What is the Nakshatra Project?

The Nakshatra project is a 8 year research project into the 27 Nakshatras. I am am currently in the just the 3rd year of research.

Like any research project it is progressing step by step. The hypothesis is laid out in the form of everything that is currently known about each nakshatra: the qualities, myths and concepts associated with each one. To see their effects in each house I have gathered up the the classical literature of each placement. This provides a somewhat multicultural perspective including mythology and wisdom from cultures around the world. This took me about 1.5 years to lay this foundation.

I then started with Rahu & Ketu putting together about 200 years of history about their transits through each nakshatra, while expanding the research into natal charts and dasha effects of famous people throughout history. We also tried to focus on the polarity of Rahu & Ketu which meant doing 56 chapters since one of them  changes nakshatra every two pada.

Only a very little bit of this research has managed to get posted on MikesSleepingDog.com , but you can see and example here.

I am now (in Oct. 2024) diving deep into Saturn’s passage through the nakshatra in a similar way. The history has ben laid out and I’ve begun the analysis of the transits. I’ve completely reorganised the nakshatra project for easier comparison between the nakshatras of each sign. The databank of celebrities is rapidly expanding and there are more definitive rectifications being made as we fill out the dasha events.

(By the time most of the Saturn articles reach the website, I will have already added a great deal of research. To find out how you can get a copy of the most recent version of the Nakshatra Project, contact me by e-mail.

Join us to go over the Saturn research beginning Jan. 4.

On June 26 we will move on to the Jupiter research. This will bring us to the end of the slow moving planets. The research for the faster moving planets and dasha periods will have been built up already and we will get carried away by their speedier energy. We will start to look more at conjunctions and aspects of the planets. At at some point around the end of next year we will start to turn our attention to the Astrology of commodities, Astrology of Nations & Corporate Astrology, using each of these topics to teach us more about the Nakshatras.

The whole time, we will be filling in more and more research on every planet, in every nakshatra, in every house. After several years. After about 4 or 5 more years of research and filling in the blanks, we will focus on filling in the blanks, finding any missing components, testing each hypothesis with data that’s been collected. Slowly slowly we will forn it all into 27 books on the nakshatras somewhere around 2032.

The nakshatra project is already much more research and detail then you will find any where. Many people call it the PhD on Nakshatras. After a complete restructuring of the nakshatra project I was able to bring it down to about 4000 pages; which will comprise 10 volumes for students, researchers and scholars of Vedic astrology. The transits histories will likely take up a couple more volumes.

Current progress on the Nakshatra Project

There is really no completing these 10 volumes because the research can be ongoing, however, after a few more years I will take these ten volumes and boil them down to 27 books for each nakshatra.

“The Astrologers Notebook” is laid out just waiting for more the Nakshatra research to complete sections on Health, relationships and career. This has all the basic rules or Vedic Astrology to guide beginners step by step. This is available for free on my home page.

“Psychological and Philosophical Remedies for the Planets” is also laid out, but only the lectures are available on YouTube & Spotify. This lecture series was put together specifically for phycologists & psychoanalysts.

“An Energy Healers Handbook” has also be used for teaching courses in Acupuncture & Energy Work. This follows more shamanic theories of the five elements and healing generally. This is an incredible resource for all alternative healers. Get the PDF for $30.

“The Nakshatra Project” needs your support. This is one of the most complete Vedic Astrology resources anywhere, and even incomplete it’s by far the best resource on the Nakshatras that you will find. Look up each planetary placement by nakshatra, all the classics and a great deal of deep insight into every specific placement, with thousands of celebrity charts to compare it to, as well as the transits histories of Saturn, Rahu & Ketu. Find the lecture series on Youtube. Those who purchase now, can get periodic updates for token donations.  This is basically a 2 year course in Vedic astrology and a resource you will use forever. $290

“Rahu & Ketu Historical Transits & Natal Chart Effects.” This lecture series is available on YouTube. The research is incorporated into the Nakshatra Project. But if you are interested in just the 200 year history of their transits through the Nakshatras; an invaluable resource for predicting their future transits and an excellent way to more deeply understand the effects of Rahu & Ketu and the nakshatras.  $30

“Mike’s Aarti: Mantras, Songs & Slokas.” This is my aarti book full of mantra, beautiful songs to the gods and slokas revering the gurus of Kashmiri Shaivism. This is available as a free download on my webpage.

Upcoming Courses on the Nakshatras

“Saturn Historical Transits & Natal Chart Effects.” I will be discussing my research in a series of lectures from Jan. 4 – Mar. 22, 2025. There is often a couple years lag before these lectures will find their way to YouTube. $240 for all 12 lectures, or $25 each. This includes a PDF of the Saturn Research

“Jupiter Historical Transits & Natal Chart Effects.”I will be discussing my research in a series of lectures from Jun. 26 – Sept. 4; 2025. There is often a couple years lag before these lectures will find their way to YouTube. $240 for all 12 lectures, or $25 each.

Where it’s Going

I expect that by the end of my Saturn mahadasha I will have a set of 12 volumes for scholars or Vedic astrology, 27  deeply researched gift books for the generally public, and a handful of books coming out of all of this. Some people have suggested that it would be best for me to start my own publishing house.

I offer research scholarships for students who want to help me with all of this. Donations to are greatly appreciated and can go a long way to helping me get this research to the astrological community. My goal is to raise the standard of Vedic Astrology; unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be a goal shared by the current Associations of Vedic Astrology who have begun handing out certificated to anyone who pays the fee. All my classes, lectures and writing reach for the highest standard of research and analysis.

And don’t miss Community Astrology, every full moon.
