Brahma / Creative energy: A creative energy that brings something new and fresh into the world. Brings new gadgets into society, builds things. It can be a fairly inventive nakshatra as it often creates things to solve specific problems.

Sage Pulaha: Married Daksha’s daughter Kshama and had three sons; Kardama, Kanakapeetha, Urvarivat; and a daughter Peevari. He had three more sons with his granddaughter, Gati: Karmasreshtta, Vareeyamsu, Sahishnu. Helped create the wildlife as well as many of the mythical beasts, including butterflies, lion, wolves and lambs. Since his children were so poorly behaved, he adopted Agastya’s son, Drdhasyu. He practiced intense devotion to Lord Shiva on the banks of the Alaknanda river (the source of the Ganges). He was involved with talking Sage Parashara out of killing all the Rakshasas. When King Bharata renounced his kingdom he went to Sage Pulaha’s ashram for refuge. He had knowledge of theatre and drama.

It’s said that one of his sons, Kardama, was granted two boons by Lord Vishnu: The first was that he got a good wife, and he soon married Devahuti. The second was to have a son who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and Kapila was soon born. His nine daughters all married great sages: Anasuya (wife of sage Atri), Arundhati (wife of sage Vasistha) & Khyati (wife of sage Bhrigu), Gati (2nd wife of sage Pulaha, according to Bhagavata Purana). After their householder duties were complete, Devahuti went to study with her son, Sage Kapila, from whom she learned Sankhya philosophy. Kapila is identified with Agni and is known to have reduced sixty thousand sons of king Sagara to ash with a glance. Kapila is usually shown with jatamukha (jata crown), a beard, and four arms (two in yoga holding a pitcher, one holding a shakha and another with a chakra. According to Siva Purana, a Sage named Kardama was born from Brahma’s shadow to be an aspirant, but this may be a different Karadama. The word, ‘kardama’ means: mud, muck, dirty, and is sometimes used to refer to sin. Adi Parva describes him as a virtuous serpent and the grandson of Viraja. It’s said that kardama was so pleased with his wife that he gave her an airplane with which they travelled the world.

His adopted son, Drdhasyu, was a master of scripture from birth as he memorised them from his mothers womb. He learned stick combat and martial arts from Lord Murgan, and he was also known as Idhmavaha for his ability to carry huge loads of wood from the forest. ‘Idhma’ refers to tinder that is ready to be burned (the perfect student).

Deva: The planets relating with the Devas will promote more refined and righteous behaviour; but may struggle with pride and entitlement. They are more capable of understanding the subtitles of life. This is also used in chart matching. They say it’s best if both parties belong to the same tribe (8 points). However, they say that a deva and a rakshasa will get one point for the attraction of opposites). This is a very important classification suggesting that the way these three tribes (devas, humans & rakshasa) live is so different as to have a major effect on marriage compatibility and living together.

Vaishya: Merchant caste appreciates trade, negotiation, connection and networking.

Moksha: The goal here is to accept and let go, to release, liberate oneself and others. Expenditure, loss, release are the themes. One usually seeks to go beneath the surface. Expect planets in moksha nakshatra’s to support all kinds of loss, liberation and freedom.

Laghu / Kshipra – Swift / Light: Supports any kind of quick, light activity like short travel, quick easy interactions with people, sports, games, arts & crafts, educational pursuits, decorating, dressing up, dating, hanging out with friends. It’s a good day to appreciate the simple things in life, treat yourself to a little tender-love n care, a spa treatment, yoga, as well as most holistic remedies. It’s also good for most of the “moveable” activities, like travel, and making changes as long and they’re pretty quick and easy. Making money move in various ways, especially light, swift transactions: buying, selling, borrowing, conducting trade, or the personal side of business getting to know clients, having a business lunch. This is similar energy we see on Thursday. Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta, Abhijit are all swift & light.

Rajasic: function through the mind, emotions, intellect in a spiritually active way.

Fire: rises up, expands, illuminates, transformers burns, cooks, assimilates

  • Fire + Air = cooperation / Earth + Water = Cooperation / Space cooperates with all.
  • Earth does not cooperate with Fire and impedes Air
  • Water does not cooperate with Air and impedes Fire

Vata:  Air + Ether = Cold, dry, light, moving, subtle, clear, hard, pervasive, rough

  • Flighty, spiritual, thin
  • Disturbed by bitter (Mars), astringent (Saturn), pungent (Sun).
  • Pacified by sweet (Jupiter) & sour (Venus)

Passive: Planets here will be more passive about achieving its goals: allowing things to happen rather than “forcing” things. The moon is said to persuade through temptation so she does well here. Venus draws us in by her promises of beauty so she also does well. Saturn is the master of patience so he also does well. The active planets can cause a bit of trouble in trying to force things that we should just allow to happen naturally.

Male: imparts male characteristics to planets placed here. Live karakas may also be male.

Triyanga Mukha – Facing Straight Ahead (Level): This is a level-headed and forward looking position. It’s good for mundane, everyday tasks that allows us to prepare for the future. This nakshatra promotes an honest, realistic assessment. It marks a good time to level with others or yourself, to ensure that the playfield and the ground are all level. It can be a good time to start surveying, building, laying pipe, or sticking a level on anything. Mercury and Venus share this perspective. Ashwini, Mrigasira, Punarvasu, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Jyeshta and Revati are all forward looking.

South: Auspiciousness and results will most likely be found in the southern direction.

Female Buffalo: (pairs with Swati)

Sex and creation can feel like a duty. Buffalo’s are symbols of tamasic energy suggesting a slow, lazy, stubborn and dark approach to the creative process. Sex may be dirty but unimaginative. Mahishashura was a shapeshifting buffalo demon killed by Durga. They will have to face arrogance, false pride, and procrastination which can all have a negative effect on the creative process. They can also be overindulgent, and experience addictive tendencies and much self criticism and loss of trust.

Spondias Indica Tree / “Pittavriksha bile tree” / Spanish Plumb

A member of the cashew family. The leaves and fruit are commonly used as a source of food and medicine. The fruit is commonly used in pickles in India, but it can also be eaten fresh.

The unripened sour fruit is astringent and aphrodisiac. The sweet, ripe fruit is cooling and soothing.  It’s high in fibre, iron, vitamins A, B and C, calcium and phosphorus which strengthens the immune system and tonifies the body. It’s high enough in iron to make an effective treatment for anaemia and the mineral salts such as potassium and calcium help the body to reabsorb water and nutrients while antioxidants help keep us young. A decoction from the bark is very effective for dysentry, gastro-intestinal disorders, and infantile tympanites.

Auspicious Activities

This is a light swift nakshatra suggesting it’s a favourable day to enjoy, work with your hands: play music, do crafts, tinker around the house, teach or play with children, do a bit of gardening or yard care, chat with the neighbours, practice a bit of yoga & meditation. It’s an excellent day for a sunrise bath in a holy river. Offer your service to take care of some little things for friends and family. Get involved with the community; keep the daylight, multi-task.

Do not make long term plans or laze around; this is not a day for procrastination. But do try to avoid doing anything at night; just relax and let the day flow. Do not sign contracts when the moon is in Hasta, especially during the dark half of the month, as it may be a good day for thieves and tricksters.

Special Considerations

  • Mercury exalted at 15º (or 17 -19 degrees)
  • Mercury is moolatrikona between 15º – 20º.
  • Pushkara Amsha 14º Virgo. Nourishing point. Moons transit brings auspicious and nourishing results. Good time to plan auspicious events.
  • Pushkara Navamsha: 13º 20′ to 16º 40′ Virgo (Taurus Navamsha)
  • Rahu is said to be exalted here

Gods & Symbols of Hasta

Savitur:

Before the sun rises he is called Savitur. He is known as the destroyer of ignorance, bringer of light to darkness by working through our intelligence. He inspires and impels acts of worship. He is the god of stimulation, “the impeller”. The rules over all mobile and immobile objects. He has golden hair and golden arms (like Agni & Indra), rides a golden chariot, with a gold axel which is omni-form. He is said to have a beautiful tongue but may also be “iron-jawed.” He wears tawny clothes. His chariot is pulled by two radiant, bronze, white-footed horses. His golden splendour stretched itself out or is diffused across the heavens, the sky and the earth. Like Vishnu he is in charge of maintaining the natural order of the universe.

Savitur is invoked through the Gayatri mantra during the thread ceremony, which marks the beginning of Vedic studies for Brahmin youth. It’s a very popular ritual to recite this mantra 108 times during the hour of Brahma just before the sun rises. Some of his hymns are ment for evening worship. Even in a general sense Savitur is considered to be the one who inspires or impels ritual sacrifice and spiritual or religious thought.

The Gayatri Mantra was a gift from Maharshi Vishvamitra.

भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्

oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ; tat savitur vareṇyaṃ;

bhargo devasya dhīmahi; dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt

“We choose the Supreme Light of the divine Sun; we aspire that it may impel our minds.”Sri Aurobindo further elaborates: “The Sun is the symbol of divine Light that is coming down and Gayatri gives expression to the aspiration asking that divine Light to come down and give impulsion to all the activities of the mind.”

~Sri Aurobindo

Savitur did not take part in the Soma right, which is perhaps why many Hasta natives do not drink; or at least seem to be moderate drinkers. But Savitur is often associated with other deities. He’s almost inseparable from Surya though occasional passages seem to make a distinction between them. “Savitur rises in brilliance making light for the whole world; Surya, shining brightly, has filled heaven and earth with air and his rays.” In other parts it seems that savitur mixes with the rays of the Surya.

Aside from Surya, Savitur is closely identified with Soma, Agni, Indra, Pushan, Mitra & Bhaga. Some say Savitur rules the west while Agni rules the east. Savitur and Agni are the only two gods referred to as “domestics” (damunas). It might be interesting to note that he is often mentioned as one of the asura’s. He is the sun that we don’t see (we only see the rays shining over the horizon. As half the world is perpetually dark to us. Savitur is that light we know is shining in the dark. Savitur is our intelligence that allows us to reach beyond the horizon of observable reality. Savitur is the vivifier working with Pushan to purify our thoughts for worship. He embodies the laws of Mitra and the wealth of Bhaga. He is sometimes called “Child of the Waters” (apam napat). It’s important to note that Savitur is a vedic god whose name does not appear in the later Puranic literature.

The first line of Gayatri, “bhur, bhuva svah,” may refer to the 11 gods of heaven, 11 gods of the atmosphere, and the 11 gods of earth. Some things we can see, some things we can feel, other things we either know or we don’t; they cannot be explained.

Sri Aurobindo goes on to explain the place of Savitur in our world. “Once the senses are controlled and the mind is stabilised through slaying of all the dark powers, comes the awakening, the goddess Ushas, who brings along with her Ashwins into the world of inner consciousness. After Ushas appears Aditi, the Primal Sun, the God of Light: First as Savitr, who represents the divine grace essential for all spiritual success, and then as Mitra, who as the divine love is considered as a friend of the illumined mind (Indra) and his associates (the other gods). The Sun is Truth, after which appear Rta (Truth in Action) and Rtachit (Truth Consciousness).”

When we look into ourselves and ask after the source of our activity or inactivity, we can talk all we want about choice and free will, reason and rationality, but every idea, every thought, every inspiration has as its source a ray of light, an illumination and some force that impels us to follow the path of the mind or the body that is lit up before us.

Vulture/Jatayu:

Vultures are the great scavengers of the world. They feed on the dead and have been called the janitors of the animal kingdom. The Zostarians (or is the the Jains?) put the dead bodies of their loved ones on a platform so that they may be eaten by the Vultures. It’s not hard to understand how this might actually be one of the most efficient and sustainable ways of disposing of dead human bodies. This is of course what happens to most animals that die a natural death: the scavengers and the insects take care of the bulk of the body before it starts to decompose and turn back into the earth.

Vultures fly very high like an eagle as the survey huge areas of land for fallen corpses.  clean up the rotting disease infested skilled, fly very high, angles, mimicry

(See the stories of crow below)

Horus: Rays of light

Palm: This seems to relate both to the palm of the hand as well as the palm tree.

Palm Sunday happens one week before Easter Sunday and marks the beginning of a holy week; some call it “Passion Sunday.” This is the day Jesus entered Jerusalem to a great “fan fair” as the locals waved palm leaves and covered his path with them. He knew that he was walking into his death, but he entered the city anyways. Before entering he sent two disciples to fetch him a colt which had not been broken. He rode in on this fresh donkey as the people shouted, “Hosanna, save now.” They recognized him as their king; their saviour. The palm leaves are considered a symbol of goodness and victory, of eternal life and victory over death. The Egyptians carried them in funeral processions. Arriving on a donkey was meant to show that he came in peace, with humility; and in turn they laid their cloaks down before him and an act of submission and surrender.

O Christ our God

When Thou didst raise Lazarus from the dead before Thy Passion,

Thou didst confirm the resurrection of the universe.

Wherefore, we like children,

carry the banner of triumph and victory,

and we cry to Thee, O Conqueror of love,

Hosanna in the highest!

Blessed is He that cometh

in the Name of the Lord.

Hand:

Often a symbol of power, strength and protection. We use our hands to help and to ask for help, to reach out to the world and to grasp at it’s illusions. The hands are, however, most commonly associated with trying to make the right choice.

We have two hands, right and left, signifying the inherent dualities of the natural world: light & dark, good & evil, male & female, life & death, yin & yang. The hands relate with our ability to choose one side or the other. Savitur is invoked to help us make the right choice.

Potters Wheel / Impeller:

Represents centrifugal force and brings to mind the action of an impeller in pumping systems. The impeller is the opposite of a turbine which draws energy out of moving water; the impeller adds force to make the water move and increase the flow and pressure of the water. The propeller that drives ships forward through the water can also be considered impellers. The agitator of a washing machine is also a kind of impeller. Fire fighters of most commonwealth countries use an impeller as a symbol.

Colour Green:

Picasso had a “green period” whenever a Venus dasha period would come along.

Star of Hasta

“The lonely one offers his hand too quickly to whomever he encounters.”

― Friedrich Nietzsche

Corvus (d Corvi): The crow (or Raven).

Made up of five stars (or fingers)

The sacred bird of Apollo which was tasked with watching over his pregnant lover while he was away. She gets bored and finds a new lover, but when the crow reports this to Apollo he is punished by being scorched black (crows were white before this). Apollo had his loved one killed, but the child was removed from her body first. This child grew up to be the great healer (seen in the constellation Ophiuchus; the serpent bearer).

  • Infidelity, treason, curses, conception of a son, wounded healer (relates also to Chiron)
  • Indication of death, meticulous timing.

Alternate story about Apollo and the crow: Apollo sends the crow to fetch water, along the way he sees some figs that are almost ripe so he waits a few days, enjoys his feat and then continues his task. When he returns with the water he lies about his delay, blaming it on a water snake which blocked his path. He cursed the crow that he would not be able to drink at the time when figs become ripe. Then he put him in the sky as this constellation.

Planets & Padas of Hasta

Moon: Emotional response, protective, follows natural rhythms. Caretaking of land, buildings, homes, people, children, one’s own self. Defence, boundaries walls, mothers, teachers, parents, folk culture, grass roots, habits, routine, the natural tides of the body, the rhythm of the seasons, the growing cycle of plants. The mind in general and our ability to keep our cool. It must be mentioned that the moon also rules over water, pearls, silver, milk, curd, breasts, all mother figures including the mother of your own children. Saltiness or saline are also signified by moon; our ability to ‘taste’ life and extract the flavour from it. The position of the Moon will greatly affect the function of this nakshatra.

Virgo: Virginal, innocent, young unmarried, easily exploited, victims class, no contract, no equity, disenfranchised, marginalised, loss of trust, loss of balance, war, enemies, toxic, pollution, accidents, exploitation, debt, accusation, litigation, logic, problem solving, criminals, prostitutes, addictions, animosity, enmity, complaints, obstacles, clinical, wellness, analysis, diagnostics, health care service, servants, pets.

Virgo + Moon: Moon and Virgo don’t really work well together as the mind rarely finds peace as there is a constant stream of scheming and analysis going on, but in hasta, the mind becomes accustomed to caring and comforting the sick while offering protection to the exploited classes of people

Pada 1 (Virgo + Moon + Aries): Quick, strong, militaristic, materialistic, advanced problem solvers, good at mathematics,. They fight to win and can be especially quarrelsome and aggressive when they drink alcohol. They may suffer many ups and downs in life, have poor health and get into accidents. Despite all of this, they typically like philosophy, especially things like “The Art of War,” “The Prince,” and Clausewitz’s “On War.” Ultimately they want to apply technique to solve problems. They can be into health and healing: massage, acupuncture healing, meditation when this is very well placed. This same mind can be applied to mechanics to airplanes, cars, buildings, or computers as a service tech or some such specialisation. At heart these people want fix things with fire and steel, penetrate, which means they can also go towards police or military as well. This pada tends to be the most critical and aggressive part of Hasta.

Many seem to have a cruel streak that may come from everything being just numbers and information; they loose the human dimension to what they’re working with. The duality is strong here; they are good communicators and analysts, story tellers and accountants, they can be very flirtatious and get involved with all kinds of group efforts and might seek remedies by reaching out to others, through meetings and workshops. They say that friendships are born form enmity with this Moon. This can include healing and wellness groups, group therapy. They tend to remain emotionally immature in some peculiar way.

Hasta is known as the golden handed   As main part of Virgo there is a lot of duality to these people and they might be caught living two lives. On one hand they are handy and helpful community minded people, while on the other hand they can exploit this perception of innocence. Hasta is swift and light so it can pass unrecognised. Hasta is like that deception which comes just before the hot war of Chitra,

Sun in Hasta

They are usually health conscious people with some level of athleticism and they may be involved in the health & wellness industry in some capacity. Racket sports, tennis, squash, table tennis are common. They can be self-protective and private with a preference for working and fixing things alone. They can also end up as the central figure of a big scandal, argument, or war. They express themselves best when there is a power imbalance: fields of law, medicine, therapy, exploitation, military rule. They might also be involved in a variety of community outreach programs for the disadvantaged or exploited.

Authority figures may be parental and protective. The father figure may be expected to fix things at a young age. “. . .in August in Mississippi there’s a few days somewhere about the middle of the month when suddenly there’s a foretaste of fall, it’s cool, there’s an ambience, a soft, a luminous quality to the light, as though it came not from just today but from back in the old classic times. It might have fauns and satyrs and the gods and—from Greece, from Olympus in it somewhere. It lasts just for a day or two, then it’s gone. . .the title reminded me of that time, of a luminosity older than our Christian civilisation.”

William Faulkner, Light in August

Facts are the enemy of truth.”

Moon in Hasta

“I’m not a man who constantly thinks up jokes. But I think it’s very important to be able to see the funny side of life and its joyful dimension and not to take everything too tragically. I’d also say it’s necessary for my ministry. A writer once said that angels can fly because they don’t take themselves too seriously. Maybe we could also fly a bit if we didn’t think we were so important.”

— Pope Benedict XVI

The dual nature promised by Virgo is found in Hasta through the relationship between Sun (ruling deity) & Moon (ruling planet). On one hand they are strong, daring, protective or guardian figures; while on the other hand they are lighthearted, practical-joking parental figures. They are usually community minded and like being with family and friends. They might seek out roles that allow them to serve and protect, healing, healthcare, and wellness. They are servants and fixers..They can be a little suspicious and untrusting, possibly because they are themselves known for their trickery which can lead to theft. They usually have good dexterity and coordination of mind; of body; between the hand and the eye. It can be a good place for Hatha Yoga, gymnastics, wrestling; mental gymnastics, wrestling with problems,

If the moon is afflicted and poorly placed these Hasta folks can be cruel, lying, cheating, thieving, employing trickery to make a living; addicted to wine and women; always chasing after the opposite sex and often taking advantage or their relatively innocent looks, They can be emotional and easily triggered bringing, which causes them to become insolent and heartless. They are usually comforted by a little handi-work, fixing or crafting things, offering protection and shelter to the less fortunate.

“We can fall, but in the end we fall into God’s hands, and God’s hands are good hands.”

   Pope Benedict XVI

“If we take the Lord’s hand and let ourselves be guided by him, the path we take will be right and good.”

— Pope Benedict XVI

— Sigmund Freud

“Neurotics complain of their illness, but they make the most of it, and when it comes to talking it away from them they will defend it like a lioness her young”

— Sigmund Freud

Mars is very strong in the 1st pada but debilitated in the 4th pada. Aggressive use of facts and logic, compelled to blame and accuse others, use language an humour in an aggressive way (sarcasm, criticism, snide comments). They often dominate those who are in their care, students, apprentices, as well as servants, and the underprivileged. They are driven to fix things, This is a good position for massage therapists, handymen, servants and service personnel who tend to be masculine, competitive, aggressive and warlike. Whatever they are doing usually takes a lot of fine motor coordination; more of an aggressive touch then a gentle one though. especially in the 4th pada where he is debilitated in the navamsha which is likely to result in the lashing out at others in order to feel secure in themselves. The 1st pada is also warlike, but more aggressive in conquering, penetrating and taking initiative. They might weaponise one’s own good nature as well as using humour, sarcasm, and crude jokes to gain an upper hand.

The government method was large square blocks while the local metis method was long narrow settlement that gave everyone access to the river. Mars gets extra aggressive energy by rulership of the 6th house while Mercury brings a revolutionary nature to the critical activities of Mars. The real transformation brought on by this combination, however, is happening to the local costumes as the aggressive manipulations of the details and the measurements. All this gets extra strength since the Moon is also in the 4th house. From the moon chart this Mars is even more clearly representing revolution both through effort and activity as the ruler of the 3rd and 10th houses. And of course Mars is also the natural karaka for these two intentional forces. Oct 1878 – Oct 1879 Was a significant Mercury Mars Period when Louis Riel went to the USA and even became a US citizen as he fled persecution from the Canadian Army. Venus in Hasta

“What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.”

— Oscar Wilde

“Work is the curse of the drinking class.”

—Oscar Wilde

“War is progress. Peace is stagnation.”

—Hegel

Venus is debilitated here but gets a considerable boost when in conjunction with Mercury or Mercury is in Libra. Complicates relationships by reducing trust, making people fight for love, and seeing the beauty in exploitation. They love to be of service, the women, sisters and wives love to be of service and there can be considerable imbalance in social relationships with women. Women are most likely to experience this as exploitation and female health problems. Both sexes tend to objectify love, sex and beauty. Men are especially attracted to their servers, servants, service personnel and often get in relationships with women who work for them or are of a lesser caste, young, and virginal. They might become distant from their wives after the birth of children. Women with this position have a hard time to recognise their inner beauty and are prone to objectifying themselves. There is this idea that they cannot negotiate on a fair battle field, a woman may not feel pretty enough, so she wears a shorter skirt. A man may feel that he cannot get a woman on his level so looks for women who are easy or can be purchased. This is often depicted as a position that gives some objectification of women, but it’s actually an objectification of love and beauty as images to be projected rather than truths in themselves.

There are almost always imbalances in the relationship, but there are many opportunities where this debilitation can be reversed by Mercury. They could work in financial services, deal with luxury health care or wellness resorts. They might have a love for logic, debate, argumentation, war. They often have a mismatch in their style somehow, they have an appreciation for the imbalances of life. Women in their life may be exploited for their service and labour. Relationships may be practical and convenient. They often fall in love with “the under dog.” This love for the underdog goes out into the whole world as their senses look out through a watery emotionalised filter of Hasta. Just listen to a few Kenny Rogers love songs and you’ll know what I mean. But very often this love does not fix anything, it just masks the suffering. Depending on the houses involved, they may have to fight for ownership of those things. They can also gain from their exploited status receiving free gifts from family or government and they might sometimes seek to exploit their own exploited status as they recognise the value of it.

“The system of logic is the realm of shadows, the world of simple essentialities, freed of all sensuous concretion. To study this science, to dwell and to labor in this realm of shadows, is the absolute culture and discipline of consciousness.”

—Hegel

Moon rules Hasta; gets too attached to their work, to what they build, cannot let go of their work or with what they have done. They hoard a little bit; they don’t want to share the work. In the 6th house it can make a hand doctor. Using the hands to kill or beat people. Use their hands to serve criminals: steal, rob, kill. Hands will be darker than the rest of the body (especially 3rd house). Movement of the hands may be slow. Long slow projects completed by hand. Hard work by hand will bring good karma.

The hard work that must be done. They can tap into ancient knowledge, spiritual knowledge. Saturn does a lot of repetitive hard work, practical knowledge of the hands. Long hours with their hands. Servants will have big hands, pain in the hands, they might be very good with their hands. Give gloves to your servants. Mechanical technical work, farming. Too attached to their work and the projects they create. They don’t let go easily.

“Each of us has his cowardice. Each of us is afraid to lose, afraid to die. But hanging back is the way to remain a coward for life. The Way to find courage is to seek it on the field of conflict. And the sure way to victory is willingness to risk one’s own life.”

Astrology Case study – Justine Trudeau: Prime Minister of Canada

Asc: Leo/Magha – Leo ascendant likes to have centre of attention. His Sun is in 5th house which amplifies this trait considerably. On one hand, Leo does not like to serve under anyone, on the other hand, Magha, the constellation represented by a throne is also from the serving class. This suggests a Magha king is a servant of the people. The exchange between 6th and 10th house leaving Saturn in the 10th and Venus in 6th will confirm this.

Magha ascendant people are typically proud of their ancestry and may come from a line of social or political leaders. Otherwise they are likely to find and adhere to a specific spiritual lineage. The main motivation of this nakshatra is wealth.

His Moon is in Revati which means “wealthy.” Revati is the last constellation and has Pushan, visionary guide who leads us to our next incarnation. Pushan is also lord of flocks and herds; a nurturer. Revati is ultimately a sattvic spiritual nakshatra. The moon here loves travel and may be very comfortable while on the road. Because of the Jupiter (ruler of Pisces) and Mercury (ruler of Revati) these people are able to combine expansive thought with Mercury’s attention to detail. This makes them intelligent and gives interest in mysticism and ancient cultures.

His moon in also in the eight house which brings difficulties by mother. One may not know what to expect. However in adult life one become quite comfortable and cool in the face of sudden events and unexpected occurrences.

With Jupiter and Mercury in 4th house it’s likely he grew up with several Mather figures; at least one of which he might have developed a close maternal relationship with. Saturn and Mercury aspecting 4th house is known to give step mothers.

We also find an exchange between the 4th and 8th house; between Jupiter and Mars. This also reconfirmes the difficulties with Mother and suggest also some lack of relationship with father since Mars rules the 9th house of father and sits in the 12th house from the 9th.

When we look to the 9th house from the moon to see his emotional relationship with father we find ourselves looking at the 4th house from Lagna. Although his parents may have been distant and unpredictable, they still provided him with adequate maternal and paternal nourishment and guidance so that he was not adversely affected by it in a significant way. It should be noted that the 4/10 angle between sun and moon suggest merely a working relationship between his parents.

By strength and spiritual content of 8th house it seems reasonable that he also believes in Astrology and may use it for gain in some way. He may get such beliefs also from his mother who likely followed some kind of occult of mystical path.

Wealth:

Mercury rules 2nd and 11th; both wealth houses and sits in the house of property and real-estate so there is sure to be wealth in this field. As well as from parents, vehicles. Scorpio in 4th can signify property inheritance. The exchange between with 8th house Firth highlights this effect. Considering the exchange is between 5th and 9th owners it’s quite strong and beneficial. Jupiter also aspects his own 8th house which represents inheritance as well as hidden wealth and spouse’s family.

His 8th house gets added power by housing Mars who is Yoga Karaka planet in his chart (which offers some special fortune in its period). It’s known to be the least likely period for death, the effects give rise in our life. In his case, with Mars in the 8th house he will have to deal with unexpected eruptions of force. One astrologer friend once suggested he could become a war time leader during Mars Dasha (Nov 2022 – Nov 2029). Considering he became Prime Minister in Moon period, his Mars period should give him great power via unexpected events in the home, he will himself be prone to sudden accident or injury. The moon mars conjunction in the 8th makes him thrive in emergency situations. By the time Mars Jupiter period finishes he will be a new man.

Moon Venus period could bring some unexpected scandal or workplace impropriety. Sixth house Venus rules the 10th house of reputation and the 3rd house of news and announcements. This is certain to bring obstacles related to women in the workplace or from small group settings. Venus and Rahu together in the 6th house can give some addiction to sweets and pleasures; self medication. Moon mars also aspect the 2nd house suggest a taste for alcoholic beverages, spice and seafood (salt).

But I’ve digressed considerably; I was discussing wealth and entitlement. He is fortunate in both areas. And since Saturn aspects his own 7th house, and because Saturn (7th owner) ties the marriage together with a veneer if social respectability in the 10th house, it unlikely he will face divorce.

I mentioned a bit about Venus and his dietary habits. When we put that together with a predominately pitta constitution via Leo Lagna and lagnesha (ruler of Lagna) in a fiery house, we start to eat a picture of his health. Leo ascendant people are known for heart problems, poor diet and always being centre stage will take a tole on the heart. Mars is also with moon in the 8th house which will make a person very emotionally reactive and competitive though they might like to hide this side of themselves.

We also find Venus and Moon in dussthana house (illness or problem causing houses: 6, 8, 11, and sometimes 3). Since they are both watery planets is sure he will suffer thru bladder and kidneys. Mars in 8th is karaka for accidents. Capricorn in 6th and Saturn in 10th have to give some problem with his knees despite the beneficial exchange. Rahu and 8th lord are also aspecting the 10th house. From the moon we also have the 6th lord in 10th house. There could be some inbalance in the skeletal system since Capricorn and the 10th rule this as well.

But when we discuss the health relating with this chart, we have to keep in mind that Lagna, lagnesha and sun are all powerfully placed without strong aspects from any malefics. His moon is less auspicious, however here we find the aspect of Jupiter (wisdom) and 5th owner (intelligence and sport) offering his guidance. So generally we will find the native healthy.

Venus and Rahu in Shravana nakshatra in the 6th house will most surely give problems with reproductive organs which is Shravanas secondary body part; the primary body part related to Shravana is the ears, which are also dignified by the 3rd and 11th House; and Jupiter. Venus is 3rd owner in 6th so it’s likely that he suffers acute ear infections and due to Jupiter’s affliction may suffer hearing impairment (especially in the right ear: 3rd from Lagna and from moon).

While we are talking about health, a comment should be made about 8th house as well. Longevity, chronic illness, sudden shocking events (accidents) and death. Moon is making vipreet raja yoga which extends the lifespan and gives benefit from situations of loss. Mars (9th owner also in this chart) can also give one the ability to act quickly; good reflexes. Again one could laud the benefits of a strong first house and owner. This is really the best defense we have for all aspects of life: strong physical health and quite literally a good head on our shoulders, and a strong personality. The moon here gives knowledge of explosive secrets (mars and Ketu both aspect which can relate with very sudden combustion (mars) and expansion (Ketu) (moon and Pisces both relate with liquid as well).

Two other house that have considerable influence in our life, the 5th and the 9th have a unique pattern in this chart: the owners of each of these houses fall back one house. This suggest losses to 5th and 9th house articles as well as of the articles of the signs that are in 5th and 9th. So separation from children and father; but also loss of productivity and perhaps loss of faith.

I wanted to talk next about the faith of this man which is largely ruled by Mars who rules 9th from Lagna and from moon and sits in the 8th house with the moon. Mars brings his dynamic activity to ones faith; Aries can make him very independent and self going in his faith, he will not follow blindly. The relationship of 9th and 12th lords in the 8th house will certainly give him some mystical beliefs and tantric practices that he keeps behind closed doors. Mars will likely keep some distance between himself and his teachers, but moon is showing a strong emotional connection. Mars relation with 9th makes a spiritual warrior who is not afraid to proclaim his own path. He certainly suffers with anger and competitive feelings where there should be brotherhood. Mars can make him somewhat emotionally reactive so it’s possible he will find his guru this way (by some emotional reaction of time and space and mixture of energies from the moment). His own action is likely to be as unpredictable his emotional life. Due to beneficial yogas the outcome would typically be favorable. Once again we must consider the strength of the Lagna and the chart as a whole. This man is a king, a prime minister, who comes from a line of prime ministers and captains of industry; this inner instinct of this man is well honed on the art of war.

Moon -Jupiter period saw him win a the election for Prime minister. Moon Mars he left a teaching job to begin the competition. It seems reasonable that he used dirty tactics in Moon Rahu in order to get the Moon Jupiter outcome.

Sun period saw him mostly engage in sport and find various ways to sharpen his intelligence and strengthen his body. Sun-Venus would have related with his boxing career. Moon Mars can give him water sports. Sun in 5th will always like individual competition. The sun period basically gave him everything his soul would need for this incarnation.

He is currently in Moon-Mercury; he will likely suffer some disattachment in Ketu period. It seems to me there is an election coming up? Moon Venus will also be a bad time for his reputation. Some scandal is highly likely.

A search of his biographical timeline shows us the following:

He was eldest child with two younger brothers. One dies in an avalanche while skiing in 1998 (Venus Jupiter). He also received his second BA, this time in Education. He completed his first degree in literature in 1994 (Venus Rahu).

His parents divorced in April 1984 (Ketu Jupiter). He married a childhood friend in May 2005 (Venus mercury). His children were born Oct 2007 (Sun Mars); February 2009 (Sun Jupiter); and February 2014 (Moon Mars). His father does in 2000 (Venus Saturn) and the eulogy gained great attraction.

He started an engineering degree in 2002 (Venus Saturn or Venus Mercury) but did not finish. It seems reasonable that he likely quit in Venus Ketu period.

In 2007 he stared in a CBC series and also gained a liberal nomination. This covered the whole early part of Sun period (Sun sun; sun moon, sun mars).

In 2012 he had his most famous boxing match against another elected official for charity and won that match easily (Sun Venus).

When Moon period started in 2013 he was elected leader of the liberal party and in Moon Jupiter period of 2015 was elected Prime Minister of Canada. He published a book in the gap year, 2014 (moon mars or moon Rahu), about being the son of the Prime Minister.

Astrology Case Study: Self Portrait

Male

07 Dec 1976

09:10am

Calgary, AB, Canada

Moon is in Mrigrashira3 in the 8th house gives writing/research about astrology, occult, Tantra, secrets and the like.

Mars, Sun & Ascendant are all in Scorpio sign (Jyeshta Nakshatra) which highlights occultist leanings and, thru Indra’s rulership, gives a sense of divine right to go forth on ones mission; often a foolish and prideful mission. Jupiter is lending aspectual influence of 2nd and 5th to this ascendant placement.

Saturn in 9th is said to destroy what the Gita called the triple gates to hell. This Saturn in Cancer 9th also gives a very traditional belief relating with the rhythms of nature. Gives self sacrifice, faith thru experience; hard luck. Ketu in the 6th allows one to easily be of service to the disconnected people of this world who wish to move forward. Gives high tolerance for complaints and toxicity.

Scorpio ascendant with Aries in 6th are certainly going to suffer from heat and inflammation. A strong Mars even more so; and aspecting the Sun has no doubt influenced my broken bones, fevers, head-aches, exhaustion (or occasional burn out). Strong pitta constitution.

Ketu in 6th can causes one to disregard such “minor” complaints, inflammations, and accidents (“no big deal”). This Ketu has probably influenced a few Doctors to overlook things, and occasionally misdiagnose.

Venus, oh Venus, for Scorpio natives he gives an incredible imagination for relationship matters. A love for what is far away and loss of what is close at hand. In this chart Venus also gives a very pleasant brother/sisterly rapport with women from my 3rd house. This is what Shakti said to Vishnu: “you can be my brother,” and then she went off with Shiva.

I once asked my teacher: “Where is this traditional art and design that should be going on with this kind of Saturn/Venus 3rd house influence?” He flipped thru my note book full of charts drawn out surrounded by notes and other divisional charts. Very traditional repetitive design made the notebook look like art.

This Saturn/Venus also contributes to a love for the rules of communications and grammar, as well as influencing history, to say nothing of astrology, map and blue-print reading. And of course working with my hands with labour work is certainly influenced by this. I love this kind of work and have huge respect for the labouring classes. It could be noted with this Saturn that I’m also a strong follower of Shiva, Rudra, lord of beasts.

I mentioned communications and grammar which has more to do with Mercury who, from the 2nd house allows me to value communication. This Mercury in 7th from Moon highlights the sibling quality to many of my relationships; as well as my preference for “hand-shake” agreements.

Jupiter period brought studies in language (English grammar, French, Hindi, even touched on some Spanish and Urdu) history and philosophy (first western, some chinese, and great depth into Indian philosophy. I managed a restaurant, worked in a book store, and attained good pay and position as a project manager in civil construction thru the middle part of Jupiter period. Jupiter-Moon, Jupiter-Mars were golden years of making good money 6 months and traveling 6 months. When Rahu came, everything was lost: career was gone, relationships were finished, my past might as well have burnt to the ground. Foreign ambitions arose.

Throughout Jupiter period I had many love affairs, enjoyed life, squandered my money on the “finer thing in life”: books and education, good food and drink, comfortable travel. Always generous with money. Jupiter-Mercury: father was killed in a workplace fire. Jupiter-Moon: met my Guru. Jupiter -Mars: received first jolt of shakti that made me full devotee in a flash. Jupiter – Rahu I had an ill fated marriage.

About the time Saturn dasha started I received a second jolt of shakti and Vedic astrology became clear to me. My path as a yogi, a teacher, had become a samskara itself. I began to fully incorporate the sadhu path of India with my western background; following a belief in self-sacrifice for the greater good. Renunciation has been strong. Focus has become firm. Will, like iron. Luck making me harder and drier.

One would expect some stable prosperity from Mercury in the 2nd house. But there has been little in my life, even when I was making money I squandered it; much of it on travel adventure and education, which I have typically also left incomplete; without collecting the fruit. Money is typically just enough to keep me going.

Rahu in 12th likes to liberate me from everything. He wants to make backroom deals and gain recognition for foreign travel. Rahu period in my adolescence was intense. His ambition can be overwhelming. He has taught me to disattach from the result of my activity. By continually bringing me face to face with that which I cannot control, I have learned to let go. This is why Rahu in 12 can be considered good for those in a spiritual path. His ambition goes to meditation, understanding the subconscious, going into isolation.

Saturn period everything changed: divorce became final, bankruptcy became final, other relationship came to an end, astrology came together like it was always there, the sense of responsibility towards higher knowledge I had been gifted. Austerity and self sacrifice; a sense of service and duty towards the masses. My reaction to objects of the senses dried up. Teaching yoga and astrology have become my main drive and occupation.

Saturn-Mercury I went back to Canada, fractured three vertebrae, broke five ribs and then my ankle. Lived as and unknown in the forest for Canadian winter. Maintained a sound mind and the good luck to find a beautiful home at an infamous eco-village.

As Saturn Ketu begins I am in Goa, India. A rather unusual place for me.

Some general considerations from my chart:

Health: Good health, lots of accidents and injuries; broken bones and blood. Head-aches, fevers, grouchiness, (tantrums when I was very young). Kidney stones, smoker, drank until end of Jupiter period.

Parents: some distance from both at different periods of life. Also close to both in different ways. Father killed in fiery work accident 2003. Mother worked government job as Forensic Psych. nurse. Moved around a lot as a child. At 70 she is still traveling and moving home consistently.

Home life: Constantly moving since birth. Little sense of home and no answer to the question of where I’m from (mostly the middle part of Canada). Moved to Edmonton, Ab late Rahu period and that remained a “home base” of sorts until end of Jupiter period. Recently lived two years on the West Coast if Vancouver Island; which is the most settled I’ve been in over 15 years. Have been most contentedly returning to and staying in Varanasi, India since 2008.

Travel: I travelled extensively all around Canada and some USA for all of my life until 2007; then I went to India and spent at least six months per year outside of Canada. Made a homey-feel in Varanasi, fell in love with the Narmada River valley. Also travelled Central America, Thailand, Turkey, Egypt, Ireland and quickly visited another half dozen places around the world.

I’m writing this both for myself and for students of astrology to help the learning process. I hope to continue to add to this. I’m happy to answer any questions.
