wife and enjoys good food. He loses a brother.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 3rd house: “Brings about the destruction of the natives enemies, disputes and quarrels, gains of wealth, a luxurious life, obtainment of grandeur, dignity and an increase in energy. They also see the destruction of their own men and pain in their arm. This Ketu generally give auspicious effects. Vigour and valour will rise up very quickly. But they will have a lot of worries. If this Ketu is exalted of in own sign the native get fear, agitation and happiness.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 3rd house: “Strong and adventurous, but funky. Disturbs the mind with hallucinations.” During the dasha period of Ketu “enemies will be destroyed, becomes well-versed in music and dance. Generally the period will be a favourable one.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 3rd house: “The native kills his enemies. Useless and fruitless altercations and discussions. Gets prosperity and shows smartness, and has sexual affairs in great measure. Loss of friends; pain in the arms; anxiety and fear due to misunderstandings and needless worry. Affluent, sensual, sharp. If in own sign or exalted this Ketu grants much happiness, skilfulness, long life, fame, fortunate partner, tasty food. Fear and loss through friends; uneasiness and fear through the community and family and is adulterous with enemy women. This native is patient, brave, generous. Weak Ketu denies happiness. In Leo or Sagittarius there will be heart trouble, deafness, painful wound in the shoulder. If in Pisces he will be an expert spiritualist. Debilitated Ketu bring mental anxiety, trouble with brethren and neighbours and unprofitable journeys.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 9th & Ketu in the 3rd: “Produces a psychological storm which may be religious in nature. These individuals become charged with ideas that could seem idealistic, unconventional, and provocative to others. Rahu makes the individual absorbs in his or her thoughts, perhaps with some sympathy for others, but often without external demonstration of it, That may appear as if some superior spirit has taken possession of their personality which, under malefic planetary influences, could make them ruthless in executing their nefarious programmes. In large numbers of people, this placement of the nodes creates attraction towards religion, holy places, tantric rituals, and austerities — all with the intention of securing greater personal advantages. There is a gulf between the secret aspirations of these individuals and their external activities, which may make them insecure, temperamental, peevish, or irritable. Coordination between the hidden ambitions and aspiration for psychic power and their actual deeds may be difficult to achieve. But this is the stage where, with some guidance and luck, they can obtain much spiritual merit. They are well prepared for psychological metamorphosis which could radically change the direction of their life course.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 9th & Ketu in the 3rd: “These natives usually meet their destiny in a foreign land or through foreigners. The native usually believes in religious symbolism though not strictly in the orthodox sense. The native is seen to concentrate on 9th house affairs: long journeys, philosophy, inner life, foreign influences, ethical disposition, higher mind, initiation and self realisation. It must not be misunderstood that the native will follow organised religion; he is more likely to develop a personal philosophy. Ketu in the 3rd house: shows some sort of skill related to the 3rd house like writing, painting or other skills involving the hands, but Ketu usually requires some additional good conjunction or aspect to bring out these latent talents. Ketu is even more dangerous than Rahu for the live things related to 3rd house like younger siblings. An unhappy first half to life makes childhood a time not worth remembering. When poorly placed this Ketu is like a dog roaming the streets with much unnecessary and fruitless travels and wandering. Whether the native rises from their childhood scars asa saviour or a revengeful manic depends on the over all chart. Aspects from Jupiter of Ketu’s depositor can usually iron things out.”

Commentary: Their communications are often disconnected. This Ketu gives them freedom to communicate on any topic. Possibly due to the secret nature of their conversations, signals and announcements. They are often disconnected from daily commerce and small talk. Their communication might also be taken to mean things they didn’t actually mean by it. They become completely exhausted trying to get their message across, but they are always misunderstood. They are not at all concerned with small talk, media messaging, warning signals that they become numb to it all. Like the boy that cried wolf; these messages are completely ignored by these natives. The problem is that when the wolf is really coming, they are not listening. It’s almost like they are compelled to walk into the jaws of the beast. They are constantly traveling, giving interviews, book signings and these kinds of things. This can be a really good placement for those kinds of things; as they are just kinda disconnected from it all; but like a vacuums Ketu will suck their energy. They are more focused on the wealth goals of Rahu in Taurus (Rohini (financial security) or Mrigashirsa (unlocking stored energy) from global or humanistic sources.

Ketu in Jyeshta 4th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 4th house: “Destroys land, vehicle, mother and happiness. He is made to leave his native place and is made to live in a foreign land at the mercy of others.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 4th house: “Gives loss of happiness from mother and friends, losses through the father and they have no brothers. If Ketu is in own or exalted sign they get happiness for a short time, but remains full of worries and anxiety. If this Ketu is afflicted by additional malefic the mother suffers greatly and one has disputes over land. They live in an atmosphere of quarrels and disputes.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 4th house: “Will be deprived of mother, properties and happiness; lives in foreign place. There will be exceptional experiences at the end of life. There will be reversals and sudden changes.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 4th house: “Never gets and gain or favour from mother or friends. Loss of patrimony. Does not stay long in his house, and if he does stay, he suffers from nervousness. Benefits through brethren and relatives if in own sign (Pisces) or exalted (Sagittarius). He always criticises others; speaks ill of them and develops much unpleasantness and misunderstandings; quarrels with parents. He is dependent and suffers a loss of agricultural land, loss through father. He proves unfit for the assembly, experiences death of the mother; is valiant; truth-loving; soft and sweet and opulent. If in Scorpio or Leo he gets support from parents and friends. If debilitated there is loss of wealth, travelling, ailing mother, trouble from step-mother. If exalted there is Raja Yoga and gain of conveyance. Gain is sudden if In Sagittarius or Pisces, but it unlucky for immovable property and people will consider him contemptible due to his over-critical approach. He faced danger of poisoning, is thin and lean; bilious; indulges in ungainly controversy. Other effects are loss or confusion with land and property; inheritances; jeopardised family honour and credit; great disturbance in the lives of ancestors; much family strife and discord.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 10th & Ketu in the 4th: “Impels an individual certainly to affect society in which he or she lives. These natives are able to concretise abstract ideals, channelling their inspiration to socially useful purposes. They enable society to experience new truths, new visions, new sensitivity, or even new or radically different patterns of living. Rahu in the 10th house: produces much social interaction with substantial gains. These experiences vivify the psycho-mental capabilities of the person but may make him or her somewhat unstable. The achievements and frustrations which inevitably both arise during their social and professional interactions teach them a sense of detachment. At this stage the ego is ready for psychic transformation, leading from a sense of utter desolation to a level of being at which they begin to surrender themselves completely to the unknown universal spirit.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 10th & Ketu in the 4th: “This placement subjects the native to various extremes in life. The first half is usually full of unpleasant or psychic experiences. The 4th ouse relates to childhood (3 – 14 years old) which makes this the most difficult period leaving some scars on the natives psychological make-up. Mishandling on the part of parents, peers or elders in this period results in psychological disorders which influence their later years. With a strong Ketu they come out of these experiences even stronger. They will have a keen insight into the subconscious and a piercing and penetrating intellect. A weak Ketu will cause them to succumb to outside influences. Psychic powers are heightened with a strong Ketu in 4th, but a strong personality is required to harness these powers for the benefit of all. The fourth house is directly related with the universal mother principle and the precedes of Ketu can connect the native to the wellspring of wisdom and the core forces off creation. Relationship with parents is not usually very smooth but there can be a strong connection with one of the grandparents. Although one may receive financial support from them there are always misunderstandings. A strong psychic contact with the mother is seen, but it might not be very pleasant because of the extreme involved. This combination experiences the generation gap to the fullest degree. The sooner the native is separated from their parents, the better it is for both. This is a wonderful placement for making ones mark on the world. It gives the ability to head large organisations or undertakings. Many agree that this is the best placement for Rahu. The closer this Rahu is to the midheaven the more power it has to help the native. They are especially favoured in the second half of life with a strong sense of purpose and destiny. Ketu in the moksha house gives an innate understanding of the primeval forces which create and sustain the manifest universe. In younger souls it gives an emotional and hypersensitive disposition. One has to check the excessive emotionalism and take a more practical approach to achieving one’s goals. An analogy to keep in mind is that the “earth needs to be watered just enough to raise the crops; more water leads to flooding and less water to drought. Rahu is said to bring positive changes in life at age 19, 38 & 42. This combination often requires sacrificing private life for public life. The native should guard against neglecting the 4th house affairs or else there is very little inner peace and contentment even after all the fame and glory. 10th house Rahu gives leadership qualities which can be used for person aggrandisement or for the benefit of one’s circle of influence. The presence of Ketu in the 4th gives strong attachment and knowledge of ones roots but Rahu in 10th makes it in an all inclusive manner.”

Commentary: They often get governing authority for a while; but since they do not follow the status quo they might find themselves pushed out of power, squeezed out of society, abandoned by their own people. Settling boundaries becomes a huge problem for them. They typical lack roots in the local culture and are alienated from the local people

Ketu in Jyeshta 5th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 5th house: “Makes the person suffer the loss of children, stomach ailments, haunted by evil spirits. They are evil minded, wicked and sinful.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 5th house: “Causes wounds to the stomach, from windy disease or from falling, and surgical procedure may be necessary. The person is dear to siblings, has a righteous mind, few children and is wealthy strong, and vigorous. They make quick decisions, ideas flash in their mind. Favourably placed this Ketu can bring great luck, gain through shares or lottery.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 5th house: “Loss of children and rouble in the stomach; strange and peculiar experiences in connection with the emotions and feelings. Later in life they will have an inclination towards spirituality.” Afflictions to this Ketu “Gives criminal tendencies. The person lacks even a sense of shame when provoked and usually possesses a vindictive nature. The person lacks even the human touch between one or two of his children. If Venus joins this Ketu the may opt for platonic love. If afflicted by Mars, dangers are treated and the family will be extinguished.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 5th house: “Brothers face repeated danger from arms and from bile. Physical pain and suffering from own misunderstandings and wrong notions. Blessed with one or two sons. In spite of his great many vigour he remains in service. Great trouble from too little learning; strife with sons; injuries due to fall from high place. His offspring get affection from relatives but has disputes with brethren. The native is crafty, jealous, weak, timid, impatient, more daughters than sons, relatives are fortunate, stomach complaints, gain through fraud, harms brothers through mantra-tantra. Good fortune and much happiness if in Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius or Pisces. If strong, exalted or in own sign it gives Raj Yoga for head of a monastery; an impressive sermoniser, inclined towards pilgrimage and foreign travel. Fear and danger from water. Knowledge and learning are denied. Cattle wealth. Wicked and foolish. Absence of offspring, or their sudden and violent destruction. Meet with adversity and are disobedient. Harm through excess or irregular pleasure.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 11th & Ketu in the 5th: “Is very powerful. It enables the person concerned to acquire physical and social conveniences and power. The are often members of the social elite. An aura or righteousness and morality surrounds them. In materially inclined persons these impulses are favourable for the acquisition of wealth, social and political status, and opportunities for disseminating spiritual and occult knowledge. Opportunities like these come in profession and may upset their personalities, making them vain, egotistical, and self opinionated. If they maintain their psychological balance, however, they may explore undiscovered laws of nature, clearly describe latent motives of others, and extensively externalise their own inner powers.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 11th & Ketu in the 5th: “The analogy of the phoenix rising from the ashes usually holds true for natives with this placement. As often the case when Ketu is in the first half of the chart, the early life of the native is not very pleasant. Breaks in formal education as they don’t like it and may only go through it out of a sense of social obligation. When Ketu I strong here, they will have a penetrating and piercing intellect as Ketu’s disposition for learning is usually internalised. I have noticed that they usually pursue some form of mysticism either in an accepted way or purely personal. If the ascendant lord conjuncts this Ketu the native will choose platonic love over other forms. There is some sort of frustrations and disappointment encountered with love in adolescent years that makes the native harbour and negative feeling towards love in general. Ketu in 5th is not auspicious for having and raising progeny unless the fifth house is exceptionally strong and Jupiter is aspecting. In charts of female it denoted difficult child birth. Rahu in the 11th is supposed to fulfil most of ones desires in this lifetime. This is not always true and when it does happen, it’s late in life, after ones 40s. This Rahu makes the native ambitious and there is a distinct frustration noticed when their aims are not achieved. 11th house affairs — goals, aspirations, elder brothers, sources of gain, philanthropy, idealism, friends, sharing, group relationships, realisation of objectives — get highlighted. Elder brothers, if they exist, are a source of gain and vice versa provided other influences allow for it. Rahu in the 11th is a great bestower of material gains, but this has to be supported by other combinations in the chart. It is the natives karma to understand and work out the opposites of 5th & 11th like self consciousness & group consciousness, acquisition or resources & sharing of resources, personal ambition & humanitarian perspective. Friendship is a keynote of the lives of these natives, and any unnecessary selfishness needs to be avoided as those who can help him might put out if they see him acting in a selfish manner. Natives with this placement acquire a fortune by devious means and squander it is quickly on undesirable expenditures.”

Commentary: They often have no children or abandon their children, Their desire to connect with others can cause them to lose something of themselves an they might lack originality. They might actually be very unique, but they tend to not think it’s very important. In the mean time some very unique slips might reveal the truth.

Ketu in Jyeshta 6th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 6th house: “Very magnanimous, embodying the best of human qualities, firms and fame. He will possess high authority, destroy his enemies and fulfil his ambition.” “Danger from ulcer.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 6th house: “Brings the destruction of a persons enemies, happiness from animals, gain of wealth, no disease of the body, but disrespect with relatives on mother’s side.” “Ketu in the 6th is very auspicious, due to which the native is dear and loved by brothers, is generous with good qualities, is famous and gets reputation and prestige due to learning and education.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 6th house: “This is the best position for Ketu to occupy in the horoscope. The person will have fame and authority, He will be foe-less. Never-the-less his moral character will be loose. The position also confers intuitive and occult powers.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 6th house: “Discomfiture and disillusionment through the maternal uncle. Destruction of enemies. Cattle wealth, but pauper. Sound health; recovers quickly is there is any ailment. There is little gain, success and pleasure from maternal comfort of cattle wealth. He is free from sickness and worry and has wealth. He is successful in most debates and discussions. He is dear to relatives, large-hearted, skilled, reputed, and gets honour and fame through knowledge. He has financial gain and is firm, a high officer; enjoys expediency. There is trouble the teeth and lips. This native suffers from physical affliction. Unfaithful servants; loss through small animals; danger from insects, reptiles and other animals.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 12th & Ketu in the 6th: “Produces an unusual and powerful impact, providing much psychic power and enormous physical strength to carry out a special mission in life. Sometimes these individuals are found living in abnormal or trying living conditions, but they produce extraordinary results. These results may be highly propitious or socially undesirable; this depends on the disposition of Rahu in the particular chart. These individuals are great organisers and leaders of large numbers of people. Their leadership may be along bizarre, abnormal, or non-conventional lines. When their psychic faculties weaken, these people feel baffled. It is of utmost importance that they are guided properly so that they can take advantage of their opportunities to gain deeper understanding of the laws of nature using their powers for constructive purpose.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 12th & Ketu in the 6th: “This placement oscillates between opposite more often than other placements. There can be a thin line separating insanity & genius; paranoia & self discovery. This can be a difficult combination to handle and there is usually a sense of fatness to life. Rahu highlights 12th house things: receptivity, negation, seclusion, destiny, past lives, karma, escapism, excessive indulgence, luxury, losses, expenses, charity, foreign affairs, limitations, imprisonment, connectivity with subtle planes, fantasy, paranoia, subconscious mind, dreams, visions, sorrow, renunciation, liberation. The 12th house becomes the main field of activity in the natives life and even very evolved souls have difficulty balancing this combination. It can give a taste for all kinds of intoxications, smoking is common, There is a desire to completely immerse the ego in the sea of illusions resulting from excessive indulgence. Usually a strong ascendant is the key to minimising the negative effects of this placement. It can give the native a taste for the supernatural and allow him to look far beyond the material realm of existence. It can also give knowledge of the ocean of Maya in which the divine play of life in played. In my view, half the problem is solved if the native can keep away from all types of drugs and alcohol and they should remain equally wary of blindly following religious orders or other types of institutions. Such natives have a tendency to end up as doctors, nurses, healers, mediums, preachers, counsellors, lawyers, social workers, politicians, detectives, law enforcement. Rahu in the 12th also gives some foreign connection relates to the significations of its depositor or plants associated with it. Ketu in the 6th is supposed to be a powerful force giving worldly riches and power. There is better chance of this coming true is Jupiter is associated with Ketu in some way. These natives tend to expect too much from those working under them. They are not good at taking orders and do not do well in 9 – 5 jobs. Independent enterprise is better for their mental well being. These natives should avoid making too much of 6th house things like diseases, servants, enemies as there is a tendency to unnecessarily dwell on these topics. Most strange diseases and disorders can be found with this Ketu. They usually have no depth of enemies either by their own making or conferred by providence. How they deal with enemies differs based on other things in the chart, but diplomacy is not in the sphere of Ketu’s expertise. 6th house Ketu has very definite ideas about work ethics, purity and morality and there is a tendency to pass judgement and impose one’s ideas on others. Their strong will power helps them achieve their desires sooner or later; but they must guard against over extending their energy. They need to strike a balance between 6th house and 12th house.”

Commentary: Highly educated researchers whose work can generate a lot of controversy. But they are detached for all of this, often busy working out of the lab or studio. Possibly an artist studio, or place of optic instruments. Film and photography and Spielbergs Dream Works all fit the bill.

Ketu in Jyeshta 7th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 7th house: “Causes a person to be disrespected, live in the company of wicked women, suffer from disease of the bowels, loose wife and vital power.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 7th house: “Gives fear during travel, and enemies destroy ones wealth. If in Scorpio, conditions are always profitable but wife gets troubled, worries, anxiety, and expenditures are ever increasing. Wife suffers headaches and sudden physical troubles. This Ketu is not considered auspicious; travel in Ketu periods tend to be fruitless and expensive.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 7th house: “The native will have an unhappy marriage with a shrewish wife. He is passionate, sinful and lusts after windows. His wife is sickly. The native suffers from cancer of the abdomen (or uterus is if a woman). He will suffer humiliation and loss of virility.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 7th house: “Has much trouble and danger form travel, but he returns safely. Loss of wealth and fear of drowning. Trouble from partner and sons. Extravagant; nervous. If in Scorpio there will be gain of wealth, and income will be stable. Increased expenditure and happiness from wealth. There is want of happiness from partner. She may be wicked. The native himself is immodest, sleeps long, has humble speech, undertakes a lot of travels. Journeys are postponed, wealth is lost, and there is fear of enemies and thieves. He is adulterous and deserted by partner. Ailments of the intestines; seminal troubles and wrath of the ruler.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 1st & Ketu in the 7th: “Intensifies the material urges of the individual. It drives one to seek prosperity, personal prowess, greater work skills, higher social status, and to leave ones mark on society. Yet these individuals fair to satisfy their thirst completely. This leads to disenchantment with the people or groups with whom they come in contact. Self-conceit greatly vitiates their interpersonal relationships and these individuals may experience great anguish and phycological frustration at many levels. They may begin to analyse the working of their inner mind. The psychological changes arising out of situation makes them more introverted. As their frustration is transmuted these persons gradually begin to immerse themselves in humanitarian activities and become useful members of society and helpful and understanding workers.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 1st & Ketu in the 7th: “Fortunate in that it allows the native to successfully project their personality to the outside world. Rahu is said to do well in the 1st, 9th & 10th houses. If Rahu is placed very close to the ascendant degree, then it gives an out of ordinary physical appearance and personality. The person is usually on the taller side and has a peculiar sort of wordiness attached to their manners, which of course is not very pleasing to others. A heightened sense of self, which can often turn into a false sense of pride or vanity, is noticed; which can drive them to act mindlessly on many occasions. If Rahu is working through his higher principle, this position provides keen insight and capacity for constant introspection. This is why this combination produces so many philosophers and saints. These men having the true understanding of the working of the cosmic forces don’t like to be addressed by titles. Rahu here can also provide deep insights into mass psychology and future trends. they can be found working in any field, but we do find that many scientists, inventors, explorers, adventures have this placement. They like to have independence in whatever they are doing. Rahu in the first provides good physical stamina and vitality that might be over-extended in exploration in extreme conditions, adventure sports. They often feel lonely. Their sense of individuality does not depend on social intercourse and they have capacity to be alone for long periods of time. Ketu in 7th hinders the formation of any lasting relationship. Unless there are powerful forces over-riding this, life-long bachelors is the norm with this placement. Relationships only stand a chance if their partner gives them lots of room to be themselves and follow their own path. They can be sweet and humble in their social conduct unless afflicted. They always stand by the way they think and feel and are very frank and outspoken about it. This habit does not help them win many friends except those with enough understanding to gage their real intent. Public speaking comes naturally to these people even is they seem shy off-stage. The native has to learn to take the spotlight off one’s own self in order to understand and accommodate others. They are caught up in the dilemma of why should one scatter one’s energies outside when the whole universe exists within the self. This often causes them to completely exclude the world outside. More evolved souls do not make this mistake because they understand self-realisation has no meaning unless it is shared with and includes the world outside as well.”

Commentary: They are usually not the marrying type though they might have many random and odd partners. The problem is there is typically no glue holding them together. Agreements have little meaning. There will seem to be very powerful past life connections with partners but they will come and go quickly, often without warning. These relationships will tend to be secretive and possibly only related to the sexual impulse. There can be something very mystical, spiritual and detached about One’s partners. Early in life this can cause much grief, but later in life one might develop their relationship with god.

Ketu in Jyeshta 8th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 8th house: “The native will be short lived, remain separated from his dear friends and engage in feuds, be injured by a weapon and meet with disappointments in all efforts. Danger from ulcer. Unnatural death like suicide or assassination as a result of the hatred of enemies, or through worms.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 8th house: “If in Cancer, Virgo, Gemini, the native has disease of the anus but gains wealth from conveyances. If in Aries, Taurus, or Scorpio they will see exceptional gains of wealth. If associated with any other malefic they will suffer piles or fistula, money lent out is not returned, and despite their love and affection for animals will be bitten or injured by them”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 8th house: “If aspected by a benefic the native will enjoy a long life and much wealth. If afflicted, the native covets the wealth and women of others. He will suffer diseases to the excretory system and illness due to a life of profligacy and excess.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 8th house: “Suffers from piles and fistula etc. Fear and danger from fall from horseback. Difficulty from advances given as loans. Gain of wealth if in Aries, Gemini, Virgo or Scorpio. The native is brilliant in games, in job, by character and happiness. The native suffers from secret disease of the face and teeth. He is brave and industrious, but short-lived. There is separation from friends, strife, arm wounds, much opposition, danger from conveyance. If In Gemini, Cancer or Virgo: gain though conveyance. If in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Virgo or Scorpio: trouble from piles, fistula; fear of loss of cattle; hinderance of the return of loans, financial gain through government. He has his eyes on the wealth and women of others and is ailing, vicious and greedy. If aspected by a benefic he is long-living and wealthy. If in Taurus he gets wealth and son.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 2nd & Ketu in the 8th: “May give the individual a sense of mission, a feeling that he or she is functioning as an agent for some higher power. In extreme cases this can lead to megalomania. More often it makes one so opinionated that it may be difficult for them to establish a positive rapport with others. These persons have unrealistic expectations of others and want to change them to suit their own specifications. They may not feel content with their achievements, and become obsessed with securing even more. The promise of acquiring greater physical or spiritual merit often brings radical changes in their thinking. They may grow interested in occult sciences as they become increasingly aware of the immense psychophysical possibilities inherent in the process of expending their consciousness.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 2nd & Ketu in the 8th: “Considered a good placement for the wise management of resources, material and spiritual, available at ones command unless there is affliction. If afflicted, the native is sure to go through a period of deprivation followed by a period of plenty. It’s good for material well being but the desires never end. There is an intensity about getting exactly what they want. Satisfaction or the lack of it became a keynote for these natives. Usually gives an attractive personality, especially to female natives if there are favourable supports. It usually imparts an unorthodox beauty and captivating quality to the natives face which seems to mature early. Although this position of the nodes supports a wide variety of professions it has a tendency to favour mathematicians, linguists, astrologers, economists, financiers, bankers, explorers, researchers, singers, and musicians. It favours a capitalist mindset unless aspected by Saturn. If badly afflicted the native can loose his sense of proportion and earn through trickery, deceit, bribery, blackmail or theft. It’s likely many drug dealers have this placement. Money made is usually spent quickly on indulgences: smoking, alcohol, meat. Jupiter aspect can redeem a person. A lot of present day evils arise from this combination, but in its higher aspect it gives a love for truth and a charitable disposition. Ketu in the 8th house is good for carrying out research in any chosen field. If working through its higher aspect the native will not fear death as they understand its power to renew. If well-placed and materially inclined it can bring legacies and resources of others later in life; but if it’s weak it will only give expectation and no fulfilment. Affliction can give sexually transmitted disease. There is need to maintain calm in the worldly game of gain and loss. If the native gets carried away in either of these they will find life to be unforgiving. They need to seek balance between the earthy second house and the emotional 8th house.”

Commentary: Ketu opens the door to hidden money in this position. Rahu is in the 2nd house hungry for stored resources. There is certainly to be something cloudy in how they come by their wealth. These folks have usually stared into the abyss and are able to get away with with hidden activities. They have no boundaries of depravity and will say or do almost anything to fulfil Rahu’s wealth and collection goals. They usually have a complete loss of sexual inhibitions so that nothing is taboo. They are likely to have many random partners, and although they might try to keep it all secret, Ketu in the 8th house has a way of leaving the door open so that there are no secrets; kind of open secrets. One of the problems with this position of Rahu and Ketu is that they often do not see the catastrophic coming until they are already engulfed in it.

Ketu in Jyeshta 9th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 9th house: “Makes a person take a sinful course, commit unrighteous acts, and be deprived of father. They are unfortunate, poverty stricken and speak ill of good people.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 9th house: “Releases the person from their troubles, gives happiness from son, rise of fortune through foreigners, distress or diseases of the arm. Blessings from doing penance, religious activities and giving alms.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 9th house: “The native will be short-tempered and get upset over triffles. He will be eloquent but will use this talent to scandalise others. Fond of pomp and show, haughty and arrogant, he will, however, be valourous. Often treating his parents badly and generally hostile towards them he will be short sighted but save much money through frugal living. He will have a good wife and children.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 9th house: “He is desirous of sons. Favour and fortune through aliens. Trouble and loss through brothers and pain in the arms. People laugh at his penance and donations. The native feels the absence of sons, He generosity is considered a boast. He is short-tempered, eloquent, convert, critical, brave, jealous of father, vain, spiritless, arrogant and unfortunate. The native is blessed with wealth and sons; gain through aliens and success over troubles. His brothers are in difficulty and has much pain and suffering in both arms. Mocked for his religious fervour and activities as they are not in accord with scripture. Trouble for the father since childhood. Luck is not favouring. No desire for pilgrimage. The native overcomes anguish and harbours a burning desire for sons. He is valiant, well-armed, absence of friends, wealth; piety and modesty and is worried about relatives and sons and poverty. This Ketu keeps him free from many troubles and calamities. It blesses him with sons; fortune through foreigners; satisfaction through asceticism and benevolence. He may be a king or a minister; has fame; glory, wisdom, generosity, kindness and devotion. This Ketu shakes his faith; voyages bring misery and misfortune; strange dreams, and doles out punishment in foreign lands.”

Bepin Behari Ketu in the 9th & Rahu in the 3rd: “Gives many responsibilities along with a tendency towards reclusiveness. These individuals come out of their isolation when their assistance is sought and they are thrust into leadership roles. The leadership may be philanthropic activities, dissemination of the wisdom of the past and sacred scriptures, or in the realm of political organisation and philosophy. They may impart guidance in psychological exploration or industrial organisation. They suffer when they have to follow routine duties; otherwise they do not reject hard work, penance, and contemplation. Gradually they realise that public and charitable work is the best goal in life and they embrace the principle of right action: selfless activity with no expectation of reward.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 3rd & Ketu in the 9th: “This is considered an auspicious placement for the nodes. Rahu provides material success while Ketu takes care of inner life. Rahu provides courage but also misunderstandings with younger siblings. As is the case with natural malefics the live things of the house suffer (younger siblings and companions), while the non-living things prosper: mental and physical energy, passions, prowess, leadership ability, oratory, scientific rational thinking, writing ability, etc. In some cases strong assistance from younger siblings helps one get ahead in life (or vice versa). Short journeys bring luck, though they can sometimes be unpleasant. Longer journeys to distant countries do not turn out to be suited for the native unless Ketu is strong in a friendly sign and conjunct the yoga karaka planet or exalted planet. A peculiar thing of this placement is that the native can hold a gun or a pen with equal ease; which they choose depends on other things in the chart. Writers, orators, painters, sculptors, instrumentalists, soldiers, athletes (especially those requiring skill and strength of arms), generals, revolutionaries, political and spiritual leaders are likely to have this combination. The physical and metal abilities provided by this Rahu can be uses in positive way if other placements in the chart provide an integrated personality. I have found that, due to the 3rd house emphasis, this placement to produce a number of atheists who swear by science and scientific thought. Late in life that can swing to the other pole and denounce everything material. They have to strike a balance between physics and religion; aggression and compassion, the drive and the path, mater and spirit. If an evolved should is capable of striking this balance they will realise the beauty, dexterity, gentleness, and genius of this placement. The first half of life is usually more fruitful than the second half: if the native achieves fame and fortune in his youth, this will be lost in his 40s. Age 47 begins a new episode in their life: for those who have had a relatively uneventful life until this point they now, after 47, find an opportunity to make their mark on the world. Ketu should be quite strong for this to happen. After age 47 Ketu tries to bring the 9th house to light. For those who have lived a material existence up to this point will find it a miserable experience; especially if they are not willing to change the course of their life.”

Commentary: They believe in research, but they can be very ambivalent towards all religion. They might find themselves excommunicated from the church as they abandon all ideology, The message is often more important than the meaning behind the message. They might believe in aliens, ghosts, black magic and all kinds of super natural phenomena.

Ketu in Jyeshta 10th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 10th house: “Makes a person have to overcome great obstacles in order to do any good act, or he may himself be responsible for the obstacles. He is impure and engages in evil deeds. He is energetic, wise and reputed.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 10th house: “The native is devoid of happiness from father, destroys enemies despite being unfortunate oneself. Conveyances get wear and tear and one suffers from windy diseases. Trouble from horse back riding. Ketu in Virgo 10th house makes a person happy and wealthy. Aries, Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio is good for gains.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 10th house: “The native will be strong, bold and well known. He will commit vile deeds, be impure in his resolve, and face many obstacles in his undertakings. He will be very clever. If beneficially disposed the native will be happy, religious, well-read in scripture and visit many pilgrimage places and sacred rivers.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 10th house: “He is unfortunate and miserable. Trouble through father. Danger of falling from a horse or some other form of transport. His enemies are destroyed if In Gemini, Leo, Capricorn or Aquarius; the native will be intelligent, strong, a craftsman, self-realised, social, phlegmatic, bravest of the brave, challenging and much travelled. Trouble for the father and the native is ugly and unfortunate. Danger for horse, elephant, cow or bull etc. If in Pisces or Sagittarius [or is it Pisces or Sagittarius ascendant] he get the greatest honour and recognition, wise, an authority of scripture, living in foreign land, many victories. In Aquarius, Virgo, Gemini or Taurus [or these ascendants] he is amiable and get ordinary results. The imposition is not favoured for business, but the native get fortune in a foreign land if it’s in a movable sign. Disease of the rectum, lowly habits and deed; adulterous. He gets no gain or support from parents. If in Virgo he gets a though injury from conveyance. He is fond of playing Veena and like black objects but opposes all good activities. He is impressive, reputed, and gallant, but troubled through thieves. There is loss of reputation through fraud, treachery, an unfavourable public and market conditions, failures, changes and depressions.”

Bepin Behari Ketu in the 10th & Rahu in the 4th: “May bring emotional suffering and the frustration of desire. These natives often enjoy many physical comforts and opportunities for sense gratification, but first they may pass through heart wrenching situations of utter hopelessness. Their despair may not appear on their faces; indeed, others may accuse them of insensitivity or of exaggerating their troubles. These emotional setbacks may seriously affect their relationships. Those with extremely weak egos may suffer from schizophrenia; those with exaggerated egos may become ruthless and pursue their objectives without consideration for others. When they begin to deal with their inner issues constructively, they prepare themselves to meet any situation without giving undue importance to their person conveniences, dislikes, or troubles. They begin to realise that life is not for idleness but for working simply for the works sake, without wasting time or licking one’s wounds.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 4th & Ketu in the 10th: “Everything is fine as long as the native is not ambitious about career. Contentment is the key word of this placement, A strong attachment to mother or mother figures in seen; similar to Rahu conjunct Moon. Some help from the mother or the mother’s side helps one get ahead in life. The father figure is usually absent from a young age or ignored. They no not like vocations that involve a lot of travelling. They prefer to have a permanent home in a particular village, town or city where they spend the majority of their life. They usually prefer smaller towns to bigger cities. 4th house vocations like property dealers, agriculturists, dairy farmers, transporters, professional drivers, child psychologists, children story writers, interior decorators, architects, construction engineers, etc. are favoured by this placement. At least a couple changes of profession are common. Ketu in the 10th hinders job satisfaction. It becomes the natives duty to insulate the emotional aspects of life rather than the practical aspects. A sudden fall is imminent if the native gets over ambitious in career or reputation. Any attempt to suppress the active subconscious can make their lives dull and sad.”

Commentary: These folks often again a leadership position fairly easily, but they go on to abandon it eventually. The normal course of leadership structures just does not interest them. They are recognised as a king in society but all they really want is their privacy. They will often find a very powerful unorthodox guru who might come to them through dreams and visions or smoother supernatural connection. This guru can often pop up out of the blue and disappear just as quickly. Something this can manifest as a piece of advice from a random stranger.

Ketu in Jyeshta 11th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 11th house: “Makes a person hoard money, possess many noble qualities, enjoy himself well, and gives every opportunity to collect good materials and be successful in achieving all desires.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 11th house: “Makes the native sweet spoken and excitable, they get good education, has charming appearance, is voluptuous, vigorous, valorous, wears beautiful clothes, but suffers disease of the anus and unhappiness from children. In own sign aspected by benefits this Ketu can give quick gain, much wealth and give success in all objectives.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 11th house: “The native will have a habit of hoarding. He may get monetary windfall through speculation, lottery, horse racing or stock exchange. Noble and possessed of many good qualities of head and heart, he will succeed in all his ventures and will participate in charitable causes and events.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 11th house: “The native gets success and gain from all sources. Very fortunate and learned, handsome, strongly built, well-dressed and very glorious. His offspring are unfortunate and suffer from fear and danger. The native is reputed, charming, happy-go-lucky, has house and property, affluent, generous, skilled in aesthetics and archery; sweet, pleasant, humorous, learned, prosperous, imposing, fortunate with jewellery, dress, and ornaments; suffers from ailments of the rectum and tension. He is generous, kind, popular, fond of literature, contented and respected by the king. If this Ketu is in Aries, Taurus, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces, or is aspected by Jupiter or Venus the native is especially benefitted. There is success and gain in business. He is a poet, a writer, gets state honour, wealth flourishes. He was success and quick gain everywhere and spends it on noble cause. He is unfortunate in respect to progeny. Denotes undesirable associations, opportunities are missed, hopes remain unfulfilled; he is misguided by unfaithful friends.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 5th & Ketu in the 11th: “Activates the persons creativity in a paradoxical manner, restricting material creativity in order to impels the creative forces to higher levels from which beneficence of different kinds can be radiated. These individuals may experience difficulty in having offspring of their own, but on a mental plane they are very active. The keep themselves extremely busy. Material creativity might suffer, as may sociability, and there can be anxiety about financial security. Despondency due to such experiences makes them seek compensation on the mental plane where they attain some degree of satisfaction. Ultimately they may become both impersonal and quite successful in relationships. They attain significant social status and may make a great deal of money. They eventually realise that their happiness and peace of mind do not depend on specific work involvements but on a trust in the law of karma. Even in small everyday activities their actions are now guided by an attitude of helpfulness.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 5th & Ketu in the 11th: “This combination can produce the best and the worse type of human being. The 5th and 11th deal directly with ones mental make-up and interaction with others. They have abundant mental energy which can be used for good or evil. Rahu in the 5th provides this mental energy along with highlighting 5th house affairs — intellect, creativity, self-consciousness, past life merits and demerits, children, love of the self and others, acting, confidence, education, publications, mantra, the chosen deity, etc. This is also the house governing mass media and cinema. This is the reason why most actors and other people associated with movie and stage productions have this combination. In my view, photography originates from this placement. In many charts of photographers I have come across this nodal placement in 90% of them. Under malefic influence Rahu in 5th can produce megalomania and even dictators if Sun & Mars are involved — dictators of nations as well as the self styled dictators of home and workplace. It can also produce crooks and swindlers, thieves, thugs if Mercury is afflicted or involved in this combination. It is thus a very sensitive place for Rahu where one need to channel their creative and intellectual energies for the benefit of the group or the sphere of ones influence. In other words, this energy needs to be channelled through he 11th house. There is usually a break in formal education making vocational training preferable to classical education. When working in it’s higher principle, 11th house Ketu allows channelling to happen with ease. When afflicted it can block the 11th house so that one does not have many friends nor are they involved in any social or humanitarian projects resulting in a self-centred life. The self-conscious has to become a part of the group consciousness, and form a part of the collective human consciousness, before finally merging with the greater universal consciousness. 5th house is fire, the 11th house is air; air has no warmth without fire and fire cannot burn without air. The fire produced in 5th house should be dissipated in tot the 11th house so it reaches those who require it. This is the challenge for these natives. Ketu in the 11th house produces miSunderstanding with the elder brother and is not considered favourable. Some anxiety on the part of children, their birth and development is also seen. If having children the native usually makes for a concerned parent.”

Commentary: They have many strange and odd friends. Many of them are magicians, occultists, wise, mysterious old man figures. Som might be very old, ancient people whose lives seems to be beyond time; or perhaps they seem to be from a different time. They can be a little cloudy about what they really wan tfrom life and they will get many achievements and awards without much effort of interest. They might even decline some of them or even abandon much of the profit they are set to make. In some ways they feel like they don’t have to achieve anything simply because they are already so special.

Ketu in Jyeshta 12th house

Phala Deepika Ketu in 12th house: “Commits sinful deeds secretly and squanders away his wealth on vile things. He destroys his wealth and is of questionable conduct suffering from ailments of the eyes.”

Jataka Bharnam Ketu in 12th house: “Gives trouble to feet and eyes, heavy expenses, destruction of enemies, lacks desire for happiness, and suffers disease to the anus and loins. The native might not have wealth but will spend money lavishly.”

B.V. Raman Ketu in the 12th house: “The native will have a restless and wandering mind and will leave his country of birth. The lower classes will befriend him. All inherited property will be lost.”

Chamatkar Chintamani Ketu in the 12th house: “Bestows princely glory and prosperity. Spends his wealth for the social good. Enemies are defeated on the battle field. Pain and suffering anger the navel, private parts, feet and eyes. No gain through maternal uncle. He wastes his wealth on misdeeds. He is laggard in war, vicious, restless, generous, extravagant, in-depth. If it conjoins Mercury: success and gain in business; affluent like a king; a poet learned in sastra. If exalted, in own sign or with Jupiter the naive is a very skilled, gentle aesthetic. If strong with Venus he worships Durga, the power goddess. If with Venus or Moon he is adulterous and vicious. The native is eloquent in debate, has beautiful eyes, education, and he destroys his enemies. He gets no help from maternal uncle. Suffers from ailments of the private parts, rectum, feet, eyes, and remains mentally upset. There is loss of old property, unsteadiness, immodesty and imprisonment.”

Bepin Behari Rahu in the 6th & Ketu in the 12th: “Makes these people intensely concentrated on material pursuits. Often their dreams, psychic experiences and spiritual contacts affect them at deeper levels, producing radical transformations in their mental attitude. They feel unhappy about social differences and may face illness, litigations, and personal accusations but they confront them with courage and confidence, and the final outcome works in their favour. The experience gained in these confrontations gives them inner confidence. Their dream experiences, increased sensitivity, and psychic visions initiate them in the knowledge of supra-physical realms. The perception of higher realities now becomes more meaningful to them then the enjoyment of physical comforts and social acclaim. They gradually establish greater control over their psycho-physical functions.”

Prash Trivedi Rahu in the 6th & Ketu in the 12th: “Rahu is said to function well in the upachaya houses and Ketu has a natural affinity for the 12th house. This is generally true, but when it comes to giving hard times this is the toughest placement. Rahu in the 6th highlights 6th house things like work, service, health, enmity, distillation and discrimination, dietary and personal habits, accidents, diseases, discipline and austerity, opposition, litigation, power, helpers, medicine, healing. Natives with this placement have come to terms with all of this negative energy to some extent. 6th house represents adolescent years so from this early period these natives show an immaculate sense of method and order in their lives (provided there are supporting factors). If this Rahu is afflicted they can indulge in mindless behaviour that harms themselves and others which they come to later regret. This is a good combination for physicians, healers, therapeutic vocations. The native usually deals with foreigners and benefits from them in some way: foreign service, tourism, import-export, shipping, etc. They have capacity for heard work, and a dint of fearlessness is noticed. Ketu in the 12th usually gives some psychic experience either through dream or visions [or related to the functions of planets in conjunction]. This is a good position for spiritual pursuits, but Ketu has to be acting through his higher principle. The native usually has some understanding of the divine forces in a very personal way. This position of Ketu usually brings about some unpleasant experiences: imprisonment, isolation, accidents, but this is often a good thing as they are paying off karmas from their past. Isolation is very important for these natives as it can bring out latent abilities. After this realisation follows the hard work indicated by Rahu in 6th. A peculiar trait of this Rahu is that no matter how are they try to avoid enmity, it seems to follow them; this makes forgiveness one of the most important qualities the native can develop. This combination is also beneficial in modern day politics where dealing with enemies and behind the scenes manoeuvres comes naturally to the native. These native usually prevail over their enemies, but enemies can also bring their downfall, and even their death. This position of the nodes usually give a strong constitution but other planets involved can cause serious disease or difficult to diagnose disorders. Sudden unexpected death can also happen if there are other contributing factors. Worldly recognition or success comes only after a long struggle, these natives are very career conscious. They can be headstrong and there is danger of misuse of power, but Ketu in 12th will bring their downfall to teach them the lesson. The native has to guard against rigidity which comes from too much order and discipline in life. They also have to guard against loosing themselves in extreme indulgence from having a complete lack of discipline. Financially the native is neither a miser nor a spendthrift, but they often take up either extreme asceticism or extreme indulgence as a means of attaining liberation . Some few take up the middle path once wisdom dawns on them.”
