He got into he London punk scene in 1975, started hanging out with a band and joined them in Feb. 1977 after their bass player quit. They released the highly controversial album than launched their brand and made Sid one of the most photographed figures in punk. Dec. 1, 1977 the bank signed with Virgin Records. January 1978 they completely fucked up their American tour, Johnny Rotten left the band and the Sex Pistols were finished by the time they started. Sid and Nancy moved to New York in mid-1978 and they both went deep into heroin. Oct 12, 1978 Nancy was found dead in the Chelsea Hotel from a stab wound in the stomach. He was quickly arrested and charged before being released on bail but his life is completely out of control. He died from a heroin overdose Feb. 2, 1979 (age 21).
His mother was an unstable bohemian influence on her son, they moved around constantly, she assiociated with all kinds of counter-culture characters; drugs and alcohol were part of daily 3existence. Her relationship with Sid was sid to be a mix of affection, dependency, and dysfunction. After Nancy Spungen’s death and Sid’s incarceration, Anne became heavily involved in his life again. Many researchers believe she ultimately supplied the heroin that killed him. The exact truth is debated, but she was present immediately before his fatal overdose. She died in 1996.
Sid barely knew his father. He was a guardsman in the British Army who rarely came around.
