Saturn causes the lighting to get darker exaggerating the contrast of this dual Nakshatra: In Ingrid Bergman’s case they used a cinematography technique to darken her features and contrast the shadows. Michelangelo also had a unique way of using sharp contrasting tones rather than blending shadows to achieve depth of field. And these days they often talk about the poor lighting conditions he had to work under compared to today.

When Trump entered politics he provided a stark contrast to just about everything. There is certainly little middle ground left in American politics. Saturn rules 6th and 7th houses in his chart so we can see allegations (6th) of foreign (12th) collusion (7th). We can also consider the harsh light under which his comments about there being “good people on both sides” were seen and projected. So Saturn here offers a harsh replay of events. Fortunately for him this is all happening in his 12th house so it should mostly dissolve away.

Saturn goes into a debilitated navamsha in the first pada. They have a very strong sense of resolve which they have to renew from time to time. Goals are delayed, returns are delayed.  They might have a very strict calendar. The same tired old thing might come up again and again. These are the people who dust off the old hat to be worn again. The revert to the same tires old cliches, they repeat old news,

A duty to care, to protect, possibly put into protective care somehow or had step parents who provided them with the basic necessities. The home is not typically a warm place with this Saturn placement. Cold comfort. Not much sense of security and belonging. The home community may have been a dark and dangerous place. But ones sense of civic responsibility can quite high and they might even be willing to shelter others. Their work might be in and around water. Often times it can have seasonal variation,

They have to work hard to develop a sense of security and belonging; it takes time for these natives to trull open up.

This is the most likely position for Blue Blooded Royalty. High class or closely tied to the church. They represent the “old order” in some way. They can be cold-blooded, snobbish, and far too high above most people to give them the time of day. They are like cold stiff royalty, unless you are part of their inner circle; but to be there you have to follow a very harsh protocol. They tend to have very rigid caste or class divisions. Even the less wealthy people will maintain their position in society without seeking advancement. They might be capable of keeping a “stone face” without showing expression or emotion. Of course many of them end up studying law and become regulators of the land, hostels, hotels, guest houses.

They can be over protective; defending both personal emotional boundaries as well as erecting stone barriers around their home for security. They might even have a rigid security detail protecting them when they are out. They become equally protective as parents with their children. They will rigidly defend the old ways. They may have been raised by servants or step mother whose focus was on enforcing rules rather than offering maternal care and comfort. Give only cold comfort from a controlling mother. Perhaps we can’t put all the blame on her. She is usually very focused on survival; she is just trying to keep you alive. In Pushya this sense of survival might be for the whole home community and culture where the mother is tearfully hugging her child dramatically saying: you have to rise above all of that. You could say that they nourish by providing the necessities, rules, structure, discipline usually by a very young age. Of course this can make a person a little hard, but life is hard and if you want to get to the top you have to work hard.

I would expect most of this group has land and properties in the family for many generations. Those who don’t have landed property might find themselves work or give service in care-homes, social service sector, providing meals to homeless, possibly even adopting. Some people would say they are emotionally repressed, others might put a positive spin on it and call it having control over their emotions; we could also debate the merits of the wealth, power and heavy responsibility that many of these people have. This is one of the most common placement of leaders.

Here we see the symbol of the circle coming out as a ball that flies through the air: the tennis balls and cannon ball of Henry the V, Bernard Montgomery and others: hurling a ball of iron through the air. Tiger Woods is hitting plastic golf balls, but he’s doing so with iron; Henry Ford made big business for the ball bearing markets. It was obviously this Saturnian energy that inspired Shakespeare to write about the young King Henry V whose cold rule persecuted and executed even those who had been the closest of friends. He had little tolerance for anyone stepping out of line. As usual one could find themselves either giving or receiving this kind of treatment depending on the placement.

Frederick II the Great of Prussia, who has Saturn in Ashlesha with the Moon conjunct and Mars aspecting, set out to tame or conquer nature. He began a massive project of land reclamation, draining swamps and building canals. He once told Voltaire that, “Whoever improves the soil, cultivates land lying waste and drains swamps, is making conquests from barbarism.” Although this had a huge toll on the natural landscape (which puts me in mind of the story of Rama’s war against Taksha the serpent mother) he also had a great love for nature, plants and animals. He didn’t like hunting and set up the first veterinary hospital. He was very much a man of two natures who could care for his home while destroying his enemies. It should be noted that he was also known as the “Potato King’” for introducing Potatoes to the region. The other things we find with Ashlesha placements is architecture. Louis XIV with Venus in Ashlesha built grand and beautiful palaces while Frederick II the Great of Prussia with Saturn here saw the home and the land in a much more pragmatic way. Le Corbusier: Saturn conjunct Rahu; no aspects; Moon in Taurus.  Rahu Saturn 1908 – ‘10:  Exactly in this period he travelled to Paris worked as a draftsman in the office of the architect and the pioneer of the use of reinforced concrete in residential construction for 14 months.   Jupiter Saturn 1923 – ’25: He met the Russian architect Konstantin Melnikov during the 1925 Decorative Arts Exposition in Paris, and admired the construction of Melnikov’s constructivist USSR pavilion, the only truly modernist building in the Exposition other than his own Esprit Nouveau pavilion. At Melnikov’s invitation, he travelled to Moscow, where he found that his writings had been published in Russian; he gave lectures and interviews.   Saturn Mahadasha: 1936 – 1955: Between 1931 and 1945 he built an apartment building with fifteen units, including an apartment and studio for himself on the 6th and 7th floors,  at 24 rue Nungesser-et-Coli in the 16th arrondissement in Paris. overlooking the Bois de Boulogne.  His apartment and studio are owned today by the Foundation Le Corbusier and can be visited.   He became for a time a technical adviser at Alexis Carrel’s eugenics foundation but resigned on 20 April 1944.  In 1943 he founded a new association of modern architects and builders, the Ascoral, the Assembly of Constructors for a renewal of architecture, but there were no projects to build.  When the war ended Le Corbusier was nearly sixty years old and he had not had a single project realized for ten years.  After India received independence in 1947. Le Corbusier was contacted in 1950 by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and invited to propose a project.  In 1948, he replaced this with a colourful mural he painted himself.  In Geneva, he built a glass-walled apartment building with 45 units, the Immeuble Clarté.  He designed two important religious buildings; the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Haut at Ronchamp (1950–1955). Le Corbusier first visited the remote mountain site of Ronchamp in May 1950, saw the ruins of the old chapel, and drew sketches of possible forms. He wrote afterwards: “In building this chapel, I wanted to create a place of silence, of peace, of prayer, of interior joy. The feeling of the sacred animated our effort. Some things are sacred, others aren’t, whether they’re religious or not.”  The second major religious project undertaken by Le Corbusier was the Convent of Sainte Marie de La Tourette in L’Arbresle in the Rhone Department (1953–1960).

Many of these natives seem to be feeling original sin much more than the rest of us. They are really stuck in cycles of guilt and shame and self-loathing, which of course comes out as self-destructive behaviour like addiction, crime, chronic pain. There is usually some criminal behaviour, something that gets them in trouble with the law, but the Vipreet raj yoga seems to be a get out of jail free card perhaps for promises of rehabilitation, due to special skills or wealth. Saturn in 6th house afflicts the 6th, 8th, & 12th & 3rd houses by aspect. Aspect on 8th house gives a healthy fear of death, affliction can make it paralysing. It’s can make them a bit sexually frigid or decrease the libido. If other factors of the charts show strong libido they might be caught in pattern of unhealthy and unsatisfying sexual relations; possibly taboo relations since this Saturn aspect typically generates some secrets which will feel life and death. They often burry themselves in their work: serve or suffer, long hours of mostly thankless work.

Many of these natives are deeply entrenched in drug or alcohol addiction, likely to numb (Ketu) or alleviate (Venus) the pain. Mars influence can be heavier pharmaceuticals which may be as much of a problem as the lines they are treating.

Sun Saturn 1976:  By the mid-1970s, the now renamed Trump Organisation had branched into Manhattan skyscrapers.  Trump’s first big move,  in 1976,  was to develop the Grand Hyatt Hotel on the grounds of the by-then bankrupt Penn Central Railroad’s Commodore Hotel. Although the Trump Organisation did not have enough money to purchase the hotel,  Trump used his personal relationship with the Hyatt hotel chain and his father’s political clout (Fred Trump was a prominent member of Brooklyn’s Democratic Party) to negotiate an unusual arrangement with the government of New York City. Saturn in Ashlesha 9th House

Lord of 3rd & 4th houses for Scorpio ascendant.

Since 3rd house rules over our mentality these natives typically have a humble spiritual mentality, their efforts are usually in line with ethical norms. They can be very patient and withstand almost any conditions. They can be very tough, even cold-blooded. They might at times practice a kind of tough love. They will travel widely, live close to the land in some way, and be unmoved by hardship. They may be writers of philosophical ideas and philosophy might be like a hobby to them. Ashlesha can make them especially good at communications across cultures.

Parents may be educated blue collars types and there is likely to be a split between them. Step-parents the logical result and the native may not get along with them very well. Father may be a blue collar worker, labourer, or farmer. Mother may have been absent from parenting due to her own education needs. Foundational education might be really tough to complete and they might go into debt for their foundational education without ever receiving any diploma. They may be involved with land development, civil water and waste-water. They might live at their place of work or have housing provided. Housing is typically simple and of lower quality. They might find their comfort near water, near a sewer, or at the university; though it’s also likely they will change home seasonally. The whole world might be their home. They are typically excellent caretakers of the land.

Because this Saturn is in Mercury’s Nakshatra the aspect to 3rd house is especially potent for writing larger material, editing, and ensuring their communications are correct. They can be a little blunt or harsh in their communications. They take action to defend dharma and have no qualms about sacrificing themselves to do so. They can talk a lot, they often come to some point or some moral in the story. They might study grammar, languages. They value communication, books.

Mike H.: Saturn aspected by Venus. Moon in Gemini. I can speak of my own experience with Saturn in Ashlesha 9th house. This Saturn rules my 4th house so I’ve always been nomadic and my home has often been supplied by my employer, I’ve mostly lived near water. Home is often fairly rustic, but with Venus aspecting I feel quite fortunate about home, often in nature, or some old character suite. Location is often exquisite, just hard living. My higher education was delayed for work and my work involved trenching, piping and setting grade underground. 99% of my work from those days is buried; never to be seen again. My stick in those days would have been a seven foot steel crowbar, a five meter measuring rod, and perhaps the shovel. I’ve worked in the sewer, washed dishes, and done some fishing in my life; many dangerous jobs, underground and sometimes under the table. I grew up fishing; baiting hooks and baiting traps. This Saturn is 2nd from my Moon so my mothers family is a fairly solid working class family, much of what I learned in the forest comes through my elder brother who learned it from our mothers side of the family. My mother was also a bit older by the time she had me. Single mother, step fathers. Mother worked in Forensic Psychology.

I eventually went to university to study languages, communications, logic and rhetoric; topics much beloved by Mercury. I already had a solid grounding in mathematics, map (blue-print) reading and engineering from construction management. All of these different ways for calculating and analysing the world around us eventually culminated into Vedic Astrology. Then there’s the spiritual aspect of this placement in 9th house which has turned my beliefs very conservative and old fashioned. Belief in the powers of renunciation, sacrifice, and fortitude; cold comforts. I live mostly in Varanasi now which provides the wet filth of Saturn in Ashlesha while the 9th house gives me a spiritual or philosophical setting; it’s kinda like living in a big ashram with no rules on one hand, but very harsh social restrictions on the other hand. Moon, the ruler of my 9th house goes into the 8th house highlighting research and Tantra; while Mercury, the ruler of Ashlesha goes into Sagittarius highlighting my humanistic philosophical side. I have also studied several holistic healing methods. I grew up studying my mother psychology text books. All of which has a strong influence of Ashlesha. 

When Saturn Mahadasha started is when my teacher started telling me to teach. To take responsibility for the teachings I was already offering. A whole life of study because I never felt like I know enough came to this. They might like to work behind the scenes or even at night under eh cover of darkness; even for completing the mundane tasks of life. Relationships will be distant, possibly existing more in the natives imagination than in reality. Their significant unresolved relationship issues and inadequate ability to express their emotions can leak out as resentment and have a negative effect on relationships. These natives must learn to express their emotions. Unconventional ways such as screaming, pushing a boxing bag or art therapy might be effective way for them to express & release pent up emotions.

We might not that these Leo natives can be quite charming and attractive on the surface and on first impression; it will only be later that these negative emotional troubles might be seen since the whole point of this Saturn is to hide all their negative thoughts and traits.

In regard to workplace setting, much or their work and duties will be done behind the scenes far from the eyes of the public. This might suggest a foreign or isolated setting, night jobs, lab work, or it might just be that they work behind the scenes and don’t get or expect credit for their work. They might feel exploited in some way, working long hours without fruit or recognition can lead too similar resentment they might have with relationships or the opposite sex. And without getting any energy in return, they can easily burn out. They often don’t get much help with their work; not many people can partner with them for long so they often have to do all the work alone. They tend to avoid both conflict of 6th house and the resolution or relationships of 7th house. They will likely be cold and detached in their work and it might seem that all they do is work.    

Overseas service; for several this comes in the form of overseas military service; but they might take on other kinds of service roles. Influence from Jupiter can give them spiritual duties; influence from Venus will at least allow them to feel some appreciation for what they do.  There can also be an aspect of secrecy to their work for good reason such as business or diplomacy that demands a certain level of discretion.

This Saturn aspects the 2nd house, restricting both saving and expenses. Of course if they are not getting any fruit for their work or services than it makes sense that their savings will be somewhat pinched. Self-esteem (self-worth) might also be negatively affected. They tend to be minimalist, very practical values (keep in mind that Virgo is the sign in the 2nd house). This Saturn can also bring both physical and mental health problems that will not have a simple remedy, but part of that remedy will likely be to regulate their diet and perhaps they will also have to learn to take their medications more seriously and on time and not miss. This Saturn seems to put a veil of darkness or secrecy over all of these areas. Their beliefs might also be hidden, not talked about. With Saturn aspecting its debilitation sign in the 9th there are likely to be problems with the father and father figures. They are not usually very spiritual or religious and they might have a difficult time to understand their higher purpose or deeper meaning. This Saturn seems to get more difficult the further it advances in Cancer.

Saturn Punarvasu 12th House

Lord of 6th & 7th houses for Leo ascendant.

We might see a little more wisdom seeking in the isolation, or perhaps they will use the alone time as a retreat to recharge or restart their 6th house work or 7th house relationships. The setting it more expansive, open, enlightening. Punarvasu relates with seeds for the future, so although they might not see much fruit for their labour, there will likely come a time when the seeds sprout and perhaps future generations will get the benefits. Their travel and solitude is more likely to be related with Jupiter’s expansive knowledge and perhaps they find themselves toiling away in a foreign education setting or university.

Incarceration, exile, foreign wars, work environment is fully secured. Accused of collusion with a foreign entity. Things are a little more serious un Saturn rues Pushya, nourishment is restricted, perhaps they are held back by their early childhood experiences, some malnutrition might very well be involved, exploitation seems more likely, but they might also be trying to help or serve the marginalised or exploited classes. They typically have a heavy karmic burden they will have to pay in this life: exile, incarceration, lack of comfort or security. They usually have a difficult past that follows them wherever they go. Tapas, austerities, aghore. They will face humiliations and will have to work hard for redeption — no shortcuts. Pushya brings more structure to this placement, less freedom to do what they want; they do what they must.

This seems to be a pretty good position for writers. The Mercury influence seems to have them communicating their dreams, working out of a home office, studio, or workshop. Saturn in ashlesha tends to be a little more manipulative and controlling. They might have to tip-toe around their partner to avoid conflict. Perhaps they are tip-toeing simply because everyone else is asleep while they are up in teh attic writing. They can be quite strategic and diplomatic; but this might just be a way of avoiding open discussion about the problems or negotiating a compromise. Marital disputes get lost in the background and both parties resist breaking up; but they also resist facing the. Issues that are plaguing their relationships and ultimately their lives. This could lead to especially intense emotional problems. They tend to be sequestered for long periods of time. They get a lot of work done when they are alone and they are disciplined when they get into the office.
