Heart & Brain

Is there anything that the heart and the brain can agree on?

My heart tells me to follow my dreams. My brain tells me my dreams are dumb. My heart tells me to listen to my feelings, my brain tells me that’s illogical.  My heart tells me to love, my brain tells me to think. Do I hang or let go? Rise or fall?

My brain is deeply rooted in the physical world, it’s attached to this body which it wants to preserve forever; but the brain knows that what began must also end. The brain is a linear thinker: growth, production, constant evolution, don’t look back.

Time will certainly destroy the brain, the body, and the energy unless the brain learns to see things differently. If the brain wants to preserve itself, it has to enter the cycles of the heart, it has to learn to act from the heart perspective, it has to start doing thing, which on the surface, seem destructive because they go against the logic and reason of the brain. The brain thinks it, we, everything will die if it follows the heart into the ocean, the world of madness, chaos and destruction..

Oh that crazy heart recoiling in fear from reason, told to shush by logic; rebellious, unpredictable. The heart is our own personal boogie-man; the temptress representing our every desire: Maya herself, the bitch goddess, the devil, the one upon whom the worst names are cast.

The heart will not be controlled of dominated of forced into anything. It might seem like it on the surface sometimes, but the heart will always have its say in the end. The brain cannot fight the heart with his own weapons, he will lose every time. The brain has to cross over to the other side.

It’s up to the brain to see the bigger picture and know that if he wants to preserve himself, he has to get to know the heart. The heart doesn’t really care about the brain (she cares, but not in a personal way). He has to get to know her and see things from her perspective; we cannot expect the same from the heart.

It’s not about controlling the heart, the emotional mind, but getting to know it, allowing it to indulge, but with discipline, in moderation. Of course, if you have been using more of a control, dominance and repression technique against the desires of the heart, an even greater rebellion is to be expected.

The brain is the emperor; it must lead the heart wisely, but to do this it must surrender some of its control, its desire for order. That act of surrender itself will bring greater order.

And what can we say to the heart that won’t listen to reason. Words fail me when I look her direction, will and innocent, beyond reproach. She leaves us dumb with her beauty, shimmering between a medusa, a Kali & a Persephone or a Saraswati. A representative of procreation, power and destruction; enchanting regardless of which face we see.

And the blind emperor who can never see himself, he can only know himself through her. A love story as old as time. He needs her, but she doesn’t need him; but if they can’t come together their destruction is mutually assured.

How does one embrace chaos? What more can I do that I have not done? This useless brain knows nothing of the heart!. And the silence, the maddening silence tells me nothing at all while time passes and the leaves turn yellow. Caught up in the mass of sound, the ocean of vibration, registering every ripple of the butterfly wings; tight like a guitar string ready to be plucked; ready for that universal pulsation; the commands of the heart which asks only that we tune ourselves to her frequency. We don’t have to change who we are, but if the universe is tuned to C sharp, we better be also.

Be Shiva and dance with Shakti (this universe) and let her dance upon you.

note: “Time will certainly destroy the brain, the body and the energy unless the brain can see things differently.” This brings us to the question of “Who am I?” This brain? This body? This energy? Only the energy moved from heaven to earth. It does this by cycling through every element of existence (tattva) and every loka, (world or dimension or perspective). Energy moves in these cycles to preserve itself from the ravages of time. This involves getting to know the rhythm and patters of the individual, local and universal cycles and understanding oneself in terms of those cycles and taking action in such a way that those cycles and your connection are true. Pretty crazy, I know. But logic also tells us that just because the sun rises every day, doesn’t mean it will rise tomorrow. Our heart tells us to take action as if the sun will rise again.
