Rahu in the houses

Rahu in 1st house

Unusual, fascinating, bi-polar, outcast, deformed. Their personality is boundary breaking and they often feel special or chosen in some way. Thei personality may show some inconsistency like mania, depression or bi-polar. Some kind of physical deformity is possible. This could be something subtle or it could be major depending on the power of lagnesha and other factors. These natives often have the ability to fascinate people, and since Rahu rules over magnetism, people are often drawn in by this fascination. They may be attractive or repulsive, but it’s likely they will manage to blend both of these traits into the moment.

They are often non-conformist living on the fringes of society or freely mixing with all people regardless of social position. They are often rebels without a cause putting themselves before everyone and everything else. They are likely to do almost anything to be noticed.

Many may be affected by fatal alcohol syndrome or other debilities from the womb. Rahu can be recognised by wide set eyes, scanty hair (one the head, body and face), a smoky appearance, some oily or snakelike qualities, and certainly there will be something foreign (mixed race) looking about them compared to the typical features of their family. Some believe that the father could be someone other than the mother’s husband. At the very least this is likely to be questioned at some level.

Rahu in 2nd house

Lies, falser values, corrupt banking, unusual image, creepy smile, impure food. Image is everything to these people. There is usually something unusual about the face they show to the world: the way they speak, dress, the stories they tell, the lineage they claim to be from. Something about their image just doesn’t quite fit who they really are. They may have something unusual or deformed about their face, mouth, eyes, or hair style.

They like to project wealth that they don’t have and debt is a common outcome. Money really does have a way of burning a hole in their pocket. They have no sense of the true value of anything and they have no qualms about appropriating someone else’s hard earned income. Some kind of hoarding is also common with this placement, and since they are incapable of properly judging value, their hoards are usually filled with worthless junk.

Their speech usually comes across as insincere (if not outright lies). But they are often great storytellers with a liberal use of improper language. Speech impediments are not uncommon with this placement.  They are prone to illnesses of over consumption and likely eat meat and drink alcohol in the quest for what they believe the good life to be.

They can be the worst kinds of Hippocrates claiming false lineage and never living up to the values they claim to follow. This actually allows them to do pretty good in society for a while, but eventually the smoke clears and they are exposed for their lies and corruption.

Rahu in 3rd house

Fake new, criminal gang, mixed messages, dirty mentality, false courage. These people can often be found mixing amongst unusual groups and possibly criminal gangs. They are so fascinated by teams and tribal affiliations that they get in way over their heads. They want to be seen as special because of these group affiliations and they can be highly manipulative of their group, tribe, team or gang. And often these groups are on some kind of mission to bend the rules or break taboos.

They may be famous for their urgent and ambitious messaging style, but as the smoke clears (and it always does), their false reports will be plain for all to see. They are masters at harnessing the power of social media and some might even be effective hackers. Their mixed messages and foggy communication brings a pronounced confusion to interpersonal relationships as others wonder just what kind of message they were trying to send out. Their gestures are often exaggerated in some way; this includes a kind of insincere communication style.

Rahu 3rd often signifies smoking, or the inhalation of thick oily smoke that will have its effect on the lungs. Ear problems like tinnitus can be seen with this placement and it’s likely they will have some kind of deformity of the shoulders, hands and arms. Crooked fingers and knobby knuckles is the most common manifestation of this placement.

We see a person’s mentality in the 3rd house so Rahu here makes them unusually often criminal in their intent since they don’t play by the same rules as the rest of us. Rahu’s effect on the kama trine ensures that these people will break the rules to satisfy their desires. They can be exceedingly courageous, but in many ways it’s a false courage that tends to get them in over their heads. Hobbies are also seen in the 3rd house so they will likely have unusual, smokey and boundary breaking hobbies. Since small commercial ventures are also a part of 3rd house we can also find these natives doing some kind of shady business.

The 3rd house is the first upachaya and Rahu is said to do well in these houses. Some astrologers say that he is exalted in gemini, and it’s true one can do well in the material world with this placement, but it’s the kind of doing well that comes with the suffering of the insatiable desire to fulfil their desires. This position works well for used cars salesmen, cheats, media activists. [Note: regarding journalism or messaging that the Sun will seek after truth and Venus will seek balance.]

Rahu in 4th house

Boundary issues, unstable foundations, learning disabilities, environmental pollution, no sense of belonging. This is a very difficult placement since it affects the very foundation of our life, mother, home, education. Mother is often ill or absent from a person’s early life. At best she would have been inconsistent in her motherly nurturing affections. There may be some kind of unconventional parentage that disrupted the early rhythms, routines and habits. These people are often raised on the wrong side of the tracks, in factory districts, on or near polluted lands.

As children these people were often disruptful in the classroom and it’s possible they suffered from some kind of learning disability. If they get to university it’s likely that this too will be disrupted by some unique set of circumstances.  It’s often due to the unusual circumstances of their early childhood that they will have difficulty fitting in anywhere. They often go away from their birth place and live amongst other cultures in order to feel any kind of comfort, but any true sense of relaxation, contentment or release will elude them. These natives often remain renters and if they do have home or land they often come by it from false pretence: bank fraud, squatters, constant problems with landlords and caretakers who do not have proper boundaries will never provide the kind of foundation needed to establish solid roots in a place or cultural community. Some will seek to defend the land rights of others. And this position is ripe for cultural appropriation.

Nannies, babysitters, step parents, early childhood teachers, gardeners and others who take on caretaking and parental roles without being fully legitimate will be seen with Rahu in 4th. Ultimately these people never learned proper boundaries and will invade the physical and emotional space of others and do not have the skills to keep others from doing the same to them. No matter what they do to put up boundaries there will always be a weak point somewhere.

Rahu in the 5th house

Drama queen, gambler, forbidden lovers, narcissist. These people want all the attention, they feed off the attention and the drama they create, and their false sense of entitlement allows them to create a lot of drama. Social media influencers and others who project any kind of fantasy life that is really just smoke and mirrors would have this kind of combination (5th owner in 12th house would certainly ensure the fantasy part).

They are gamblers and risk takers. They could be the grandmother cheating at cards, the politician accused of insider trading or the sports fixer seeking advantage. They often want to get some kind of advantage from their staged creative expressions. They like to break the rules just for fun. They are often obsessed with the idea of romantic love and they could be serial daters or tinder professionals. Their desperate search for “true love” often leads them down the road to heartbreak. This is also the position of the forbidden lover and illegitimate children (mars aspect can bring an abortion while Jupiter’s aspect can bring many (often adopted)  children. These people will often use their children to get privilege. In poor chart we can find welfare moms and other kinds of negligent parents who use their children for their own selfish ends.

They are fascinated by that slight increase in heart rate that comes switch gambling and romance. Rahu here can also give someone an irregular heart beat (especially if sun is involved).  It’s often said that these natives have very sharp minds, but they often prove to be more clever than truly intelligent as Rahu in 5th can cause them to miscalculate (especially if Rahu is influencing mercury as well), make a mistake or obfuscate the matter somehow.

Creativity and originality are seen in the 5th so all of this gets a little smoky, certainly unique, taboo and boundary breaking. They can misrepresent their productivity and they are all about productivity: more and more and more, it’s never enough. And the eventual disposal of the smoke will reveal the deeper truths and in the end they often end up without any real friends, just snakes and backbiters.

Rahu in the 6th house

Provocation, exploitation, playing the victim. The 6th house is the 2nd upachaya house where Rahu is said to do well. He is often called the king maker in this position. He’s at home in this house of crime and accusation where he can exploit people’s vulnerabilities for their own gain. They can be masters at playing the victim role and know just how to exploit and manipulate a bad situation. Because of Rahu’s smoky ways it can be difficult to distinguish the exploited from the exploiter. These people make very good corrupt officials capable of engineering scandals while maintaining their own innocence. Virgo is the innocent virgin and this status, though likely untrue, is used to gain advantage somehow. They might be working behind the scenes as disaster capitalists pretending to help while exploiting the situation for maximum personal benefit. Ambulance chasers (lawyers), Dr Feel-good (drug dealers), bullies and others who seek to exploit the marginalised people will have this placement. Sometimes it’s the subtleties of a healthcare career that thieves in unbalanced situations. Things are never what they seem when Rahu is involved.

Rahu in the 6th might the the provocateur who loves to start fights, poke the sleeping bear and lure people into the trap. It’s the young vixen in the short skirt attracting the wrong kind of attention and claiming innocence. It’s the” protester” instigating violence to justify a heavy police crackdown.  Rahu in 6th house is fascinated by drugs, crime, debt, war, disagreement, prostitution, illness and every kind fo imbalance. This can be a very dangerous place for Rahu to get in over his head. Someone may be using medicinals improperly and will be inconsistent in following any kind of therapy. They often avoid personal responsibility at all costs.

They may have unusual enemies or illnesses, stomach problems and digestive issues are common with this Rahu. They are likely to prefer (or even practice) alternative forms of healing which can go either way.  We also see peoples pets and service personnel in the 6th house. Both of which will likely be exotic or unusual in some way. And it’s possible they will complain that “good help is hard to find.”

Rahu in the 7th house

Taboo relationships, deals with the devil, people pleaser. Rahu in the 7th house is notorious for difficult relationships. These people tend to think they need a partner to save them and they will agree to almost anything to get it. Fulfilling their agreements is quite another matter, but they are often offering more than they can do or they are saying they can do things that they cannot.

They like taboo relationships, exotic partners are common: cultural mixing, same-sex partners, religious differences, large gaps in age, polygamy or open relationships are just some of the possibilities with this. These days it can even lead to a kind of devout celibacy (which is certainly strange in this day and age). Cheating, or being cheated on is common. They seek agreement and will use any means to get it. It can be very difficult for them to say no and once they’ve compromised they often find they’ve agreed to more than they bargained for. They often cannot see the agreement for what it is or their partner for who they are. And the terms of the contract are soon broken.

This is another position that can give illegal business practices. They are more than willing to make a deal with the devil to get ahead. This is like the oil business or any other pollution generating business. But every kind of dodgy deal can come out of this Rahu placement.

There is something about these people that is out of tune, they lack balance and harmony and seek equity through unequal terms. They can be very diplomatic and counsellors and advisors who break the rules or deal with taboo topics might  have this in their chart.  This Rahu can cause fertility problems or sexual debility (check Moon, Venus & Mars).

Rahu in the 8th house

This is a very dangerous place for Rahu since his fascination leads a person thru the field of sex, death, catastrophe, guilt and transformation. They often like kinky or unusual sex and sexual partners. They can try all kinds of crazy things and still not be satisfied. They can become sex addicts with this (but we need to see more than this to confirm). They can take part in all kinds of risky behaviour and will likely cheat death several times before pushing their luck just a little too far.

They may be obsessed with intimacy seeking to know what lies just below the surface. This can make them good researchers or detectives. Negative placements with this Rahu may cause them to stock their prey. They can be very sneaky and move around undetected.

Their focus will be on the wealth of others: their partners’ wealth, the value of trusts, the hunger for inheritance, or merely for easy unearned wealth. Sometimes these people marry rich, get a disappointing inheritance, or live off the money or trusts, but they might also be the one who merely leeches off their partner; much better at taking than giving.

They can be good in emergency situations, but similar urges as those seen with Ketu in 6th come up here as they seek to gain advantage thru catastrophic circumstances, emergencies, secrets. And secrets are a big part of the 8th house. This goes along with research and detective work, but there are many other ways they might use the secrets they know for their own advantage. This can lead them to occult, astrology, tarot and other methods of divination.

My teacher calls Rahu in 8th, the “wanderer.” Their fascination leads them to cross the bridge, go to the other side of the tracks, enter the forbidden forest, and go overseas. Since the 8th house is all about sudden events, it’s never long before their fascination has moved on to something else.

Rahu in the 9th house

Rahu in the 9th house hungry for the big picture. They want faith and philosophy, they are often travellers going to places that are sacred to them. These pilgrimages are likely to be unusual like their beliefs; but they will be passionate about their beliefs often holding them regardless of any proof in the contrary. They are often insincere Hippocrates who often assume the role of priest, professor or father figure without having the correct credentials. Rahu makes expedient use of religion in this position and will claim to follow whichever path will get them what they want or elevate their social standing. They often feel as though they are uniquely positioned to expound the higher truths despite their confusion on the topic. They can take on the external image of spirituality much easier than they can acquire the internal feeling of faith. Of course this kind of spiritual posturing can lead to a “holier than you” attitude.

This can be a very political or ideological position as one seeks out the winning doctrine. The actual ideology doesn’t matter so much as the benefits that can be gained by professing that ideology.

There is likely to be something unusual about the father figure and it’s possible there will even be some confusion over who one’s real father really is. Guru’s and mentors will be unusual in some way: often false prophets or fake gurus.

Rahu in the 10th house

This is the third upachaya house that Rahu is said to do well in. His fascination for leadership is very good at climbing the ladder while skipping a few steps in between. They tend to get positions of leadership without following the usual stepwise process. Of course they get in over their heads, but they also learn fast. There can be all kinds of disruptions in their career, but their ambition rarely falters.

They will likely be seen as outcasts in their career and there are likely to be some stains upon their reputation. They could achieve the top spot for some time, but they usually fall before they are ready. They can also be the co-worker who seems to assume the role of the boss even if they really don’t have any legitimate claim to authority. But some people will also be known for their taboo or boundary breaking activity. What exactly they do can be hard to see through the smoke and mirrors, but they will fascinate people by their actions.

Since social reputation is important to them, they seek to be seen and known and have little concern for home and comfort. They will easily take a job transfer for a better position. They may work irregular hours or face other irregularities in the office. These are the people who are also likely to abuse their position of power somehow, or perhaps they will merely sow confusion.   They can suffer from problems related to the skeletal system or the knees.

Rahu in the 11th house

This is the 4th upachaya house that Rahu excels in. As the house of gain and profit, Rahu injects a strong dose of greed. The profit motive has become the great illusion for these people. This can be a very financially rewarding position for Rahu. Money money money everywhere and they don’t mind bending the rules to make it.

They want more than anything to appear as a success, especially financially successful (Rahu in 2nd house has some similarities); they want to be seen as someone who has achieved their hopes and dreams in life. But is you ask them about their hopes and goals in life their answer will be unclear. They don’t really know what they want, or what they want is some strange unusual thing that can never be achieved. Rahu in Libra here might say they want world peace without having any plan to get it, but at some point they might just make the claim that they have achieved it. In any case, they will have the power to fascinate people with their hopes and dreams.

The network is found in the 11th house. This gives Rahu a lot of strength here as his obsessive ways and technological acumen work very well with the massive source of network associates. These days in network interconnectivity it’s a very powerful place for Rahu. People will be fascinated by ones network of friends. They will be an unusual sort who feel entitled to challenge boundaries. They can be very good community organisers.

Problems to the lower leg or irregularities in the nervous system or connective tissue can cause hurdles in a person’s life.

Rahu in the 12th house

As the house of loss Rahu is fairly happy here since everything he eats passes thru without satisfaction. This becomes the plight of this natives expenditure: lots of wastage and little satisfaction. At best, money will be spent on strange unusual things but still they will not get to enjoy them. It will be much the same as purchasing smoke, which is actually indicated by this Rahu: expenses on things that go up in smoke. Rahu’s sign and sign lord will, of course, have a lot of say in these matters.

The 12th house is also the final moksha house and it’s the most well known house for liberation so these people may be fascinated by the freedom of liberation and are unlikely to be encumbered by stuff. They can just give things away and lose everything. They cannot get enough loss and they experience a lot of this; they will break the boundaries of proper expenditure. Much of it will go to outcasts or be spent on improper things. One of the nice things about Rahu in the 12th house is that those shadowy expenses mostly remain private; that whole Rahuvian shadow side remains hidden, not out of guilt that comes from the 8th house hidden, but because the things of the 12th house are essentially lost in the universal ocean.

We also see a person’s inner quest for spirituality in the 12th house (the 9th house has more to do with our external expressions of spirituality). With Rahu here they are fascinated and hungry for the inner spiritual experience. As the 4th from the 9th it is the foundation for the external expressions of spirituality. They will build an unusual foundation for their beliefs, or perhaps merely a foreign foundation that can be unclear.

But dreams, fantasies and imagination are also a part of the 12th house and these things don’t have to follow any protocol; the 12th house is already unreal so Rahu works pretty good here. This Rahu can be good for the imagination, dreaming big, really big, and having unusual or even taboo fantasies. It’s likely that others will not see these 12th house things in a person clearly so there may be some fascination generated in the public about their foreign travels or getaways. These kinds of things will certainly be unique.

The most obvious thing about Rahu in the 12th house is travel: foreign travel or just getting away from it all. They can experience much solitude or isolation in life. And it’s likely they will seek advantage from qualities relation to foreignness, dreams, meditation. But further fascination could be there for hospitals, retreats, prisons, asylums, and the rest of these places (or people relating to the places) represented in the 12th house.

The deformity on the body is most likely to occur on the foot.

2017 -2018 Transit predictions for Aries, Taurus, Gemini & Cancer: Saturn in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Libra, Rahu in Cancer & Ketu in Capricorn

T
The original photograph of the Sleeping Dog’s

So much has changed since my last post. I should appoligize for the delay and thank those of you who reminded me to update my transit predictions.

Saturn is in Sagittarius, Rahu and Ketu in Cancer and Capricorn respectively, and Jupiter is in Libra. The others are making their way more quickly. The Moon, as I write this, is only 3 degrees from exact conjunct with Rahu in Cancer (as I hit publish, this conjunction is exact). There is certain,y some relation between this Rahu in Cancer, the sign of home and defensive perimeters, and all of this independence movement in the world. Saturn’s aspect from Scorpio would have been acting as a somewhat restrictive force, but with Saturn’s movement to Sagittarius this restriction is removed. We will have to watch for Mars to make his way thru Sagittarius, Capricorn (March 7, 2018 & May 2, 2018 respectively until November 5, 2018) as well as his next pass thru his own sign of Aries (beginning Feb 5, 2019). I expect that it will be a particularly hot summer of 2018: heatwaves, drought, as well as the political situation internationally (war, independence movements, the refugee crisis, and every kind of sudden, unexpected and potentially explosive). As you read these horoscopes for each sign, try to keep the world in mind as much as you think about these in a personal way.

In any case:

Aries

Aries is the natural horoscope where the signs and the houses match. Aries natives will find themselves blessed by Jupiter’s aspect to ascendant. This can bring positive personal grow and prosperity that occasionally manifests itself on the belt-line. Guru’s aspects to the 11th house can bring multiple sources of profit and gain as well as expending ones hopes and friends circles. Considering this aspect is coming from the 7th house, Jupiter in Libra can be very good for business allowing for multiple partnerships and contracts. This multiplying effect in the 7th house is good for business, and positive for single people, but for marriage it can be inconvenient for those devoted to monogamy. However, since Jupiter owns the 12th house, all of these 7th house matters could merely be matters of the imagination or expenditure of our life force. Jupiter int he 7th house can be very good for personal motivation. It’s very likely you will find yourself in various situations where you have to look into yourself to discover the right and honest mode of action. Saturn’s aspect to the 3rd house could also cause several delays in your efforts due to wanting to act within the law while also maintaining your own personal sense of Justice as well. Saturn in the 9th house can bring hard luck materially, but spiritually, this Saturn can diminish our sense of greed, ego, and competitiveness (what the Bhagavad Gita calls the triple gates to hell) as well as bringing humility into our lives. The combination of Jupiter and Saturn aspecting the 11th house and the 3rd house is generally beneficial in our lives and the lives of our brothers, both younger and older. The 11th lord in the 9th house (11th from the 11th) is an auspicious placement as is the 9th lord in the 7th house (11th from 9th): gainful for brother, gainful for father, and potentially gain by luck for oneself.

Ketu and Saturn are sharing an aspect to Virgo in the 6th house but the nodes are otherwise acting without influence from the other slow moving planets. These aspects on the 6th house can suggest taking responsibility for ones own health as well as gaining some opportunity to do some kind of service or social work. You could find that your enemies and obstacles are dispersed and restricted thru this period. Rahu can increase your expenses and your impulses as well as personal sense of security. Rahu in the 4th hosue can, however, bring a false sense of security since the imposure might be inside your own home already. This Rahu can bring a change of residence and foreign travel and Saturn in the 9th can bring an arduous pilgrimage.

Taurus

Taurus natives are very likely to receive help and/or good advice to overcome their difficulties. This could very well come unearned or unexpected from a friend or thru mysticism or occult means. Jupiter can bring gains from difficult situations and enmity, but the gain does come with some pain. Jupiter’s 12th house aspect can signify hospital intervention, ashram, charity or even educational expenditures. Again, Jupiter comes with mixed blessings for Taurus natives. The mutual aspect of Saturn and Jupiter on the 10th house can be good for one’s career and public reputation, but you are very likely to have top work incredibly hard; possibly taking on extra work or extra duties or extra hours that you may, or may not, get pain for. Many of Jupiter’s lessons with be taught alongside Saturn thru this period; this is one reason for the mixed results. Saturn is actually yoga karaka planet for Taurus natives. Yoga karaka essentially means that Saturn is very likely to be the most influential planet for bringing good and lasting things into a persons life. He gets this title of Yoga karaka by virtue of his ownership of the 9th and 10th houses; commonly considered the 2 best houses of the chart; essentially ones dharma and ones Karma follow a similar path. As Saturn transits thru Sagittarius, Taurus natives could take a turn for the secretive, hidden, mysterious; a holder of shocking secrets that cannot be disclosed. It could be a good time to acquire assets that will add to your families prosperity, the nature of this prosperity will be determined by ones own chart. If you are in business, you could find yourself seeking to broaden you distributive network; perhaps you have some local product or service that you’d like offer to a broader regional, national or especially foreign clientele. Taurus natives are likely to seek fulfillment thru friend networks, negotiations, contracts and partnerships. Regardless of your success in these endeavours, fulfillment is rarely achieved by following Rahu. This can be a very materialistic placement for Rahu, or, at least your sense of motivation may be suspect. Ketu is in an excellent position to bring you into contact with some kind of new age spirituality and/or spiritual practice. For Taurus natives, Ketu in Capricorn can bring a unique twist to ones life and personality. It could be one of those periods in ones life that we look back on as being a little strange. Ketu in the 9th house can bring many blessings from our past lives.

Gemini

For Gemini natives, this could be a very good period for higher knowledge and education. Jupiter is blessing the 5th, 9th, 11th & 1st houses which can also be good for studentship, spiritual practices, gain of educated friends, as well as providing a broad base for profit. This can be a very good time for luck coincidences. Saturn in the 7th house can be very good for committed relationships, and taking responsibility for our agreements. This Saturn will be better for relationships that are already in progress since it’s likely to delay or restrict the forming of new contracts or partnerships. Jupiter can bring dating and romance in the 5th house, but Saturn effect will be felt in the negotiation/agreement making process. Jupiter will be giving some blessing to any risk taking activity, so I don’t suppose single people will shy from dating, nor, for that matter, will investors shy from risk taking. Jupiter in the 5th makes these kinds of things all about spreading it our; broadening; and expending the risk taking activity in order to diminish the risk. Jupiter does not jump into things impulsively and foolishly. Rahu is in the 2nd house which can be good for savings, assets and collections; but it can just as likely bring our ruin as we seek an image based on these things. Such a false image can be expensive and bring debt by Rahu’s 6th house aspect. Ketu in the 8th can lead to taking your secrets, dreams and those subtle signals from your ancestors for granted. There may be some disturbance in the home as ancestral spirits are disturbed; both repression and dispersal are possible. In any case, you are not likely to find much enjoyment in the home through this period. Since this home energy also connects with the mother, she might also face some difficulties in this period.

Cancer

Cancer natives will be dealing with Rahu in the 1st house. This period will be all about you; other people in your life will either have to toe the line or go away. This is not a good frame of mind for healthy, prosperous relationships. Ketu could throw all these past agreements to the wind which would likely have negative effect on friend circles and distributive networks. Younger brothers are likely to be adversely affected, of you could find yourself associating with (or making business with) criminal elements. However, this Rahu can also bring a profound spiritual experience, world travel, pilgrimage or some unique (and likely intense) spiritual; practice. This Rahu likes Rudra and Durga and these destructively powerful energies of the universe. Knowledge and productivity are likely to progress along these lines. Ketu, as I said, will enhance your feeling of isolation. If we look at all of this as well as Jupiter’s influence to he 12th house this becomes an especially potent time for spirituality, higher knowledge, travel, connecting with ancestor spirits and other experiences that will help to carry you into your future. Be wary of occasional lapses of judgment; be gentle on yourself. Jupiter can also enlarge your home from the 4th house; this could be a renovation or addition to the home structure itself, or it could be an increase in the number of people in the home (children, some family member coming to stay, or perhaps a new tenant or roommate). This sort of thing can sometimes be a little uncomfortable and put people a little on edge making them feel like some normal routine things now have to be completed under the cover of secrecy. Saturn in the 6th house can be beneficial for you as he gives a restrictive influence to your enemies and obstacles. However, the planet of service in the house of service will give you some service to perform in your life; such social service should be considered a great blessing in life.

2017 Transits for Cancer (very detailed)

7 This is essentially a tutorial for reading a chart in the style of Parashara using the transits for Cancer Lagna in 2017 as an example. In writing this, I have tried to consider the many students of astrology who contact me, but many people with even a mundane interest in astrology may be interested in the content.

Four more major transits this year:

Saturn will go back to Scorpio around June 20.

Rahu and Ketu will go into Cancer and Capricorn respectively on August 18.

Jupiter will more into Libra on the inauspicious day of September 11.

Saturn will go back to Sagittarius around October 26

2017 transits for Cancer Lagna (rising or moon sign)

Dharma 1st house: who we are; “ecce homo.” 5th house: what we create; “it’s alive.”9th house: what we believe: “by divine right.”

The first house is the self, the personality, the body, the head; it is who we are. Rahu will be moving into Cancer in August otherwise no other planet has direct influence over the first house, though of course each planet is measured from its position from 1st house. Rahu in first house can bring health problems, and if moon is in cancer it may bring some anxiety to the mind. Rahu influences individuality, and a sense of self-importance. Much of the transit effect depends on the position of Rahu in ones personal chart as well as the chart as a whole, but Rahu in first house makes one want to be recognized for who they are….. “SEE ME,” this Rahu says. I’ll discuss Ketu’s position when we talk about the Kama (desire) houses. From this first house Rahu looks at the 5th and 9th houses bringing some intensity to your productivity and well as some development of a personal belief system that does not necessary fit with the established religions. This Rahu can also make mistakes in his attempts to maximize production and gain some recognition for creativity/productivity.

Fifth house: The children of the 5th house are much more than just those who spill forth from the loins of our wives and lovers. Those children which are born of our mind also fit into the 5th house; all the creations we try to maintain are our children. This blog is my child: I feed it, care for it, and give it love; someday it might grow up to have a kind of life of it’s own, but unless I raise it well, it will never survive without me. Investments also come from the fifth house: responsible long-term investments by Saturn, more aggressive short term by Mars, and wild speculation by Rahu. Saturn of course will be affecting the fifth house throughout his transit Scorpio. When Rahu goes into Cancer, he will also be looking at the 5th house (I mentioned some of these effects in my talk about 1st house). Of course the combination of these two malefic influences on an enemy sign (August to October) may bring some difficulties in 5th house matters.

Saturn will have a couple of months alone in this 5th house of Scorpio in the summer which can be beneficial in a very unexciting way, but when Rahu and Ketu make their move to Cancer and Capricorn in August, Rahu will be giving Saturn in the 5th a hard aspect is likely to bring some mistakes in August – October. This is the kind of situation where we create something without intention; or perhaps our creation has unintended consequences. When Saturn moves to the 6th house in October he will move your sense of responsibility into taking care of your health and resolving other obstacles and disputes. With Saturn’s limiting influence removed from the 5th house, Rahu will be free to increase our sense of risk and adventure. Rahu’s aspect on the 5th house also makes this a good time to try some foreign spiritual practice or undertake some intensive studies. Hard responsibility!

Spring can be a potent time for spiritual practice for Cancer natives, but with Jupiter looking at the ninth house from the 3rd and Venus going into exaltation in the 9th from January 27 – May 31. These are the two Gurus of the Gods and Demons respectively; both Brahmins, both with knowledge of the world from their respective perspectives. But when Venus moves on, Jupiter will remain blessing our higher knowledge and sense of faith alone until mid-August when Rahu moves to affect the Dharma trine for Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces natives. Rahu bring intensity into the lives of watery people. His effect will be mostly felt on the body and the personality of Cancer natives who could contract some contagious disease, flu, or seasonal ailment. Accidents and injuries can also be brought about by Rahu’s intensity. People with Rahu in the 1st house often feel strong and independent and pride themselves on their strong individuality.

Ninth house: Our luck, our faith, and our beliefs become our religion. Everyone has one whether it’s personal or institutional or some combination of the two. All the things we pick up over the course of our lives that “make sense” about how humans should live fit into the indications of the 9th house. (The 5th house is also said to be a luck house, but the 5th has more to do with how we put our beliefs in action. If the 9th house the spirituality that we believe in, the 5th house is the spiritual practice that we actually follow. This is also the house of higher knowledge, the guruji, and the father.

For Cancer natives, the 9th house will have Jupiter aspecting his own Pisces 9th house until September 11, 2017. Rahu will also make an aspect here after the nodes move in mid-August and this will continue until the end of the year. Jupiter’s aspect here will promote good luck and a broad-minded personal philosophy. It’s a good aspects of student of the more advanced institutions as well as for spiritual practitioners. Such and aspect can also bless the father or the guru with advisory capabilities. This spring when Venus makes her transit thru this house will be a very potent time of spiritual practice and achieving a higher understanding of the world regardless of your spiritual out look.

Kama: 3rd house; sexual effort 7th house: the other; 11th house: our hopes

Third house: the effort we make to fulfill our desire, cousins, contemporaries, peers; what we do with our hands; social contacts & network.

Jupiter in the 3rd can bring noble efforts; he can enrich your siblings and network, partnerships and profits. He is also looking at his own 9th house, which should be good for spiritual practice, high knowledge, fathers and gurus. In the spring when Venus is exalted in his transit thru Pisces should be an especially potent time for the spiritual lives of Cancer natives. Saturn is looking at Jupiter from the 6th house, which can make you responsible for your health, but also give responsibility to your 3rd house efforts. Jupiter in the 3rd can also bring a lot of short travel and your neighborhood could undergo some kind of improvement.

Jupiter will continue to give his blessing to these matters from the third house until September. Jupiter generally blesses us by broadening our view (our perspective) of things. He’s also famous for his indulgence and will bring an honest effort to achieving whatever goals are assigned. Jupiter is also a multiplier so you may try several avenues to achieve the same goal. Saturn will be looking at Jupiter until June 20 when he goes back into Scorpio where he stays until October 26. Saturn drishti (aspect) on Jupiter in the third can give you a more determined and perhaps even habitual effort.

Seventh house: the kinds of partnerships we make and the way we maintain agreements; wife; business partners, contractual agreements, relationship with the other; our mirror. Essentially, this is how we view and treat others, or rather, “the other” since the typical dualist perspective of life merely separates oneself from all others allowing for the great narratives of man vs nature; man vs man; man vs himself. In any case, they’re all self-defeating battles in the end.

Jupiter’s aspect on the 7th house suggests that you may see at least some of what is noble and pure in others. Jupiter’s aspect can bring many different agreements with different people. Saturn, the ruler of the 7th house for Cancer natives, however, is in the 6th house (12th from 7th) which could bring disputes, broken contracts, or perhaps some service, duty or suffering related to the end of a contract. Since Saturn makes us take responsibility for the annoyances of 6th house, their effects are actually greatly mitigated, unlike, say, Ketu in 6th who often leaves us completely unconcerned with 6th house matters; which can often bring bigger difficulties later. (Saturn will be in this 6th house until June 20 & will return to the 6th again on October 26th.) Saturn in Sagittarius is in the 11th house from Aquarius which is in the 8th house suggesting some possibility of unexpected gain (some would say that this Saturn also forms an auspicious vipreet raj yoga.

When Saturn returns to Scorpio for the middle part of the year he can influence romantic agreements, however, Saturn’s risks are generally carefully measured and his aspect on the 7th house can bring responsibility for children as well as for agreements.

In regards to relationships, this Jupiter is giving a beneficial look at the 7th house of partnerships as well as the 9th house of luck, and from your 3rd, he looks at your partners 3rd (3rd from 7th) suggesting a good time for a combined effort. Relationships are generally ruled by Venus or Mars, though for a woman, Jupiter can represent the husband.

For Cancer lagna, Saturn rules the 7th house of relationships and therefore becomes the karaka (signifier) of relationships that are bound by some mutual agreement. Saturn’s transit in Sagittarius, I’m sorry to say, is not likely to be good for agreements or the partners of Cancer natives since he goes into to 6th house where agreements are broken or become like obstacles. Saturn can make us take responsibility for broken contract/agreements, or he can permanently delay breaking contracts. Saturn and Ketu are also hemming your 7th house; which can put a lot of pressure on your spouse or your agreements. This Ketu can also put a cramp on your partner’s savings, and Rahu in 2nd suggest that you may be happy to be in charge of savings and liquid investments.

Eleventh house: the kind of gain we make, our hopes and the people we associate with are represented in the 11th house. This will be a very dynamic house in 2017 as the aspecting planets will be changing frequently. Jupiter is currently alone in aspecting the 11th house until June when Saturn’s move to the 5th house will then give him an aspect on the 11th house as well. Saturn and Jupiter will give a combined aspect to this house throughout the summer and then in August, Ketu will add his aspecting influence. In September, Jupiter will move tot he 4th house leaving Saturn and Ketu to aspect this house until Saturn moves his look away from here in October.

The period from early September until late October could prove to be a very difficult time for gain and profit. Starting in August, Ketu will be dispersing agreements trade and negotiation. Once Jupiter takes his beneficial influence away from the 11th house, there is likely to be a loss of profits and a loss of hope. Ketu’s influence often comes in the form of a single sharp (or explosive) event that affects all of society as well as the individuals who are a part of it. Depending on ones natal chart even the most dire looking transits can be especially positive. Saturn and Ketu could allow one to profit from technical matters, foreigners, service, and the like.

Prior to September, Jupiter will be looking at the 11th house; which can be good for gain, but also expensive and pleasant of our sense of hope.

Artha: 2nd house: the face we show to the world; 6th house: obstacles; 10th house: our reputation

Second house: Rahu will be in Leo of the second house until mid-August. This can be a difficult placement for Rahu since he will like to appear as someone with great savings and many valuables regardless of the reality. The difficulty in this placement can be summed up with the words a local drug addict recently spoke to me: “it doesn’t matter what the truth is, nobody cares about truth, what people care about is appearance; appearance is everything.” This is the sort of materialistic philosophy followed by Rahu in the second. Saturn will also be looking at this 2nd house from mid-June to mid-September. The period from mid-June to mid-August will have both of these planets affecting the second house which is likely to cause some tension by introducing a conservative bent to Rahu’s excess. This mid-summer period could bring health problems to some member of the ancestral family (or childhood family), but it could also affect the face of teeth of the native. This will be a very good period for harsh speech, and food and eating habits are likely to be less than healthy (Rahu in the 2nd house of a natal chart is often indicative of meat eating or having an ancestry that earned from the death of animals). Once Rahu moves on to Cancer in August, Saturn’s dristi will be alone in influencing the second house. This will be a much better time for gathering savings and consolidating liquid assets, but with Saturn there will have to be some sacrifices made to complete the collection. Of course much depends on the natal position of the Sun and the other planets.

Sixth house: Saturn is going in and out the 6th house this year. In June he will move back to the 5th house until the end of October and then back into the 6th to complete his 2.5 year transit of the sign. Saturn in the 6th house makes us take responsibility for our health. From this position he can drag out acute health problems or disputes; he can force us into a service role; and generally make us take our obligations seriously. This is the position of someone who follows their duty.

Saturn rules the 7th and 8th houses. 7th owner going into the 6th house is rarely good as it will encourage disputes with spouse. This Saturn often does not go in for divorce of break up, but rather takes responsibility for the dispute and tries to fix things regardless of how long it takes. Saturn is not averse to the problem sets of the 6th.

Rahu’s aspect on this house until mid-August (both Saturn and Rahu will give effects here until mid to late June. The 6th house represents those things which challenge us and Rahu certainly loves a challenge. Rahu is also not averse to breaking a few rules in order to win. Success thru this period will depend on the natal placements of the planets as well as the dasha operating throughout this period.

Of course, for Cancer natives, Jupiter has some major say in 6th house matters. Jupiter will be in the 3rd house until early September and then he will move into the 4th house. The 3rd house is 10th from 6th suggesting that some reputational matters will be tied in with the 6th house matters. The 3rd house is the house of effort so it’s likely that noble (Jupiterian) efforts will be made for 6th house matters (to resolve disputes and health matters. It’s also possible that Jupiter will bring the 6th house disputes into the 3rd house to cause disputes with (or health problems to) younger siblings or social networks (neighbors can also be represented by 3rd house). When Jupiter moves into the 4th house, he can bring these duties, obstacles and challenges to the parents or home of the Cancer native. It must be pointed out that Jupiter is also the 9th house owner for Cancer lagna which suggest that there will always be a c certain amount of luck or higher knowledge tied in with Jupiterian significations.

Tenth house: For cancer natives the 10th house is ruled by Mars, a relatively fast moving planet that will continually transform ones reputation as the native seeks continual innovation. Rahu will be looking at the 10th house until mid-August and then it will be left without strong influence from any of the slow moving planets until Jupiter moves to Libra in September which will give the Guru a direct aspect of the 10th house.

Rahu deals with our urges that we cannot control, in regards to the 10th house, he gives us the urge for public recognition. This can often lead to “acting out” or some other behavior that will get noticed. The combined influence of Mars and Rahu on this house can also give a reputation of dealing with computers and machines.

When Jupiter lends his look to this house we can expect a broadening of reputation, perhaps an advisory or training position. Since Jupiter is looking from the 4th house of home and contentment, these expending emotions likely to be reflected in ones social position. Since this house is ruled by Mars, this can be an especially good time for executives maintaining several career portfolios.

Moksha: 4th house: contentment; 8th house: the unknown; 12th house: expenditure

Fourth house: Ketu is sending his dispersing influence tot he 4th house until the two brothers make their move in August. The 4th house will be vacant for about a month and then Jupiter will bring a combination of luck and duty into the home.

Depending on the position of Venus in the natal chart as well as the current dasha period running, Ketu can disperse the home, quell the home fires, and bring difficulties to the mother. Ketu can also influence a little bit of emotional numbness, and perhaps limit our sense of security.

Of course, when Jupiter moves into this 4th house in September, he will bring his natural expansiveness as well as his functional luck and duty. Higher knowledge and understanding will go into the home and influence the emotional being, but there will also be a stronger sense of duty for the home environment. A touch of caution needs to be exercises here since any influence of the 6th lord tot he 4th house can bring vehicle accidents as well as property disputes. Of course, once again, this is largely influenced by ones personal chart and dasha period.

Eighth house: The eighth house is mystery, occult, secret knowledge, death, and all that resides in the hidden depths of water. Cancer natives have Aquarius in the 8th house marking them a secret mystics.

Ketu is in Aquarius until mid-August. This can bring a deep and mysterious intuitive understanding. Ketu in 8th house can also be quite explosive in the 8th house since both have a proclivity for the unexpected. Ketu’s dispersal energy can be quite explosive when combines with Mars or Saturn. (Saturn will be aspecting Ketu in 8th thru May and mostly June). This could be quite a sensitive month and a half for Cancer natives as well as Cancer localities. Since Saturn is looking at his own Aquarius sign in this house, there is likely to be some protection (Saturn’s aspect on 8th also increases longevity), but it may be safe advice to expect the unexpected. Although it’s out of the purview of this analysis, it can be noted that Mars is also aspecting Saturn in the 6th house which will influence some toxicity.

Ketu will have a couple of months alone in the 8th house from the end of June until the end of August. This can bring a loss of privacy, loss of sleep even, as well as other difficulties in the home. Ketu’s role is to leave what belongs in the past, in the past. He cuts us from the energies that don’t serve us anymore. He is like that Shiva who is cutting the head off time; the fleeting past that is continually rushing into the majestically expansive mouths of Lord Krishna.

Then, in August, Rahu and Ketu move houses and the 8th house becomes more accessible to the reasoned to the mind. The ruler of 8th, Saturn, will be in the 5th house which is an excellent placement for research, and since he is additionally in Scorpio (the 8th sign), some occult experiences are also possible. Some of you may experience this as Ketu revealing some latent talents in the mystery cults and then suddenly finding a strong desire to practice and experience the mysteries of life.

For most of September and October, Jupiter will aspect this house, and Saturn will add his aspect in October when he moves back into Sagittarius. This can bring some more pleasant, but equally unexpected, events. This could be as simple as some good advice from an unlikely source.

Twelfth house: This is the ultimate moksha house: loss, liberation, expenses, bed pleasures, and the sub-conscious mind. Ketu and Saturn will also be affecting this house by aspect in the early part of summer. Difficult sleep, being out of touch with the sub-conscious, and certainly a lack of pleasurable bed pleasures. This Saturn-Ketu aspects here can bring awful dreams and a dreadful imagination. All this sub-conscious information will ease off in August, and if there is any kind of major disruption causes by this combination, Jupiter’s aspect on the 12th house (beginning in September) is likely to be beneficial.

Saturn and Ketu can sometimes give a very difficult restriction to expenses; or it can make for very wasteful expenses depending on their placement in your chart and the current dasha operating.
