Saturn in Purva Phalguni
Saturn in Purva Phalguni
“Time is just memory mixed in with Desire.” “I did my time in the jail of your arms.” “My reality needs imagination like a light bulb needs a socket. My imagination needs reality like a blind man needs a cane.” “I’ve always believed that the way you affect your audience is more important than how many of them are there.”
― Tom Waits
“You have the ultimate responsibility for your experience.”
— Richard Gere
“The crowd is the gathering place of the weakest; true creation is a solitary act.” “Take a writer away from his typewriter and all you have left is the sickness that started him writing in the first place.”
— Charles Bukowski
“On the 26th of January 1950, we are going to enter into a life of contradictions. In politics we will have equality and in social and economic life we will have inequality. In politics we will be recognising the principle of one man one vote and one vote one value. In our social and economic life, we shall, by reason of our social and economic structure, continue to deny the principle of one man one value. How long shall we continue to live this life of contradictions? How long shall we continue to deny equality in our social and economic life? If we continue to deny it for long, we will do so only by putting our political democracy in peril. We must remove this contradiction at the earliest possible moment or else those who suffer from inequality will blow up the structure of political democracy which this Assembly has so laboriously built up.”
― Bhim Rao Ambedkar
“In the Hindu religion, one can[not] have freedom of speech. A Hindu must surrender his freedom of speech. He must act according to the Vedas. If the Vedas do not support the actions, instructions must be sought from the Smritis, and if the Smritis fail to provide any such instructions, he must follow in the footsteps of the great men. He is not supposed to reason. Hence, so long as you are in the Hindu religion, you cannot expect to have freedom of thought”
― Bhim Rao Ambedkar
“History shows that where ethics and economics come in conflict, victory is always with economics. Vested interests have never been known to have willingly divested themselves unless there was sufficient force to compel them.”
― Bhim Rao Ambedkar
“Humans are mortal. So are ideas. An idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering. Otherwise both will wither and die.”
― Bhim Rao Ambedkar
They might glamourise suffering, old age, and the cold, hard life. They might do this in order to regulate culture, the arts, creativity, and truth. Saturn fears all these Purva Phalguni fruits so they restrict it from others the way they were restricted. Of course Saturn in Leo also aspects Scorpio so we find them living with a lot of secrets and the truth is often suppressed. They often don’t like children who ask too many questions or show too much curiosity. These people will seek to protect others from themselves, from knowing too much, from allowing their minds to wander. Of course the sexual connotations around Purva Phalguni are also regulated by law, by Saturn.
These are the dark knights who feel imprisoned by love, imprisoned by the truth. They might suffer for what they know. They usually have a fairly practical mind, but they might be too practical, everything becomes sticks and stones to them. Of course they are often very capable of arranging these sticks and stones in a pleasing or inspiring manner. They want to express truth and beauty, which are ideals best realised in their most subtle form, with sticks and stones in the dense, gross physical reality. The way Manhattan built the Statue of Liberty. The way Johnathan L. builds beautiful & functional garden stands. Or dare I say it, the way Kaitlin Jenner rearranged her physical reality. They may have personal contradictions or vested interests that keep them from the truth for a long time.
Purva Phalguni has some chimeric qualities to it. This sense of putting two opposites together is like mixing a narwhal and a horse to make a unicorn. That’s fine, a unicorn can and does exist in the world of ideas, but people with Saturn in Purva Phalguni try to really make that unicorn into a reality. They have a hard time understanding subtle truths and symbolic language.
They might have been punished for their flights of fantasy when they were children. They don’t have a lot of trust, or at least their trust is tightly regulated. They can be incredibly creative, but they want to put their creativity to practical use. They can be good architects and building designers. They can often achieve a nice blend of form and function much later in life. Their fans are usually the working class, farmers, labourers, administrators, and blue collar people; the masses who are affected most by reality. But the issues they seek to draw attention to are not very sleek and sexy so no matter how much they might try to raise awareness, much of their effort will be in vain. Their success, creativity, productivity and even children might not come until late in life. Some of these folks might work with old people, and there is a good chance they will be workaholics in some way. Their whole life may revolve around work.
They very often find jobs providing services for the elite: face life’s, banking, media production, security and protection, carpentry, music, entertainment….
Manhattan is the cultural, entertainment and financial capital of the USA (and arguably the world). For the most part, this is where the rules are made. The Statue of Liberty (a big pile of Saturnious stone) sits here reminding the world of the twin ideals of Sovereignty and Peace (Sun & Venus). Saturn will try to regulate culture, education and finance; through longer term investments, laws or constitutions that regulate culture and education; what we call the education system. Artists might do very well later in life after they learn how the entertainment industry works. They might be labourers, service people, or old timers of the culture, education of financial sectors. On the other hand it could be that people with this placement hire many such people to work for them. They tend to have a social conscience.
Catherine Thailand has Saturn & Rahu conjunct in her 10th house. She works as cabin crew for private yachts. When she does touch land it is usually on some insignificant speck in the ocean. In many ways her work represents the ideal of freedom with the Sun Venus conjunction in the 8th house. But this Saturn Rahu conjunction in the 10th means that she is always working; on call 24 hours a day. She is completely bound by the limits of the yacht. Saturn rules her 3rd & 4th house bringing her home and work mates all uncomfortably close quarters.

Saturn in Purva Phalguni 1st house
Rules the 6th & 7th houses for Leo ascendant.
Phala Deepika: Saturn in 1st house “causes one to be afflicted with sorrow and misery from early childhood and is sure to suffer from poverty and want. He is untidy and indolent.”
Jataka Bharnam: Saturn in the 1st house: “If Saturn is exalted or in own sign the native becomes the king of his country or his own city, but in any other sign he is unfortunate, diseased and devoid of wealth. The disease will affect that part of the body represented by the sign.”
B.V. Raman: Saturn in the 1st house: “Foreign customers will be easily copied and imitated. If Saturn is not afflicted there will be much concern for others. Self confit dance is normally justified. Moral stability will also be marked. The disposition is calm, grave and serious. The body will be weak and emancipated. Progress in any venture will be slow but certain. There may come an aversion for responsibility. This position makes habits inactive. Loss through negligence and lack of opportunity are possible. The same results will be noticed when Saturn aspects the ascendant. Misfortune is likely in the early part of life.”
Chamatkar Chintamani: Saturn in the 1st house: “The native has plenty of wealth, unabated greed. Discontented, quarrelsome, unhappy, crude. Poisonous glance; mental agony, billions, jealous. The native is rich, regrets, disputes, destroyed the strongest enemies but is dissatisfied. Perturbed, angry, Saturn-like looks, jealous of others property and victims of various ailments. The native is sick, sexy, gloomy, lazy, faces various ailments in childhood. If Saturn is in it’s own sign, exalted or in Sagittarius, Pisces the native is affluent like a king, chief of the village or town; learned, a scholar, handsome, long-lived and charming. In other signs the results are similar to those of the Sun, there is trouble in the nose, illusions, heart-burning, trouble in the womb and joints, biliousness, chill, pain in the private parts, under-arm and body pains. Respiratory problems if Saturn is afflicted. If it is unfavourable, trouble due to poverty, own acts, evil spirits, devils and thieves. Saturn is very troublesome causing total ruin. This Saturn can kill the enemy just by his poisonous looks. If afflicted by the Moon, they will live only by the mercy of others; but this is modified if aspected by a benefic. If well placed by sign or aspect the native is contemplative and considerate, discrete, prudent, systematic, diligent, frugal, intimate, attentive, quiet, sincere, and serious, loves merit, thoughtful, growth and success are slow but sure. Afflicted Saturn indicates trouble and sickness in the part of the body represented by the sign it’s in. Their temperament is subtle, acquisitive, penetrative, careful, secretive, and sometimes gloomy and discontented. There is loss through sickness, misfortune and delays. Generally these natives are deficient in Phosphate and Calcium. They are given to nervousness, timidity, and diffidence in youth; boldness from middle age. The native with Saturn in Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces prefers service and gets promotion after pursuing seniors. Fortune smiles on him by retirement time. There is only one marriage; sons are few or none but many daughters. He has large but weak eyes, commanding speech, authoritative look if in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius. This Saturn in Gemini denotes 2 marriages, absence or progeny, progress and success later in life, good education, interest in law, education or medicine. Polite, captivating and tactful if in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces. In Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, Aquarius indicates success in government or corporate service. There is trouble through the family, strife with partner, two marriages, sensual, ailing partner, early death of parents (Longevity to parents if in Libra). He is best by age 56 but suffers economic loss in the 25th and 31st year. Marriage is denied or the partner fails to survive if afflicted by Venus. Wealth and sons do not go together. Trouble through business. Accidents, sudden death or imprisonment if afflicted by Mars. Wicked and deprived if it conjoins Moon. Ugly and poorly dressed if in Leo or Sagittarius. In water signs indicated cold, strictures, obstructions, bones and urinary problems. Biliousness if in Gemini or Aquarius. The native leaves a good impression in the first interview. Good natured in Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces. Selfish in Virgo, Capricorn, Aquarius, Taurus.”
Jataka Bharnam: “Moon & Saturn conjunction allows the native to enjoy sex with many women, loves and prostitutes. They have a guilty disposition, mixed blood and are devoid of manliness. They do agriculture or labour work and often take part in local elections and may be successful. In a female, this conjunction in the 7th house will give menstrual irregularities and in a male chart they might lack interest in sexual intercourse.”
BPHS: 6th lord in the 1st house: “The native will be sickly, famous, inimical to his relatives, adventurous, and virtuous. If the ascendant is otherwise weakened they could be permanently disabled. But if this 6th lord is in his own or exaltation sign they will not be sick; they will love exercise, remain fixed in reality (not a dreamer), earns by hard work and is wealthy and honourable.”
B.V. Raman: 6th lord in the 1st house: “If well aspected the person may join the army as a soldier of commander consistent with the strength and disposition of the planets involved. He may become a minister of war or officer concerned with prisons. He will live in the house of his maternal grandfather. If weak or otherwise afflicted the native becomes a robber, thief or leader of a criminal gang.”
BPHS: 7th lord in the 1st house: “the native will travers others’ wives, be wicked, skilful, be devoid of fortitude and will be afflicted by windy diseases.”
B.V. Raman: 7th lord in the 1st house: “The native might marry someone he has known since childhood, or they were brought up in the same house. Ones partner will be stable and mature. The native will be intelligent and capable of weighing the pros and cons. Afflictions can bring constant travelling. If Venus is also afflicted, the native will be sensual and seek clandestine relations with the opposite sex.”
Commentary: Extremely disciplined but harsh, dry commanding personality. They may suffer some fairy serious problems due to vata, adn trouble with the immune system is likely.

Saturn in Purva Phalguni 2nd house

Their speech is harsh, they are thrifty, there is some possibility of disease of the mouth and they might not not pretty.”
B.V. Raman: Saturn in the 2nd house: “Unless exalted or in own house it tends to make earning an uphill struggle. Much work with little gain. He will gain by dealing with metals, storage, mines, labour, etc. He will be unpopular.”
BPHS: 7th lord in the 2nd house: “The native will have many wives, will gain wealth through his wife and be of procrastinating nature.”
B.V. Raman: 7th lord in the 2nd house: “The native gets wealth through marriage. If afflicted one may earn wealth through despicable means as trading in flesh and women, not excluding his wife. He may eat the food offered at death ceremonies and wander about seeking such foods. If the 2nd house is a dual sign and afflicted, more than one marriage is likely. If maraka dasha is going on, one may die in periods of the 7th lord. The native will have a wavering mind and will always be inclined towards sensuality.”
BPHS: 8th lord in the 2nd house: “The native will be devoid of physical vigour, will possess little wealth and will not regain lost wealth.”
B.V. Raman: 8th lord in the 2nd house: “Conjunct the 2nd lord brings trouble of all sorts. The native suffers from eye and tooth troubles. He will have to eat unhealthy, tasteless, putrid foods. His domestic life will be filled with discontent and quarrels. His wife will not understand him. This may lead to estrangement and separation. If longevity is good he may suffer some severe illness. If in the 6th, 8th, or 12th navamsha the intensity of the results will be reduced in some way.”

Saturn in Purva Phalguni 3rd house
Rules the 8th & 9th houses for Gemini ascendant.
Phala Deepika: Saturn in 3rd house “will make a man sharp, liberal in giving gifts, and contented with his own wife. He will, however, be inactive and suffer from grief.”
Jataka Bharnam: Saturn in 3rd house “person will get honour from government, have excellent conveyance, be chief of a village, valorous and supporter of many people.” “Ill will, aversion and separation from ones brothers. Sorrow through brothers; honoured by rulers, the head or president of local boards, municipalities, etc. He will protect many people. He attains success only after he suffers disappointment and reverses. The tendency of the mind is toward gloom, anxiety and misgivings. The mental condition improves with age. If afflicted, the Despondency is likely to run into mental affliction.”
BPHS: 8th lord in the 3rd house: “The native will be devoid of fraternal happiness, will be indolent and without vigour or servants.”
B.V. Raman: 8th lord in the 3rd house: “If conjunct the 3rd lord, 3rd house significations suffer. The natives ears may suffer or he may go deaf. Misunderstanding and disputed with siblings; beset by fear and mental anguish. He may imagine things and suffer from hallucinations. He may get involved with debts and get into trouble thereby. If malefic afflict the conjunction of 3rd & 8th lord the natives suffering will be unbearable, but if conjunct the 6th or the 12th lord benefic results may come: he might get a monetary windfall through writing or the agency of a co-born.”
BPHS: 9th lord in the 3rd house: “Native will be blessed with fraternal happiness, be wealthy virtuous and charming.”
B.V. Raman: 9th lord in the 3rd house: “The native makes his fortune through writing, speeches and oration. The natives father will be a man of moderate means; the native will advance the family fortune through his co-borns. If afflicted, the native can land into trouble due to his writings which may be irrational or obscene depending on the affliction. He may be forced to sell his paternal property due to trouble from his writings.”
Commentary: They are always pushing themselves to write more and put in more effort, but this effort reduces their creativity and they become lazy. With practice they become effective but hesitant messaging and media administrators. They seek to get people’s attention with factual messages, concert tour posters and this kind of thing listing the date, place and time. Appointment making and following schedules for short global travels, tours or pilgrimages but they might often miss the opportunity to attend for themselves. Due to some anxiety in team collaboration they tend to prefer working alone. They can become very good promoters with practice; supporting their own work or that of a guru or teacher figure, but it doesn’t come easy or natural to them. They might have a patron who supports them. They usually have a dry depressive mentality fearful of personal expression in their communications, restricted in their breaking, conservative in their thinking and afraid of spending too much.

If afflicted, he will be a gambler and indulge in foolish ventures. With benefic aspect he will be pious and observe many resolves and vows which will enhance his prosperity.”
Commentary: They may provide services for the wealthy. They will be known for diligent practice, work in a celebrity culture or for celebrations. Since this is a Ketu nakshatra they might “do” several things. They’re careful to preserve their reputation and they will be regarded with respect by society. They might be in a highly visible position. Highly visible is the key here: this seems to allow a span of people from those working in traffic with highly visible safety apparel, to those in politics. They usually have much contact with the masses, many ups and downs in career. Known in some random ways; a kind for dark knight.

Saturn in Purva Phalguni 7th house
Rules the 1st & 12th houses for Aquarius ascendant.
Phala Deepika: Saturn in 7th house “gives and ugly wife, poverty, and misery to one who is always loitering.”
Jataka Bharnam: Saturn in 7th house “native is weak bodied, suffers disease, earns livelihood by a lower standard, lives with low persons, and remains unhappy due to wife, house and wealth. Not auspicious for health of one’s wife, one lacks enthusiasm and gets disrespect from women, and one’s wife remains unhappy, disappointed, despaired. May loose business partnerships. But if Saturn is well placed and influenced by benefics and lords of auspicious houses they profit from partnership, get a wife with clear uncomplicated thoughts and views.”
B.V. Raman: Saturn in the 7th house: “The native will be under his wife’s control. She will be ugly and hunched back. He will have more than one marriage or will marry a widow or divorcee or someone advanced in age. He will be diplomatic and enterprising. He has residence abroad, a stable marriage and political success.”
BPHS: 1st lord in the 7th house: “If this is a malefic planet, the natives wife will not live. If a benefic planet, the native is an aimless wanderer, penurious, of ascetic disposition or becomes a king.”
B.V. Raman: 1st lord in the 7th house: “The wife does not live . Or there will be more than one marriage. Later in life becomes detached from worldly affairs and tries to lead an ascetic life. Depending on other factors the native will either be rich or poor. There will be much travelling. If well disposed. He will spend most of his time in foreign countries and lead a licentious life. Or he will be a puppet in the hands of his parent-in-law.”
BPHS: 12th lord in the 7th house: “the native will always spend on account of his wife, will not enjoy conjugal bliss and will be bereft of learning and strength.”
B.V. Raman: 12th lord in the 7th house: “Wife may come from a poor family. Married life will be unhappy and may end in separation. Later on he will take to aestheticism. Weak in health and suffering phlegmatic troubles, he will be without learning or property.”
Commentary: Males are likely to have short term sexual relationships with other males. They might have a long term marriage, but the wise will likely be out of the picture somehow: staying in a foreign land, or merely staying in the house. There is likely to be little to none public displays of partnership. There tends to be a great deal of mistrust in all kinds of relationships, partnerships contracts and agreements. Marriage will come late, if it comes at all, and the spouse is likely to be of low birth, remain unhappy, disappointed or shamed. They may have some fear of the opposite sex. From the perspective of a foreign diplomat this Saturn can be beneficial in crafting alliances with foreign partners, or silent partners.

B.V. Raman: Saturn in the 8th house: “Gives good longevity but many responsibilities in life. The native will discharge his duties through sheer perseverance against all odds. Donate to support the nakshatra project & astrological research.
I started the Nakshatra project after walking the Narmada Parikrama for three months. Walking about 20 km per day, staying in Ashrams along the way. Walking alone, with groups, with babas, sleeping outside for much of it, living simple from the land, taking way is given and giving prayers and blessings in return. A land where blessings are currency, where the pilgrims path is revered, where simple men and women becomes saints.
When I returned and looked at some notes that I had I suddenly realized what it all could becomes. Of course there was almost nothing there at the time. I knew I woud have to give up the next 5 years of my life to this project. I’m about 2.5 years into it now. This is all I do, write, research and read charts. I have about 6000 pages of Nakshatra project in my own notes. I hope to have a first draft complete by the end of this years but there are 4000 individual articles that need to be written, and that only scrattes the surface.
What you see here, is a very rough foundation and nothing more. But as just that it can be useful for astrologer and astrology students. I have very quickly discovered the use of this for deeper research and I believe I have found a coupel gems already. But of course this kind of research takes a special kind of time.
For the first year and a half of this project I was in Varanasi, every part of my experience was relating with the nakshatras I was studying and I was in such peace that I could easily see it. This project has taken on different stages as I’ve gone along. I’m still adding to it, still giving y life to it. My work, my prayers and my practive is about all I have. And I think I have a unique background to offer a great deal to future scholarship of Jyotish Astrology, the Vedic Sciences and Tantric lifestyle.
Part of the process is to keep going over things again and again. Unfortunately there is still much work to be done in rectifying charts, dealing with poor rectifications, and faulty birth data.
If you are a lover of Vedic Astrology and Philosophical living I can always use a little support. I am not in the business of astrology to make money, though reading charts is my main means of income. In truth, I spend most my time in nature, in little village places beside some body of water with lots of forest and birds around. I’m a deaf guy so I don’t always get to hear the birds. And since I don’t really have a land or a home I’m constantly traveling.
I’ll cover much of North America over the next year: Mexico, USA & Canada. Summer 2024 I hope to travel through Europe and walk the the Camino De Santiago to get in touch with my Christian roots; I have embraced Eastern knowledge to such an extent that I have, in some way, forgotten my Western roots. The preservation of ancient knowledge in India is quite remarkable. There is, of course, similar knowledge all over the world, it’s just not so widely accessible and respected as it is in India.
Om namah shivaya! Jai Mā! Jai Guru!
